    I've had many big bikes including some quite exotic ones but have a real affinity to the smaller bikes, so much so that I am about to buy one of these as a commuter bike.

    I have a 2015 duke 390 and had it since new. Was a full licence rider at the time but bought it as a commuter etc. On the great reviews. Boy were they right. No bike is perfect but what a Great funster as you said. I have had and still have a number of big bikes but i still hang onto the 390 because it is SO much of a laugh on the twisty back roads. Enjoy your time with the 390 flyer you will be sorry to give it back!

    Great review, I hope your following week's will be as enjoyable. I have had my 390 Duke (in white) since May, absolutely love it, no issues to report yet. Sounds great with the Akrapovic exhaust (DB Killer removed). I'm 6ft tall & find it comfortable, longest I've spent on it is 3hrs & was fine. Its got a good amount of power & geared very well for back roads & cruising at duel carriageway speeds. Safe riding 👍

    Following your June 2019 monthly MCN update, and the news of KTM bringing out a 390 Adventure, thought I'd review your review of this bike to get a sense of what that bike might be like. Some things I hope they improve:
    Fuel economy, flow of air around the motor and cooling system, progressive front springs (use the additional wheel travel to incorporate a stiffer section to the springs) and sorting out the ambient light sensor which switches between day and night mode. If I was the adventure bike's developer I'd increase the displacement of the motor to 450cc and reduce the compression ratio to provide the same power but increased torque, better fuel economy and heat management (and improved longevity), all natural developments from a Duke variant to an adventure variant they're probably trying to address without increasing the capacity anyway (in my opinion cheaper and easier to just increase the stroke of the motor).

    • @hurst_luke
      @hurst_luke 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juniorvanhoudt1519 Yes I do. It's a bike that is very easy to have fun on. Plenty of acceleration, well not like a sports bike but more torque'y if you know what I mean. It feels light and nimble which inspires confidence to push it.
      No major issues for me. Digital display gets a bit of condensation now and again but always clears. Running the engine in was irritating. 65mph max speed until it was done.

    As for commuting would be brilliant.
    Also, read a news item on the "5k club" - that's people who pay 5k or more per year for their train season ticket. So bike seems good value :-)
    I saw one in KTM Hemel and thought it was a bigger bike because it looks so mean, a scaled down Super Duke. Very good build quality & finish. BMW, Ducati and KTM seem to be at their own level above other manufacturers. Off to try a Super Duke...

    I'm really loving these smaller bike reviews. They're giving me loads of ideas - I'm about to move up from my first bike, a honda cb125f, but I still want to keep it pretty modest. 2 questions: 1. Could you do a video on how to vet a second hand bike when buying from a private seller? And 2. What do you think of the mid sized CBs?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Sam re 1. There's an idea (maybe one for the winter months!) and 2. I've not ridden the smaller Hondas (but would love too) bar my CRF of course. I love Honda reliability, I see no reason why the smaller CBs shouldn't be good.....

    Hi there, another great video as per! Got a bit of interesting one so I'm wondering if you could lend an expert eye! A2 is currently coming up and at the moment I'm stuck between the Duke and RC 390 bikes. I've been with a YZF for almost two years and the KTM would be the next sporty progression however I've ridden the RC 125 and the bars were wide (not very sporty) the fuel tank is small, the looks leave a lot to be desired especially in comparison to the Duke and the Duke has loads of cool little extras like the TFT display and the LED headlamp. Having ridden both, what are your thoughts on the better of the two? Is it better to go for the rougher (and more expensive) RC for a sporty machine or would the Duke be the better one to go for?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

    Love your videos on this! I'm still in doubt what bike to buy, but trying to pull the trigger this winter. My budget's around €5k but can't decide between a slightly used '12-'14 Kawasaki ER6N, '08 Aprilia Shiver 750 or brand new 390 (or a MT-07 or 690, but I don't like the looks of those and it'll go a little bit above budget).
    I've got a full license, but never owned a bike before. I'm 1.86m/85kg with long legs and will use the bike partly to commute. Will the 390 be too small? Will the difference in HP (72 on the ER6n and 44 on the 390) be missed within 2-3 years?
    On looks the Duke 390 has the slight upper hand to the ER6n, top speed doesn't interest me and both bikes are not made for a weekend touring but will do when needed.
    Any advice will be welcome (obviously I'm taking them for a test ride soon).

