Wish I had seen this before last weekend. Had a devil of a time trying to figure out how to work the Truck Stop pumps. Oh yes, the gloves would have come in handy! Thanks for the great content. Now I know!!
Thanks for the tip. Most of the Fire Apparatus' that I drove had left side tank fill except for a couple & then we had a couple that you could fill both tanks from either side! We had a nine truck department that covered about 500 SqMi. of mostly farmland, but we also had some Urban interface stuff to protect in town too!
Mike that’s great info I didn’t know there was a difference between tractor diesel and refer on the tax thanks for the video very interesting be safe traveling 👍👍
Very helpful. I have never understood why they don’t allow the option of just using a credit card. My wife always goes in and puts up to a $100 hold on the credit card. We are fueling F350. i guess now it will need to be $150. I really hate putting an amount on the card before fueling. Or they just hold your credit card so she just has to stand there while I fuel. Still easier than trying to get in to regular pumps. I have heard you can get a discount with Good Sams. I need to check on that. Additionally, I know you guys no longer have the Airstream. But Mike has the best backing up the trailer video. Maybe borrow a truck and trailer and update that video. That would be great.
If you get good Sam card, you can get there pilot flying j card to receive a discount. (8 cents per gallon iirc) we have both and use the good Sam card if there isn't a TSD approved truck stop nearby.
Thanks for a very informative video. We aren’t diesel yet, but might be in the near future. Possibly a dump question, but do the truck stop diesel pumps shutoff when the tank is full like a conventional gasoline pump or do you have to pay close attention and stop fueling manually?
I didn't notice, is there a DEF pump on the passenger's side too? Another question, does Mike notice any difference between pump DEF and DEF in the jug? Keep the good stuff coming guys.
I've never seen a DEF pump on the passenger side (semi trucks DEF tanks are all on the driver's side). As is ours but some pickups could be on the opposite side of the pump. The only difference I've noticed between the pump and the jug, is the jug costs more haha
This is completely different than the prompt I get at the pump. I've never been able to get my card to work. It always asks me for driver number and then mileage and then tells me to see the cashier. Any suggestions?
It's a great savings! The other nozzle we showed is for DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) and it would go into that tank wherever it may be on your rig. Ours and semis have the def tank on the driver's side behind the fuel tank usually, that that can vary depending on the vehicle manufacturer.
@@WanderingWagners . Please make sure to mention to people,”DO NOT” add this to your diesel fuel!! It has a separate tank. That will get very very expensive fast if you do. Great video
Great demo of how the card works at the big national truck stops. Do you find that the card is not advantageous at the smaller local diesel pumps? I just got my card for my tow vehicle, and it appear that none of my local fueling stations will be a good open road fuel card supporter. Thanks
Is DEF always AFTER fuel? I have just been using the jugs and getting fuel at an easy access pump at a large Get Go very close to our storage unit. The main reason I ask is because our fuel fill and DEF fill are at opposite ends of the coach.
Also, does the DEF pump auto shutoff like the fuel? You were in our coach last Memorial day at Pymatuning state park. Newmar Ventana with dual fuel fill just behind the front axle and DEF just behind the rear axle. Love your videos! Jeff and Ginny
Yes it does auto shut off like fuel. That's so weird! I guess we didn't realize the fuel and Def were so spread apart in your rig. That's inconvenient haha
just signed up for the TSD fuel card using this link. I saw in the TSD video that this card is only good for truck fuel lanes. When i look at the app for my area it shows gas stations all over that do nor have truck lanes. Does it still work? These are what i would call in town type of gas stations. Side note i noticed Mikes name on in the reference and it was spelled wrong! New to the Diesel world so we are learning with our 2023 2500HD
They are continuously making their network of stations bigger to accommodate more stops! As long as the card is accepted at that station for diesel you're good. They are still working on a gas card as well!
We had our first big trip in our ram 1500 ecodiesel towing our trailer recently. We really tried to not use the trucker lanes as we had a trucker come up and tell us that they don't like it, but also made people at the car pumps angry for taking up 2 pumps. It was definitely faster to fill up and get out of the truck lanes and would prefer it. Does it really make the truckers mad? It literally only took us 5 minutes to fill up and get out.
One trucker doesn't speak for all truckers. As long as you fuel up then pull away from the pump you are fine. You'll never make everyone happy, just look at the thumbs down our videos receive haha. Just do your best to get your fuel and move out of the way regardless if you use the truck or car pumps. We'll continue to use the truck lanes and not lose any sleep over it. We've had a lot of truck drivers compliment us on our super c.
Always feels odd putting that pump on the ground in order to be able to use the other side. I get it since 99% are going to use both sides but you would think they would make it so you could just use the satellite side without having to put the main side on the ground. You know at some point someone is going to spray diesel all over the place. 😁
Great video! I got one of those cards through FMCA (it was a total hassle getting it set up) but no one mentioned that it is really intended for trucks & buses, not class C (Sprinters). The big nozzle won't fit into the fill hole of my tank and the card won't work on the auto/RV side. Any thoughts or should I just cancel it?
Yeah the TSD is only valid at the truck pumps. Previously when we had a pickup and a travel trailer we primarily used the good Sam flying j/pilot card. It's not as big of a discount as the TSD but it's a discount nonetheless!

Diesel exhaust fluid. It is sprayed into the exhaust stream to reduce nitrogen oxides.
@@WanderingWagners do you mean black 🚬 that makes diesels resemble coal fueled locomotives?
Black smoke comes from being over fueled. A lot of times people will add a tuner to their diesel trucks then they have an air/fuel imbalance.
