Mine did the same thing. This is what I did.
    1. Rebuild carb and clean it
    2. Replace spark plugs
    3. Make sure valves are at the right distance 0.005 inch intake 0.009 inch exhaust
    4. Make sure air filter and everything is put together to make sure you can adjust the carbs correctly. My air fuel screw is 2 turns out.
    5. If this doesn’t work change the gas and make sure it’s getting a good supply of gas from the tank.

Backfire solved! I switched carb slides, all that was needed! This was recommended by other commentor. Yes after cleaning carb I just put it back together thinking they were the same-wrong. The mechanical wear conforms a proper fit & function. I followed up w/ a sync of throttles. It's back to running well!

I fixed mine!!!!! Holy crap it took a LONG time.
First, dont rely on what you hear when its taken apart. To be accurate it MUST be fully assembled. Then....
Rebuild the carbs with a quality kit and put a dynojet stage 1 kit on it. MAKE SURE you synchronize the carbs afterwards. Also, make sure there is good airflow through the muffler and that the pilot screws are set correctly. I beleive 2.5 turns out is the factory setting, but the dynojet kit says 2.
Mine is an 05 with a completely rebuilt/replaced fuel system. I did all that work to narrow down the problem EVERYONE has with these motors.
I first took the entire system apart, cleaned out the tank and tore both carbs apart. Replaced ALL the tank parts, pump and hoses as mine were totally rusted away. Rebuilt both carbs after a VERY thorough cleaning, replaced all the rubber "boots" connecting the carbs to the airbox AND motor. Verified valve clearances twice and dissected the muffler to make sure it wasnt plugged. Also changed the spark plugs and replaced the air filter and engine oil. None of that fixed my original sputter/backfire issue until I put the jet kit on. That instantly fixed the problem.

ignition timing too early? valve clearance of intake valves set properly?

  • @ranstrickjc

Get the air box back on with air filter so it gives accurate mixture of air and fuel. I jetted mine (search for my videos). You have to make sure you have your air/fuel ratio screw set right, and then sync the carburators. If it's popping it's running lean.

Inspect valve lash. Most likely tight intake valves

Everyone always post vids thinking people can help. These bikes have a lot of parts that can go wrong. It's just a process of elimination. Check fuel delivery to carbs, check carbs, valves, timing i.e. stretched timing chains or bad crankshaft positioning sensor. It could also just boil down to having a bad battery. There is so much that can go wrong. You need to be mechanically inclined to own one of these bikes. Too many people say brutes are junk, but they just suck at working on the four wheeler. These bikes run like a scalded dog whenever they are dialed in.

RESET BELT LIGHT. Brute will go into limp mode when a certain Km or Hour is reached so you perform maintence on the belt.

mine done this after sitting up for the winter... its a v-twin 650 with jetted carbs, a dynojet power commander, and a FMF exhaust system. if you put the choke about half way closed it will pick up and run like it's supposed to..but with the choke off, it has no power and it pops back thru the carbs. it makes no difference with the breather on or off

hi there I was working on one for a friend and had the same problem so I called a dealer and the air box needs to be completely together because it's getting to much air or the filter is dirt or to much oil on the filter or your belt light is on

***** Thanks a million, had a miss and then it turned into a back fire, so changed plugs, was going to jet the carbs, too much going on there, so just went with the plugs. Fired it up without the air box, it was worse. I put it all back together, now purrs like it should, like you said, getting to much air, Thanks again !!!!!!!!

I would say your belt light is on, and the computer is limiting the spark which causes backfires because of the fuel ending up burning in the exhaust.

running too lean, rejet with jet sizes 5 numbers bigger, ex if the jet is 145 get a 150 .do both carbs , the rear has a bigger jet than the front, then adjust valves 004 intake 008 exhaust and rock on. problem solved

kytnmtn4whlin running to lean???? wat makes the flame fuel!! carbs are fine. sad spark plug or sad coil will 100% cause this

    • @virginiejasmin434
      @virginiejasmin434 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes.it's runing too lean...When the flames goes to the intake or air filter, that means the ratio air-fuel is too poor...
