every oportunity you will continue to procrastinate if you do not take the decisition to stop.... everything depends on you...you are the begining and the end of your life.... you are the arquitect of your destiny... no one else.....
Still great; thank You! Ten years ago a left a note with a link to this video clip on my main PC, which still contains valuable data (somewhere..) and still has to be cleared up. I'm making progress. A first transscript (want to do a sheet in German): How to Beat Procrastination I) Ten minute Rule: break task down into small tasks (5-10 minutes each). Do the first 10-minute-chunk Just For Fun. II) Grab a sheet of paper, ask yourself: 1. Where I am, 2. What do I actually want to accomplish? 3. How will I feel after doing it? III) Swap the "Ultimate Goal" vs. the "Immediate Desire"!
Arina, you have very valid points and helpful my friend shika , told me that i procastinate because i have too many goals and since i have too many goals , i will never start any goal so, now i am working on only one goal at a time and to track i use "just1goal" iphone app and it appears that i am now moving and not procastinating so , looks like we should not have too many desires at a time.
I'm trying out a new system called the 5-second rule. It's similar to the 10-minute technique, except you only need 5 seconds. Say you have to write an essay. Instead of saying you're going to write a paragraph or two, or write for half an hour, or outline the essay, here's what you do. 1) Run into a wall fast to shock your body. (Alternatively, slap the wall hard with both hands high.) 2) Work on the essay for five seconds. 3) Then you can decide to either take a break or continue working.
@SlackersJournal If you decide to do something like homework or any other work for only ten minutes then that makes it a lot easier to actually do it (because it's only for 10 minutes) After the 10 minutes you can easily go on for a lot longer because you are already doing work.
I don't know, but if you want to do something but don't like it, then you could get assistance..or contract it out. A good example of getting assistance for something you want to do but don't like, is cleaning, get a cleaner. One you can get on with and "work" with. This may apply to other things than cleaning.
For me, it's harder to do something I know to be important. It's easier for me to not do something I know is not important (like an addictions). Maybe that's the first step. Stop wasting time, then use your time for whats important. Then prioritize and do the most important first.
1. I am sitting in my room on youtube 2. I want to finish my 4 sec ions of math notes, math homework, math quiz corrections, and study for a test 3. Relieved, tired, bored.
The problem is that when I think of something I need to do, I can't help but think about everything else I need to do. "write that essay" turn into "and the other essay, and I need to study for that test, and there is some self-learning I would like to do too, and I need to fill out those scholarship forms and write their essays..." Also, about the 3rd question: What if I don't feel satisfied after doing things?
Try to decrease the opportunity to do something else. For example. If u r home alone and u need to do homework from a textbook or something, don't do it in the room your computer is in or yh...
Holy shit! Scuse my French but this stuff actually helped! I can objectively say that I have the worst case of procrastination (I'm already in therapy and stuff) I'm going to study now cause of the 2nd method (real magic) and I can't wait to trick my mind with the 3rd. Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you
"Here are three extremely powerful techniques to beat procrastination, used by most successful people. The 1° is called 10-minute rule. I am sure you know that if a task involves to much hard work it stands a very good chance of getting postponed, but the bottom line is..."
LOL. It comes back to your state of mind. If you don't wanna do it, then you'll NEVER wanna do it. But actually, the psychological switching of immediate desire and ultimate goal does work a little. And if your state of mind is right, it helps to get the ball rolling.
Where are you: In front of my computer doing a paper that is due in 3 hours What do you want to do?: Freakin sleep How will you feel after doing it? Probably ecstatic since I've extremely sleep deprived
HUMANS are Ah-mazing. We have to trick our own minds in order to do the things that will help us obtain a better life :) Successful and rich people do that everyday and that's why they are rich. Thx for the videos! the series are VERY interesting.
Eh these are okay. The example of quitting smoking is silly though that's less tied into procrastination and more so addiction which requires an entirely different psychological perspective.
+candlewax122 : I couldn't agree more. Terrible example. Quitting smoking has nothing to do with procrastination. It's about fighting a chemical addiction, not about procrastinating.
1- sunday, 9PM 2-what do i want to do? i want to understand my math homework and get it over with, if i dont get a 90% in the next exam, im a goner (screw you derivatives of stupid trig and log fcts!!!) 3-how will i feel after doing it? GREEEAT! does this motivate me? not really, cuz im still blocking on every single question. it frustrates me and i start procrastinating!!
It might sound weird but I found out that by waling up at 6:00 AM everyday, getting out of bed and getting some clothes on has really helped my procrastination quite a bit!

We joke about it because deep down we know one day we will look back and realise we had a wonderful gift of time on this earth and squandered it.
I've read tons of procrastination books. The last 2 techniques are especially original. I like this a lot. Thanks.
Still great; thank You! Ten years ago a left a note with a link to this video clip on my main PC, which still contains valuable data (somewhere..) and still has to be cleared up. I'm making progress.

OMG these actually work do all 3 and you will be successful!!

im gonna start this tomorrow!
@SlackersJournal Its not about focus. Its about making something seem more appealing.
I already am doing the third technique!!! SWEET I'M AWESOME!!!
I find watching "beating procrastination" videos isn't such a bad way to procrastinate. Movies and computer games are better though.
I liked it.. Simple and eady
the first technique was very useful
going through every single video about procrastination on youtube when I am suppose to be working right at this very moment.
GREAT advice! thanks! I am going to start doing work tomorrow =)

Well .. all I got out of this video, is that I am not going for a smoke .. Thanks!

Thank you, darling, nice video; now im going to rearange my things.
1. I am on the couch. 2. I want to do nothing. 3. Awesome, because I did not have to do anything.
I don't know, but if you want to do something but don't like it, then you could get assistance..or contract it out. A good example of getting assistance for something you want to do but don't like, is cleaning, get a cleaner. One you can get on with and "work" with. This may apply to other things than cleaning.

Yes, where is the rest of it?! I wonder if someone can tell.

"Here are three extremely powerful techniques to beat procrastination, used by most successful people. The 1° is called 10-minute rule. I am sure you know that if a task involves to much hard work it stands a very good chance of getting postponed, but the bottom line is..."
i know, easier said then done!

Where are you: In front of my computer doing a paper that is due in 3 hours
What do you want to do?: Freakin sleep
How will you feel after doing it? Probably ecstatic since I've extremely sleep deprived
It works like Magic? then I opt for Magic.
I'm writing an essay on procrastination that's due tomorrow, and what am I doing? Watching videos on procrastinating...
HUMANS are Ah-mazing. We have to trick our own minds in order to do the things that will help us obtain a better life :) Successful and rich people do that everyday and that's why they are rich. Thx for the videos! the series are VERY interesting.
Where you are?
How did she know I was using a Mac???
This seems like pure magic to me!
Eh these are okay. The example of quitting smoking is silly though that's less tied into procrastination and more so addiction which requires an entirely different psychological perspective.
That last one is confusing. And uses a very bad example.
+candlewax122 : I couldn't agree more. Terrible example. Quitting smoking has nothing to do with procrastination. It's about fighting a chemical addiction, not about procrastinating.
Watching this video is my way of procrastinating.
1- sunday, 9PM
2-what do i want to do? i want to understand my math homework and get it over with, if i dont get a 90% in the next exam, im a goner (screw you derivatives of stupid trig and log fcts!!!)
