    The second time I launched my boat was at Black Point on a Columbus Day weekend. I get out of my truck, walk to the trailer, and WHAP! Fell on my ass. Of course, I shoot right up and look back at the folks sitting on the grass just to east of the docks in their lawn chairs with coolers at their side. Not half a minute later, as I proceed to launch, I hear a commotion behind me as the guys in the next slip try to push back their truck as it slips into the drink. I feel like they did it just to easy my embarrassment. It worked. Thank guys!

    Somewhere below the low water line on the boat ramp is a lip. When they pulled the trunk up, judging by the water movement, the wheel caught on that lip. This resulted in damage to the right front wheel and suspension. Since it was fully submerged, insurance will total it out.

    Never back up past the point of no return on a boat ramp, especially if your truck lacks 4x4, which is often the case with pickup trucks in FL. @8:50 you can see the driver's side front tire turning, so I don't think the transmission was in 4wd. Not being in 4wd is how the truck got into the water, but I'm not sure how the right front wheel got destroyed like that. It's possible it caught on a piling on the way into the water, but it's more likely that it was hung up on something and the tow truck caused the damage.

    He might have forgotten to unhook the chain from the trailer up front as to why the trailer was under the boat at the start. He must have started the boat and put it in reverse thinking he was getting off the trailer, but instead dragged the truck off the ramp and floated to the corner where you first saw him.

      It's why I always float the boat away from the trailer before I pull out. My truck is lifted and 4x4 so I don't mind getting it way in there to let it float off. Additionally I got a trailer that is for a larger boat and modified it for mine because the larger trailer has a longer tongue so I can put it much farther in before my back tires even get close.

    the chain was put around the wheel suspension, the vehicle weight and water plus water resistance is much heavier than the suspension can withstand, so everything is broken out, normally are both sides to use, but the truck was so or so totaled

    The slime on the ramp drags the trucks down despite having the e brake on, unless you are in 4 wheel drive and it’s in park. It happens all the time. The slime is like ice. I think the initial winch pull was attached to the passenger wheel and it bent the tie rod.

    • @mscientist1

    I've seen this a lot. Even if you apply the parking brake, it doesn't always work that great on all trucks facing uphill. When I back my boat in, I put it in park,, apply the e brake hoping it'll help some but then I have a 2 ft. pipe I place between the driver seat and make it press the brake pedal with the pwr seat.

    Always, always, always bring 2 good wheel chocks to the boat ramp and use them behind your rear axle wheels to avoid drowning your vehicle and getting hit with a huge recover/tow bill.
    PS: Trailers with rollers and an electric winch is 100 times better than float-on bunk trailers.

    • @caseymoto
      @caseymoto ปีที่แล้ว

      so if you had wheel chocks, you would place them behind the rear wheels when truck is backed up, aren't the rear wheels somewhat submerged though? or use chocks on front wheels?... and what makes the electric winch/rollers a better option? thanks
