Epic guide! A few more things could be added like hover mode, moving power to front shields and turning off systems to overcharge the mining laser. There's also an ideal power bracket when scanning a rock. Wish I had found this tutorial a lot earlier, subscribed 😁

I JUST rented a prospector and looked for a tutorial. Let me put it this way, if I was really in the Verse, and putting my life on the line for some rocks, and wanted to learn under someone, you're exactly the person I'd go to.

Spent ages getting ready for a Missing Persons mission and do a bit of mining thanks to this vid only to get stuck in the mine. Not lost, janky coding stuck. I've tried three of these damn missions out of the six available and got stuck all three times! Enjoying this game is a nightmare!!!!

hi ... got a quick tip I discovered.
You're right ... those money rocks have a propensity for hiding under worthless rocks sometimes. In your video, you mentioned rooting the rocks out of the way with the mining head. I think I have an easier way.
Do you know what happens when you fracture a purple rock? When it reaches 100% ... it vaporizes and disappears.
Just set your laser throttle to 0% and fire the laser up. The first thing you'll notice is the green (always mine in the green) and red zones are not shown on the meter, but they are still there. Slowly increase the throttle and the meter will be white as to starts on the left and grows to the right. Once it hits the green zone it will turn green. Stay out of the red and when you reach 100%, it'll just go puff and disappear.
Just keep vaping those worthless or low value purple rocks out of the way until you get down to what you're looking for.
Discovered in 3.9 and still works in 3.10. Only tried in the Prospector with the Helix mining head (size 1 ... thanks for saving me 108K aUEC)

I am not sure if others know this the red lining can also be useful if you wish to separate the rocks a little, basically i use it to spread the rocks out a little, just a touch of redline causes the rocks to blow apart giving access to all the rocks so no awkward strafing around the rock to find the rocks that shattered on the far side. Too much redline however and you are picking rocks out from between your teeth.
I'm on day 3 of playing this game and this video is really really helpful. thanks for making the video!

Since your video was just about mining, I should mention that one of the best ships for hand mining is the Cutlass Red. It's scanner picks up minables and has a longer range than the Prospector.
You can't analyze rocks and the only ones you can get are hand minables, but you can still make decent money. Daymar seems to only have hadenite as it's hand minables and I've found clusters of up to 12 rocks on the surface with my Cutlass red but clusters of 2 to 4 are more common.
The med beds are also handy since rocks sometimes explode even if you kept them in the green the entire time. It has a cargo grid so you can generate crates, but that can be risky given the possibility of 30k's

I've just started hand mining in caves. Slowly increasing my AUEC and looking at renting a Prospector. This video is really helpful, learned a few things even for use with my hand mining.

Great tutorial. One thing I always like to do is moving the ship forward and back to adjust the mining input, I find it easier to control than the laser throttle. Wasn't aware that each Rucksack torso had their own storage, so you can basically buy 2 or 3 and don't have to haul the crates from your ship to the station? That's handy.

Haven't had issues with asteroid mining, they may have fixed it. Nice tip for the rucksack. Daymar we get blown up trying to mine there, kind of risky. Helix 2's make unstable rocks much better, and the affects seem to stack when you're using multiple lasers, so you can have someone else put another laser on a rock at low power to make the rock easier to mine.
My firts mining try was smooth as hell,cos this tutorial! i selectively found good chunks of agricium and in my first trip to olisar it sells to like 54000 and it was a 16 mining run

A lot of hard learned lessons in this one. Been mining for awhile, and I don't think you missed any tips for new miners. Only thing I'd reinforce is a point that should be obvious (and you touched on with the Overcharge meter), take your time and pay attention to the rock you're working, alt-tabbing out/looking away has killed more than 1 miner that was working on that "one last rock"

On the prospector you need to replace the power plant as well. The Lotus is (IMHO) the best choice. Otherwise you will burn out you power plant and be dead in the water.
Yes, you can try and watch the temperature to keep from doing that, but the screens are bugged and don't work half the time, and often scroll out of sight when they DO work.
(Yes, I've burned out the power plant more than once, especially with the original laser head).
Gonna give mining a try tomorrow. Getting tired of being trolled by people ramming my ship when I try and trade to make enough credits to get started in this game.

Good mining video, and good to hear about dumping inerts. If you are limited on time, don't feel bad grabbing some lower tier minerals since any credits coming in is better than none, especially if you enjoy mining. I also like to max my front shields by hitting key 8(key 5 rebalances shields), which can help in case of an overcharge.

Great Video...Like your style! One tip to add if you do another one, if you fly the Mole or the Prospector in VTOL mode while you are mining it helps your hydrogen fuel efficiency A LOT! This helps you be able to stay in the search longer.

dig, I believe you can upgrade the rented prospector by swapping out the heads in the "My hangar" module and then logging back in. I'm gonna try replicating it this week when i farm up some cash

Good cover of the details. However like most people, you didn't cover the importance of resistance and instability of deposits.
There are techniques you can do manually to stabilize the energy input into your ore. I'm sure you've noticed how highly unstable rocks are really 'jumpy' when you try to charge them. The right technique can cut mining time in half or even a quarter. Though I'm not going to straight up tell you. Try some stuff out, most of the techniques are easy to figure out.
Like any job time is money. The faster you crack the deposits, the faster you can move on to the next one.

The helix paid for itself in about and hour. And you DO NEED THE HELIX. With the normal mining head I was pulling in about 12-15k a load and with the helix easily 50-75k
You can put a box full of handminables on the floor of the Prospector and later sell it by using a trade terminal. The terminal will not show the box(es) as taking SCU-space, but selecting your Prospector (or any other ship that has a cargo grid, even if the box is not placed on it) will give you the option to sell the handminables. I saw that on another video but do not remember which one. I checked this myself and it works. In that same video it is said that you also can put the box on the counter in the admin office. Checked that too... the box simply disappeared. Forgot to check my credits before so I'm not sure if I was given some credits for the materials but I doubt it.
Read ur comment & tried it a couple times, but, didn't seem to work. Is there a special trick to it?
@@DigThat32 Hmm, now that you mention it: In the video it was said that after you dropped the box with the minables on the floor of your ship, you need to pick it up again and PUT (not drop) it on the floor. That action seems to register it.
