So many of us did feel betrayed when Punk left. But some took it too far and started personally attacking the man. MJF has taken his real betrayal and turned it into the perfect villain motivation.
I’d like to see how dog collar match will continue and it’s strange I thought punk would fight mjf at his home for payback since ny event is right after revolution
I didn't feel betrayed when he left. I felt betrayed because of the way he acted afterwards. Anytime someone asked him about wrestling he looked like they insulted his mother, I get he was pissed and it was justified. But don't take a dump on the people who cared for you both in the business and the fans outside of it.

Imagine if they do a double turn, like Austin and Bret, in the dog collar match, now that would be surprising. Say punk puts mjf in the stf with the collar really mimicking cena. Only this time mjf has no way out, instead of tapping he chooses to pass out. That would be insanely interesting.
This entire promo made me cry, I suffer with ADD as well so I can relate to him, I’ve always loved MJF as a wrestler. This promo was the best of his promos and I love him for it.
The beauty of this promo is the fact that you really don’t know if he is actually being legit or if he is playing mind games with Punk. MJF is the future of this industry and kudos to Punk as well, he is helping make a star out of this kid!!
He's a chicken sh*t heel. It's a obvious swerve. Don't get how anyone doesn't see this. If you think he built his whole career off meeting CM Punk for a photo then you're too busy in la la land
That was a master class of how to build on a heel character's backstory and PPV match. MJF is a once in a generation talent. Tony, pay him all the money in 2024! Punk's reaction was perfect too. What a promo!
Punk's body language: one hand open, like he really wants to help MJF. The other one closed in a fist ready to punch MJF, because he knows who he is talking to. Just amazing. This promo is already a classic segment.
Damn, what a great observation. Idk if that was intentional or not, but I'd obviously like to think it was. Either way the promo was already a 10/10, but that little detail just dialed it up to an 11 to me.
Wow didn’t catch that! So much emotion from both parties. The shot at 7:32 where punk kinda hesitates before entering the ring felt real to me. Both characters showing signs of possible turns yet keeping to their current heel/ babyface traits presents this feud with so many possibilities. AEW baby!!!!
The emotion, the build, the history building the arc of a traditional villain who was once a good hearted guy turned bad not by choice but by force of society… the tears, the voice crack, the stare down to each other asking if this was true? And the subtle low “it’s true”… wow that’s a true masterpiece. Thank you AEW for giving us these 2 to present such art.

He literally gave his whole super villain backstory. This was honestly amazing story telling. I’m the same age around MJF and honestly that part when he said “You left me” really got to me because when I was younger I was bullied and was very quiet but Cm Punk help me have a little bit of a voice. Kinda, turned me into the person I am today tbh. This is what you call STORY TELLING. This goes back in their FIRST promo when Punk said something like “Your upset that I didn’t mention your name in the medias but i mentions the other pillars and other young talent” it was way more to the story of MJF part. Then their 3rd promo I believe Punk said something like The meet and greet was just another day to punk, but MJF it was meeting his Idol. Even though MJF is sincere about his backstory that’s when he will manipulate punk for a different match. The greatest supervillain has the most heartbreaking backstories. I fucking love it.

Absolute masterclass of a segment. This is what I've been waiting for from both of them. Really playing into the fact that Punk was MJF's hero, and he was a bitter fan after he left wrestling. Don't know why people think this somehow presented Punk as a heel, or that there needs to be some kind of double turn. It just perfectly added so much nuance to an already great feud. Can't wait for Revolution.
Agreed. This storyline/feud is just sooooo damn good I almost don't want the match to happen. I could wait a fucking year and love it with story telling such as this.
MJF could fit in professional wrestling in any era you put him in. Today’s era, the territory days, hell even the carnival days. He’s a gem to professional wrestling.
I rewatched this promo for over 15 times, and mor I watch it, more I love it. This is insanely good. When the rivalry comes to points like THAT, you know it will either not end after the PPV match, or it will turn into a god damn BEST tag team angle you could ever dreamed of.
there seriously hasn't been a heel like him since... well, CM Punk!! Rowdy Piper is looking down at him with a big smile. He would absolutely love it all if he were still here.
Listen, I don't think this man can be who he is , be as passionate he is, like the wrestlers he does and not end up working for Vince. There's no way this person's brain will let him not work for Vince at some point....
Probably the best feud in wrestling right now. MJF's promo, walking away in tears and CM Punk's confussion... Even I was torn after this. MJF is truly one of the best.
How is MJF so good at everything?! He's brilliant on the mic, he's great in the ring, he's got a great mind for wrestling and a great business mind, he's an amazing actor and he's also amazing as singing. What a guy
Wtf man, he actually cried! This is honestly one of the best wrestling promos I’ve ever seen. I’m finding myself increasingly envious of just how talented and brilliant and passionate MJF is for his craft. He is amazing.
I’ll admit... I didn’t think MJF was as legit as people thought but seeing him in the spotlight against a guy with a caliber of CM Punk, he’s gained a supporter out of me. AEW truly does have a gem on its hand and MJF knows it.
This promo proves that "A villain is just a victim who has an untold story" MJF totally nailed it 🔥💖 it was really great to see that he's got a soft side too, a lot of people can actually relate to the problems he has suffered throughout, it got to a point where people started cheering him; the guy who's the most hated heel in pro wrestling rn. This also proves that MJF can control a crowd easily and when the time's right he can be a top Babyface as well 🙌🏻🔥❤️