    @8:12 The Duke 690 weighs 148.5kg and the Duke 390 is 149kg according to KTM. I think the perceived flickability is down to the 390 and 125 small size and perhaps steering head angle.

    Hello
    In your opinion what are the pros and cons of the Duke 390 compared to the Triumph Street triple R ?
    Do you think (not looking at high-end speeds and price) that the two bikes do the same function with the degree of fun with safety and comfort or are there any big differences between them? The reason for my question is because I'm thinking of buying one.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +João Blanco Yes they have similar fun factor, the Street Triple is much quicker but heavier. Comes down to what you like most I guess...

      +PistolPete63 Yes, the fan is quite loud and has come on a few times - but it's nowhere near as bad as on the RC390 so not an issue for me (especially here in chilly old Blighty!)...may be a problem in Texas though!

      equivalent price in india is around 2800 GBP for a new bike, including a Zero depreciation insurance and road taxes so this is on road price it may vary a little say 200 GBP more or less from one state to other state of india.
      Dual channel ABS and disc brakes front and back and TFT display at this price point simply Cant beat the Bajaj & KTM forte in india here literally every bike manufacturer is crying and moaning against them.

    Got one of these today. You're right, the riding position does feel strange at first - but that's because I was used to sitting up tight to the tank. I found that if I shifted my bum back along the seat, it felt a lot more natural.

  • @uncopino

    Paid for it last Friday... waiting for the plate. Might be ready tomorrow. I'm 31 and it's my first bike, I only had scooters before but I rode a KTM SMC R for a week, loved it and hated it at the same time: super fun but too high for me(I was on my toes and I wouldn't feel comfortable taking my girlfriend with me), painful seat, jumpy engine, no abs(it was pre 2012). When I heard this has a kind of supermoto riding position but lower and more comfortable seat, less power thus less insurance, smoother fueling, abs, anti hopping clutch... I was like "shut up and take my money"

      TheMissendenFlyer had it for 4 months now and I love it so much. I live in Rome and the traffic is a nightmare of still cars and scooters filtering wildly, roads are a disaster of bumpy cobblestones, cracks in the pavement, tree roots, tram rails... and I cannot wait to ride it to work in the morning. I learned to ride standing on the shitty roads so it made me thirsty for an adventure machine, although I don’t want to sell this! It’s one of the best thing ever happened to me and THANK YOU FLYER! Thanks MF, a good review and its great that you can have it for a few weeks. I'm 6'3" and have had a sit on it. I was sceptical, but the way they tuck your legs under you and then scallop the tank means long femurs are given a fair bit of room and I was surprised to find I could fit on it ok. I have had a look at the others you mentioned, MT03 and BMW 310, but this bike is just head and shoulders above the others in terms of value for money. The BMW's power output in particular was very disappointing.
    On paper, this is the most powerful of the sub 400 cc bikes. I will be interested to see if that's how it feels in day to day driving. Is the power in the right place so commuting and overtaking doesn't require you to rev so high your fillings melt from the harmonic vibes?
    I await your verdict with bated breath.

      I've been riding this for a few weeks already (filmed this a while back) and have to say I've been impressed - no significant vibes and comfortable - and yes the power is exactly where you'd want it for day to day riding...so far so good!

      The only serious competition to this in Singapore is the Honda 400x or CB 400 super revo. The trouble is they weigh 193kg and are like tanks. Too much weight for 44hp. Probably last for ever, but they are very unexciting.

    I am surprised KTM have not made an adventure bike from the 390 base, something like the old 640 with a bit of fairing and bigger tank.
    21-18 wheel combo and 250 mm suspension travel would be a very practical go anywhere bike, with around 50hp and 140kg dry weight.
    690 adventure R is just a little to much and not enough in some regards.
