CM Punk’s quest to make MJF the biggest heel in the industry apparently won’t stop, even if he has to nearly bleed his brain dry. Brutal beatdown. Phenomenal go-home segment. Cannot wait.
This was better. That moment went on a night that also featured the burial of Booker, that shooting star, hulkamania returning and rock Austin 3. Roman brock is the greatest trilogy in mania history.
Not only has this been done perfectly, they have also set up Wardlow's babyface turn brilliantly. MJF slapping Wardlow was huge, can't wait for their eventual match.
This was the peak of AEW. Best AEW feud by miles, maybe the only truly great AEW feud. I was a fan at this time mainly because of Punk. Say what you want about Punk but the dude knows how to create a great feud and story. I've never seen a bad Punk feud. The great thing about this feud is that it not only speaks to a Father and Son problematic dynamic but it also speaks to a fan and their hero dynamic AND ALSO yourself and your inner demons dynamic. It covers all the basis as a male human being, it's just genius
This was on another level entirely. This feud has been nothing short of perfect, the execution, the pacing...you can tell Punk & MJF are committed to making this a classic. It reminded me of the Rockers "Barber Shop" break-up angle...it was that menacing. Awesome.

When MJF gave his promo, my exact thoughts were “The boy MJF was needed a hug. The man he is deserves to be pummeled until he can never wrestle again.” I was almost literally proven right.
Loved every detail of this promo, from start to finish. Both guys wearing all white to really pop the blood was genius. Cannot wait until Revolution, and Wardlow going off on MJF.
You know its great storytelling when you can clearly see where this was all going, yet still be captivated when it happens. Predictable isn't always bad. It's usually only bad when it doesn't deliver and boy, did this deliver.
I think they should drag that one out for as long as it takes…when they finally pull the trigger MJF should be the champion and then have a Batista like moment with Wardlow.
This is how you do pro wrestling. The emotion, the bell ringing amidst the chaos. When AEW gets something right, they home run it. More of this, less of the indy booking and this promotion will easily be the best wrestling company in the world
I hope so, they have all of the tools to do so, the problem is they sometimes feel like it's better to book indie stuff like it's the best way of storytelling, while any wrestling fan looking at segments like these is thinking otherwise

Punk and MJF have been sprinkling a lot of delightful "if you know, you know" elements into their story. I hope folks are motivated by clues like yours to check the referenced moments (and matches) out!
In fairness, a lot of the classic ROH stuff isn't widely available unless you get it by less than legal means. Honor Club is missing a ton of the old stuff, and even when they do have classic ROH, it's only the matches and not the full shows. Hopefully Tony Khan rectifies this now that he owns it.