Bro I know you’re screaming for some reason but Wardlow turning on MJF cuz he’s turned into a good guy would be fucking awesome Could even have MJF try to apologize to him and Wardlow beat his ass for “showing weakness” and being an even darker heel then MJF
He WOULD be a good face, but DAMMIT he's such a better heel. I know you gotta be able to change between face and heel, have that versatility which he can do, but he is so fun to watch as a heel. This especially hits home for me because like MJF, I was also 11 years old in 2007 and CM Punk was one of my favorite wrestlers back when he was on the ECW brand.
MJF's stock just rose even higher after this. Whether there's any truth to what he said or if it's all mind games, this promo raised the bar. Excited to see how the story ends.
Shit I can see this match ending in these guys 'potentially hating each other',, but have mutual respect at the end of the day; I can also see at some point MJF can get into a feud with whoever the Tag Champs may be months down the line and offer Punk to basically be the "Best Tag Team in the World, formed by the the 2 Best in the World". But thats if MJF takes a Face Turn or if Punk takes a Heel turn.
Most likely it's a true story or at least a slightly embellished version of a true story but it never happened to MJF the character, it happened to MJF the guy. That's why he can "act" like it's so real, because to some extent it may be, but he's cutting a real promo which in character is a fake story that he's just using to screw with Punk.
i mean it may mess up (if there are cracks ... of a face turn eventually) any MJF vs Wardlow (as a face himself) stuff ... but ... calling this a great promo ... i feel like is under selling it .... i COULD also see this being a real thing for MJF and then he's such a great heel ... he comes out and ACTS like it's not after beating punk .. "I had you guys eating that crap up" .... he can get people to boo AND chear him at the same time
The fact that MJF is literally about a week older than my sister (who is turning 27 this year and actually lives with ADD herself) and doing such an amazing job in this company just proves age is just a number. I watched this promo and I kid you not, it literally gave me a chill down my spine. Say what you want about MJF. Love him or hate is guts, I think he is truly a diamond in the rough. Talented, smart, clearly built for this line of work. He really is a complete package.
The one thing about the MJF promo last night was that it was believable. He touched on things that people can relate to and possibly experienced in their lives at some point. Love him or hate him at the time he was doing the promo if anyone had experienced that in their lives you could put yourself in his shoes.
If there's one thing this segment shows all of us it's that everyone is human and is vulnerable and even when we think we know the full story we don't. Love or hate him you can't deny MJF is a great wrestler and IDOL
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhh, but a part of me still thinks he's up to something. that's what's so brilliant about it though. it's either a big face swerve for MJF, or he's doing what he does best... being a manipulative SOB, lol
Haven't watched wrestling in 10 years but this guy is different. Never seen a wrestler like him who I believe in 100% This guy brought me back to wrestling
In my entire life of watching wrestling, I didn’t think a promo as strong as MJF’s would bring me to tears until now. MJF is already one of the best wrestlers of the modern era.
I whole heartedly agree. I'm 29 been a fan since I was 9. 20 years I've never heard a promo that made me cry quite like this one. Some have gotten me emotional, teared up even but at the end, right before punk came out, streams down my face. In my opinion this one promo just catapulted him into a stratosphere that only a few occupy right now. If he has the match I think he can with punk, win or loss mjf will be up for wrestler of the year and in my opinion, he will dominate the 2020s as the greatest of the decade
I've watched this segment about a dozen times since Wednesday, and one of the things I keep coming back to is how MJF still thought of himself as "5-foot nothing" in 2014, despite being big enough for football scholarships. Anyone who's ever been bullied knows how you sometimes get stuck looking at that corrupted vision of yourself and how hard it is to change it. And how sometimes, years later, when you think all is well and that wound is suddenly torn open all over again. I can't boo this man anymore.
Nah. Next week he's going to have his cronies blindside Punk and laugh in his face and tell him about the time in high school when he and his friends threw quarters at the stupid kid who tried out for football
His attempted crying leading into voice cracks was laughably bad. So bad that I genuinely think he was trying to come off as faking it. You know, in a mocking manner.
Wow. Just wow. This has to be promo of the year. The way MJF speaks so candidly, the way it never violates his character or his actions, the way they played with us waiting to see if the other shoe will drop. This is an absolute masterpiece of a segment.
The very simple touch that even Tony Schiavone admits to feeling like empathy even though it’s well established that he hates MJF. Beautiful touch to an even more beautiful promo.
Masterclass story telling. From the crying on cue to CM Punk entering the ring with one hand open and the other fist clenched in case of a set up. This is what wrestling has been missing. Emotion. Story telling.

