Howdy folks... let me start this weeks AutoEdits video by saying this is NOT a sponsored ad!!! I give you the straight story on how I decided to try the Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant and fuel injection cleaner and then stuck with it for over six months now and have noticed some unique effects on both my 1995 Chevy Tahoe and the 2013 Jeep Wrangler JKU Rubicon.
Here are the chapters for this video if you want to skip right to the math on how much money you can save using this stuff:
00:00 intro and how I decided to try the Lucas to begin with
01:42 Effects on the Tahoe: improved idle and performance
05:27 Jeep Improvements: Death Valley trip overall mileage increase
06:55 Getting gas at current prices and using the bottle
    08:06 Quick drive and feel
09:23 Real world round trip mileage demonstration at 18MPG
12:10 HOW TO GET THE LUCAS FOR $1.23 per bottle HUGE SAVINGS
14:34 Showing exactly how much I save per tank... and right now that is $10.33!
There are so many variables involved with fuel mileage on all of the different vehicles and types of driving so I encourage you to run your own test but wanted to share what I found to try and help my fellow drivers out there save a bit of money... ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW WITH PRICES SO HIGH!
Thanks so much for watching and please make sure you are subscribed to the ‪@AutoEdits‬ channel and visit me over at / autoedits_jason

Jason the amount of time you spent on this project is amazing . We greatly appreciate it . I can’t believe I never thought of doing that with the bigger gallon! I’ve been paying it by bottle I’m definitely going to snag me this from your Amazon cart since you put the work into this research. I’ve always sworn by this and have done it once every 1000 miles but now with that little trick of the bigger bottle and refill I’ll do it every fill up.

Real world testing.... thanks for sharing! I use it in my Mazda6 Turbo and it helps a lot with the pee water 91 octane we get in california! Boosts octane, better throttle response and the idle is much smoother. The car pulls noticably harder with it in the tank!! Its a direct injection car so I wanna keep it clean too and this has been helping a ton! I can for sure tell when I dont use it so I get the gallon and use it every fill up...

Now try their oil stabilizer on your next oil change. For my 454 I sub 2 quarts out of the 7 quarts required. Smoother starts, smoother idle. Lucas really does work.

The only additives I swear by are MARVELOUS MYSTERY OIL, LUCAS OIL UPPER CYLINDER LUBRICANT & INJECTOR CLEANER, BERRYMAN’S B-12 CHEMTOOL, and SEAFOAM! I have seen these products actually work well with new and older/ high mileage vehicles. As well as small 2&4 stoke engines.

Yes, I'm a believer too! I have a 2004 Mercury Marauder with the 4.6 4 valve cobra motor in her, I was experiencing hesitation under normal acceleration, and full throttle, I added this today, and the hesitation is all but gone. And now the idle is smooth as butter! Good stuff!

I haven’t done a fuel mileage calcs comparison yet but I did when switching from stock 30” tires to 33” mud tires to 32” all terrain tires back to 33” MTs and that was interesting.

I ran a bottle in my 2011 Rubicon with the 3.8 on 37's and 5:13's. I run a Ripp tune, coil, wires, NKG plugs and long tube headers, which means using super unleaded. After a full tank with the additive on the highway for my test, I gained about 2.75mpg and noticed a slight increase in power, mostly off the line and at lower rpm's. I went from 15mpg to 17.75mpg (highway). The Jeep is still a pig on hills on the highway, but I can maintain 70-75 mph easily without dropping out of overdrive. Also, you can find the large gallon of the Lucas fuel additive at O'Reiley's auto stores if you have them in your state. I paid $32.50 for the jug, and $6.50 for the little bottle. I'll definitely use it on longer highway trips, but for around town I'm not sure it makes too much of a mpg difference with all the stopping and starting I do where I live. However, the power is nice even if slight. Thanks Jason!

