I'm pretty sure the NI 88 key (only!) keyboards use a Fatar keybed, and I'm also pretty sure that... a lot of 88 key (only!) keyboards use the same keybed. So if you liked the feel of the keyboard, you could buy the Arturia and get (I'm pretty sure) the same keybed feel. Arturia has the same lock-in/strong preference for their own software, although I do like their software better than NI's. But I don't exclusively use it, so I ended up getting a (61 key, no weighted keybed) Novation, which is, for better or worse, pretty software-ecosystem-independent. I would advise looking into who makes the keybed of whatever models interest you; keyboard manufacturers don't always publicize this and, as noted, it can be different between the 88 key and non-88-key models. But you might find a model you like with the same keybed.

I love my S88 for all the reasons you mention. It's easy enough to buy a separate midi controller for more "stuff" because the things the S88 does well is worth some minor inconveniences to me. The build quality alone is amazing. Thanks for the video.

Fair points, definitely some of the best action I’ve felt in a midi keyboard.

Hi, Is it worth buying modx88 Plus and using it as a MIDI controller? Actually, I am looking to buy Modx but at the same time also a MIDI controller. Please suggest. Thanks

Hello! I don’t have a ton of experience with that particular keyboard but I’d say that’s a great option for something with built in sounds that can also be a midi controller. If you have more budget, I’d say look into a Nord Stage but Yamaha certainly makes good stuff too

Lucky for us the MK3 has even less stuff.

I’ve been really happy with my M-Audio Keystation. Super simple, haven’t looked back