its the catalyst to a story that could SERIOUSLY make MJF something he's never been in his entire career.. sympathetic. I honestly still think he's going to be a lifer heel, but goddmn if this wasn't a swerve!!
My fav part. First thought was I wished they had mics so the crowd could hear and react. Now I think it's better without the mics because it makes it more real between them
Having been diagnosed with ADD and bipolar disorder myself, hearing MJF pour his heart out into this promo and throwing in some unscripted reality into it made me choke on tears. You gotta give it to him, he's good.
The 8mile “tell these people something they don’t already know about me” moment. Took the fuel punk had with that picture and made it his own. The depth to this story just got so much thicker. This is great
Was thinking the same thing. This is another level of ring psychology. I love MJF. I fail to see how he’s a heel. Unless he says he made the whole thing up for an edge in their match.
As MJF was screaming into the camera at the end i felt the "cane Dewey" promo energy from him, MJF is without a doubt one of the best talkers of his generation and that's what makes his feud with Punk that much better.
He is the best heel in professional wrestling, it should stay this way, most people don't actually hate him. This guy literally gets booed and hated in the most respectful way, it's appreciation for his talent.
This is a star making moment for MJF... not that he wasn't already a star, but that was fucking intense. God damn that was probably the mother of all double turns, even unintentionally. It just added a new layer to an already outstanding angle between these two. THIS is what I've been waiting for ever since Punk came back. Fucking classic.
This gives MJF justification for his actions, this is classic villain. This was a fated clash. I hope we can see them face off a few times, with time between encounters.
The best villains are the ones that you don’t agree with the motives of, but you at least understand what they are saying. This could also all be a swerve.
Great promo and a great story period. He put all the emotions from that bullying experience and changed that energy into something incredibly positive. That’s the key
💯, he used his celebrity status to push his way in, failed on all levels and crawled back to fake fighting for a check…Kind of hypocritical when he got mad about John Cena and other part-timers for doing the same damn thing even though they didn’t fail at what they under took

God, be realistic. It's a good segment and yeah, but stop kissing their ass.
@@unfazedmotivator Whos kissing who? Its quite good to the point some people are having doubts booing the heel. I'd say thats a damn good promo.
@@unfazedmotivator nah, I know what I think. Thanks, tho.
CM Punk- "Is that true? Is it real?"
MJF just before leaving- "It's true"
Also if you look at CM Punk’s hands he has one that wants to punch MJF and the other one is to embrace and hug him.
The very simple touch that even Tony Schiavone admits to feeling like empathy even though it’s well established that he hates MJF. Beautiful touch to an even more beautiful promo.
He hates him or just the script?
Masterclass story telling. From the crying on cue to CM Punk entering the ring with one hand open and the other fist clenched in case of a set up. This is what wrestling has been missing. Emotion. Story telling.
I really liked how Cm punk was crying and begging Mickey Gall to release him from the submission in the octagon..
@Top Lobster I mean why are you fighting on the behalf of a fake fighting fraud like cm punk...