@@AutoEdits so Jason, I went and brought 2 bottles like you said, and since my strong point isn’t waiting, I put one bottle in on a 7/8 full tank. I didn’t want to put this in a new tank just incase I got an above average tank. I can’t believe what this 1 bottle did for the idle of the Jeep! Insane results!! A little back story on this 07 Hemi Jeep Grand Cherokee. I brought the GC brand new in Dec. of 2006, I’ve changed the oil every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1, Amsoil in the diffs and TC, PowerStop Brakes (again your idea) Bilstein on all four corners installed by me as well as the brakes!! To say I know this vehicle like the back of my hand is an understatement and to poor this little bottle in and get a great idle to become smoother is just unreal. My mpg in this first tank so far is up from 14.8 to 15.1. Not great, but I’ll take it as a bonus to the idle quality! The Jeep has 102,000 miles on her and she drives like new. I can say that running 87 now (only ran 89 till fuel prices went nuts) I can’t tell the difference climbing hills like you said! Thank you Jason! I’ve always loved your content wether it was Marge, or the Ram, or the Jeep!!

I've been using that for decades! I buy it by the gallon. I used to buy the gallon size at the NHRA drags where the manufacturer would have smoking hot deals on it. I've never had to have fuel injectors removed and cleaned in any of my vehicles. I even used it in my boat's injected outboard motor.
I do save the little bottle but I only use 4 ounces per tank.

Not that there's any question whether or not this works (saving money at the pump, as well as getting a bit more performance out of your rig... I mean, J hasn't failed me yet...), but this actually works! I got the gallon and some smaller containers to refill. I'm getting an about 1.5 mpg gains (hwy driving) here in Houston! Normal driving, getting an extra 1 MPG. Every bit counts. After seeing/feeling the results (been a few weeks now), I'm starting to add this stuff to our other cars. Super handy, super easy, KISS mod here. :) Thanks again, J!

My 1997 4Runner loves this stuff! I’ve read it adds certain polymers back into the fuel that were removed in the 80’s (probably for catalytic converters). I don’t notice a huge power increase, but the engine seems to run smoother, and does get better mileage. If it keeps the injector spray pattern consistent, the engine will run as intended, and the polymers help the fuel burn in a controlled manner. Great stuff!

I really enjoyed your video, you did an outstanding job! It would appear you're a Lucas expert so I'm hoping you can answer a couple of questions. First, I'm confused by the math. Like you, I thought it would be a good idea to save and refill the 5.25oz bottle, then purchase it by the quart or gallon thereafter. The label says the 5.25oz bottle treats up to 25 gallons of gas. That would mean a quart should treat 152 gallons and your 1-gallon jug should treat 609 gallons of fuel, but those containers say 100 and 400 gallons respectively. If that's true, it would imply that the stuff in the larger containers is not as concentrated if I have to use more of it, i.e., roughly 7.5oz per 25 gallons vs. 5.25. So that's my first question, is it different stuff? I can't just refill the small bottles if it's a different ratio, right?
My second question has to do with the statement on the 5.25oz bottle: "ELIMINATES NEED FOR HIGHER OCTANE FUEL". Does this really mean what it says? My car requires premium unleaded (per the manufacturer). If I use regular unleaded, the engine will absolutely knock. However, I tried regular unleaded + Lucas and the car runs perfectly smooth - and I do mean perfect. So is the absence of knocking enough? Can I get away with saving at least $1/gallon on regular gas and just add Lucas? Oddly, I noticed they only make this claim on the small bottle, not the quart or gallon size, so again, I'm left wondering whether it's the same stuff in the larger container?

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

From my understanding, it is the same substance in all different size bottles. After doing more research, I have discovered that this product works by creating a clean, dense, oil type additive to the fuel chamber that essentially raises the compression a bit and offers some detergent with upper cylinder lubrication. About how much per tank, I just don't pay attention to the accurate ratio and just settle for one of the small bottles per tank and have been satisfied with the results. I'm back on to buying the gallon jugs and using a small bottle every tank.

i do the same thing i keep the bottles and just refill them with the bigger bottle. I have a 2011 camaro and i would get p420 codes. I took it to a mechanic and he wanted to charge me 4000 to change the catalytic converter and fuel pump. I took it to another mechanic and he checked it out and didint find anything wrong with the car and told me to use better quality of gas and use lucas every time i fill up. The code went away and passed smog with no problem. I stopped using lucas after i passed smog and the code started to pop up again. Im starting to use lucas again because i feel it works.
