I grew up in Zimbabwe and this game was popular in the 90s.I`d get into trouble after getting home late because of this game.so many memories, thank you for uploading.
This is a very difficult game. It was very popular in the game center. I remember when I was 7 years old, I stood watching someone pass customs with only one coin. It's a hero in my heart.
@@nehemiahpouncey3607 He is referring to someone he used to watch play this game when he was a little kid, there's no way that guy was cheating, on the other hand the video uploader definitely is though.

This game was fuckin EPIC!! I remember going to Mr. Perkins store in my old neighborhood to play Galaga and it wasn't there. P.O.W. was replaced with it. I stared at it a while before dropping quarters in it. Long story short, I stayed there until a beat it and went back everyday during the summer to play it!
Wow!! I'm 47 use to play this back in the 80" wasted multiple quarters and never saw the ending lol!! Brought so much good memories!!, thanks for posting it.
Played this like crazy in Spaceport at the Burlington center mall in Burlington New Jersey as a kid in the early 90s. The Golden age of video games and beat them ups for sure 🤘
this game fucking ruled honestly probably one of the earliest if not the earliest version of picking up ur enemy’s weapons which as we now see is hugely used
What memories !! How many hours used and how many coins !!! .. Thank you for uploading the video! It is one of my favorite arcades, fond memories !! 🙏 .. Greetings to all generation X who have played this game in the arcades🙋♂️
Fun fact: this arcade machine uses audio hardware very similar to the original Soundblaster, with the same OPL2 chip. The PCM part is likely different, but likely functionally similar. And yet the music sounds much better than what most DOS games using the Soundblaster had.
@@runitback5066 I work in a nursing home lol. This gives me the ideas. Residents are often told to go back in their room if they venture out into the hallways. There are four floors. 4th floor is the dementia floor. Our two pow hero’s will begin on that floor. One has a blue diaper on and the other has a red. The game begins with them as roommates, they struggle to get off their wheelchairs. They then open the door and go out into the hallways. Nurses and cna’s start to approach them to get them back in their room until lunch time. The pows then fight to get out the building so they can spend their retirement days on an island having hot 18 year olds to wipe their asses as they drink beer and smoke weed in the sun. 4 boards. Each level gets more difficult as it goes. The main bad guy will be the owner of the building. He will be hard as fck to beat.
I loved these beat em up games growing up.This and the Punisher game where kind of similar play styles. You would fight but along the way you could pick up Guns and knives.
I surely remember this game. I haven't played it in over 30 years, not since I was a kid back in Brooklyn. Now I can play it on my laptop. I didn't realize that I already had this game along with the other MAME gaming roms that I own. I totally forgot about this game. Glad that I remember it now. I loved playing it after school when I was a kid. This brings back many memories.
AWESOME beat em up. I was like 12 when this came out. But...when i played Commando, i grew a beard. When i found Double Dragon, i gained 8 pounds of muscle. But this game...grew my member into a man. Overnight.
Finished this game 3 or 4 times with one coin was my favorite game after school! I remembered was only allowed to play if no one was there on a slow day at the arcade 😊
This game gets a hard time, but I really like it. It's like Double Dragon in that you have an OP move that you can spam constantly throughout. I used to play it in Carey's Amusements in Buncranna Co Donegal in Ireland back in the day.
Street Smart was also made by SNK, but it's from 1989, while P.O.W. is from 1988. It's Street Smart that's using the sounds from P.O.W. not the other way around.
K so…I grew up with this game. My aunt had it on one of the classic arcade style boxes, idk what they’re called. But she owned a copy of this game. I played it with my cousin since I was 5. I haven’t been able to play it for a long while though….I wish I could one more time with him.
The game runs on the same hardware as "Street Smart" and "Ikari III - The Rescue". Sound effects are even the same. It would make sense if the guys in this game are actually the Ikari Warriors; Ralf Jones and Clark Still. I've always had this theory that it's actually them, even though SNK has never confirmed it. something i always wondered about this game, do the bad guys just not use guns for some reason???? i guess they want to give you more of an even chance :D
well i watch from the begin until the end. i remember ofcourse this game! but was difficult. but your playing was very solid. i mean back in the years. i spend i lot of coins just to move i little bit further. but you finish it with one life. and the enemys barely hit you. i dont know if the dif was!!! my grand mother can play it.
After decades I finally see the stage beyond stage 1!
Agreed, I've only played the NES version of this game. So it's nice to see where the differences lie.
Street Smart SNK 1989

We had this game at the local 7-11 in my neighborhood when I was a kid. I played the sh*t out of this game and it munched many quarters!
The main characters would be quite old now, they should do the sequel. Pensioners Of War, the p.o.w care home year's. 😂

Double Dragon meets the army. Cool idea.

But y'all ain't! When the bad guys die sound effects are in Street Smart also. P.O.W. main characters are in KOF!

Run out of coins 🤣
They allowed themselves to be captured, so it is easier to enter the POW camp
Wow everything is one-hit knockdown. No strings or combos at all gives the game a strange feel.
They're Ralf and Clark from "Ikari Warriors". Who's with me?
This was a difficult game, it makes me wonder why they bother putting effort into later levels that only a small % would ever reach