Goosebumps bro.
Damn every week I didn’t think AEW marks could be more sad and pathetic then I read comments like this. This crap is horrible,

Being a huge fan of the Attitude Era,I've honestly haven't seen a more engaging villain than this MJF character since then..this dude's got "IT"
This is a career defining promo moment for MJF, he does pull of something new, edgy and relevant to some social issue degree which captures the fans to another level.
its the catalyst to a story that could SERIOUSLY make MJF something he's never been in his entire career.. sympathetic. I honestly still think he's going to be a lifer heel, but goddmn if this wasn't a swerve!!
@@joeyclemenza7339 this is a swerve, the feud will become more serious for the next 1-2 months, MJF is a heel and will stay on it for a long time
Punk looking at him saying “is it true?” and MJF saying “it’s true” hit right in the feels, even for CM Punk
CM punk sees himself in MJF because his upbringing was a hell too. And now does punk even go through with the match?
My fav part. First thought was I wished they had mics so the crowd could hear and react. Now I think it's better without the mics because it makes it more real between them
Yeah, i saw it live and that was something i noticed immediately
Wasn't as good when Mike Jackson hit cm punk with strong bolo punches to his head before sending him to the ICU..
MJF should win the Oscar. Such natural talent to express emotions 🥺
This was Nickelodeon level acting

Having been diagnosed with ADD and bipolar disorder myself, hearing MJF pour his heart out into this promo and throwing in some unscripted reality into it made me choke on tears. You gotta give it to him, he's good.
The 8mile “tell these people something they don’t already know about me” moment. Took the fuel punk had with that picture and made it his own. The depth to this story just got so much thicker. This is great
Was thinking the same thing. This is another level of ring psychology. I love MJF. I fail to see how he’s a heel. Unless he says he made the whole thing up for an edge in their match.
Gave me the same chills as Mick Foley's "Cane Dewey" promo. This will be remembered as one of the best promos in pro wrestling history.
As MJF was screaming into the camera at the end i felt the "cane Dewey" promo energy from him, MJF is without a doubt one of the best talkers of his generation and that's what makes his feud with Punk that much better.
That's exactly what I thought when he said "you gutless coward".
Full Cane Dewey.
That promo was amazing back in the day and yes I got similar vibes from this promo too. I think this will be one that is remembered for years to come.
This ain't leading to a face turn, its adding depth to a heel
It's almost like a villain's origin story, honestly.
He's getting Punk to let his guard down
He is the best heel in professional wrestling, it should stay this way, most people don't actually hate him. This guy literally gets booed and hated in the most respectful way, it's appreciation for his talent.

Can't get enough of watching & listening to this promo. Great story great promo. Mega Talent. MJF put lots of emotion/passion on this one.
Punk came back after he humiliated himself in the UFC...
MJF is going to find a way to be a bigger heel from this when this is all said and done. That's the genius part

i think he was bullied though
This gives MJF justification for his actions, this is classic villain. This was a fated clash.
I hope we can see them face off a few times, with time between encounters.
The best villains are the ones that you don’t agree with the motives of, but you at least understand what they are saying.
This could also all be a swerve.
Cm punk being humbled in the ufc justifies why he ain't such a p o s anymore...
@@TheOfficialGobbledyGooker he was a POS before? Thanks for letting us know.
Humanizing the villain. And telling the story and the motivation behind the villain. Damn. You got me there MJF. We have a top heel, ladies and gents.
Great promo and a great story period. He put all the emotions from that bullying experience and changed that energy into something incredibly positive. That’s the key
I’ll say it now, MJF is one of if the not the best person on the mic hands done. That promo was stunning

MJF's promo skills, the crowd's confused reaction, and Punk's shocking realization at the end made this one of the greatest promos of all time!

💯, he used his celebrity status to push his way in, failed on all levels and crawled back to fake fighting for a check…Kind of hypocritical when he got mad about John Cena and other part-timers for doing the same damn thing even though they didn’t fail at what they under took

CM Punk vs MJF might literally be feud of the year, and it’s not even over yet. That promo from MJF, followed by Punk’s “is it true? Was that real?” It doesn’t even feel like pro wrestling anymore, this is something so unique and special.
And then at 7:55 MJF mouthing it's true with tears streaming down his face as a reply too. Man this is special.
I love when MJF makes a promo. He’s the best in promos without a doubt. He’s the future HOF
