    Just so you all know. That is MY truck that is being pulled out of the water. Thank you to everyone that pointed out that YES, we are from New Jersey and NO we aren’t all bad drivers. The mystery here…. Where’s the trailer??? Do you see that beautiful 30foot Larson boat in the background, yes the one with the trailer attached…. That’s our boat with the trailer. We were leaving the marina when our trailer came off the hitch and nearly crashed and injured other boaters. My husband put the truck in park (4 wheel drive was on)and ran out to try and help when the truck started to slide back. What happened to us was horrible but thankfully no one was injured. We did nothing wrong. Thank you to Miami Dade police and all of the GOOD citizens that helped us out in our moment of despair. It isn’t funny when something like this happens to YOU and people are cracking jokes and being insensitive. I don’t care for any of your ridiculous and hurtful comments at the end of the day we’re just happy no one was injured. And just FYI we are paying out of pocket for everything there is no insurance scam or anything here. Reserve your judgments for yourself and remember to be kind to others.

      Trucks go into the water every few months at this ramp. I wonder how often the city cleans the ramp algae? • @romancamarena
      @romancamarena 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Glad to hear you guys are ok! I alway worry about something like that happening when I launch my boat at Black Point … have you consider that maybe when your husband saw the trailer coming off the hitch, maybe he got our too quickly and forgot the put it in parking ? Sometimes when we are in a rush we forget things…. Without the weight of the trailer is very unlikely that the car would slip like that specially when you were already coming out of the water. Stay safe and hope you a replacement truck soon! 👍🏻

      People forget about the tide change.
      When low tide you have 3 to 4 feet of boat ramp that is slippery and when you pull down to get your boat it's to late. Put on you parking brake to hook up the boat and the truck is slowly moving and by the time you see it, it's in the water.

    You should always use a semi wrecker for pulling out a submerged vehicle. Because of the weight and force of the water in and around the vehicle. The smaller trucks don't have the winch capacity, or the weight to counterbalance the load. You often have other wreckers, or crew to help with rigging. I've worked several of these type of incidents myself when I drove tow truck. You always want to hook up to the frame

      The bigger the better, but you need to go as slow as the power you have available; 2 years ago in Leonardo,NJ i pulled out a Ford f150 with my 1994 Isuzu Trooper,4WD and low gears, done with the stretch (vehicle recovery ) rope,and 6 or 7 guys weighting it down; without the special stretch rope i would risk frying the clutch, (which i would never do,i repair cars for a living,not destroy them); what you do is put the rope under the most tension you can,hit the brakes and wait; then repeat; it slowly moves up the ramp; the puling power of a 4000 lbs 4WD with low gears,locking diffs and good tires in the dry is awesome; it's failing mode is all 4 wheels rotating in place.

    Better to have sent the biggie. Once a vehicle has been immersed it has so much extra water weight that if not careful you can put your truck at risk. With a 1 ton tow truck when the vehicle starts to come out, it is best to go very slowly to allow water to drain. I've seen tow cables snap with that extra weight as well as seeing tow vehicles start to loose traction when overloaded. My boss would have been pissed if the extra vehicles took standby time like that. There were occasions that have a training session for one driver was okd. Two dead time vehicles never would pass.
    Two trucks??? These guys have allot to learn. Put a snatch block off the right rear corner, pull over, then pull straight up. This company is a rip off using and I'm sure charging for two vehicles. We would charge extra for winching recovery and fee for water hookup. Water can reduce the life of cables and hooking equipment.

      Up here they won't get their rollbacks near the ramp. They'll use them sometimes if they can reach from some 30-60ft away from the ramp, but they won't risk their trucks sliding down the ramp too.
      If the vehicle is in too far or the pavement is slopped towards the water they send a bigger wrecker to pull it out.
      My guess is just the weight of the pull and weight of the wrecker. A half ton pickup truck empty weighs 4-5k. Add 300 gallons of water between the bed and cab and you can add another 2.4k to the total weight. I've seen rollbacks skid even on dry pavement pulling pickups out of the water and up the ramp because there is no weight on the back tires of the rollbacks and the parking brake doesn't affect the front tires.
