Was going to buy a hog blaster until I saw the price. I bought a $30 electric leaf blower for home and use it instead. Works wonderfully.

@@k.r.studio5876 Black and Decker model LB700 at Lowe's for $45. I bought mine two years ago. Still, even at $45 now it's not a bad price.

She forgot to mention the most important thing....don't ever shoot high pressure water into your engine fins, air filter or electrical wiring or parts!

True but it depends most airfilters and batteries should theoretically withstand the forces of harsh rain which also means that high water pressure won't do much. The HD sportster manual I used noted to not use it but it also mentions that it's not that big of a deal aslong as all the bikes electronics and motor are turned off.
She didn't use high pressure, I've seen some idiots blasting the Nike with high pressure hoses and it's just asking for trouble

When you touch to feel heat, use the backside of your hand. That way should you burn, your inside is still able to function.

I have a softail deluxe and use Tire Wet to clean my white walls. Its effortless. Apply generous amount of Tire Wet to a folded microfiber towel and then wipe ONLY the white wall (do not let it drip or run onto any portion of your tire used for traction). Wipe the the white wall off with a separate, clean portion of the microfiber towel. Every time you apply tire wet use a clean portion of the towel. If your white walls are yellow or grungy then use a blue scotchbrite sponge pad with a light scrub to restore it to white, then use microfiber towel to clean everything up. To clean bugs from my chrome and headlights I use bare 000 steel wool (no polish, just the steel wool).

The best thing I ever bought for washing my bike was that HOG Blaster!! Gets rid of all that water from all the nooks and crannies that a towel can reach! Plus it will prevent water spots too!!
You just push water from one side to other,
@@user-wq6hl1gd2s I disagree, the HOG blaster pushes the water out of the fins on engine and makes it much easier to dry, plus the air is heated so that also helps drying.
I'm going to try, the only time I wash my motorcycle, it takes me 4 hours and you only half an hour?

I wash mine with distilled water in a Hudson sprayer ;
No mess ; water puddles ; wet feet . Way better -
One sprayer with soap mix and one with rinse water .
No spots !!! Shines like new toaster-

Gets about 5.75L/100km so a very small car. I have no idea what that is in redundant US units. Maybe 42 miles to the US Gallon. So even a "hockey mom SUV" is far worse.

I know two others said it already but motorcycles get really good fuel economy despite their sound. The smaller motorcycle that i own(Rebel 250) gets 60-70MPG, not even a Prius can beat that.
I never spray water directly on my 04 FLSTFI. Just wet & dry micro fiber cloths.

I have a 2001 Sportster 883. I bought it pre-owned from Nationwide Fleet Sales in Lathrop California in May 2019. The odometer was 017,764. It ran perfect. In early December 2020 it developed a problem of oil coming up through the spark plug holes/threads when running. Fresno Harley-Davidson told me they will not work on any Harley-Davidson motorcycle that old. Mathews Harley-Davidson told me in December that they had a guy that would work on it. In late January the Service Department told me they changed their mind and please come get it. They said it would cost me more than my Sportster is worth and would be too time consuming considering the possible difficult search for parts. I understand from their perspective. My Sportster is my first Harley-Davidson motorcycle, my favorite model and era because it is “naturally aspirated” and has a matte silver powerplant.
Can you name a Harley-Davidson Service Center/Dealership that you would trust to correctly repair the motor? Mathews did give me 2 names of motorcycle repair places in Fresno to go talk to, but my Sportster was built / assembled by Harley-Davidson Motor company. I had originally planned to have only Harley-Davidson Technicians touch my Sportster. What say ye?
If it helps, my dealer says the same. But it’s worth pointing out HD is planning to discontinue this motor and therefore stop training future techs on it. If you plan to keep it, it might be time to buy an aftermarket (eg S&S) brand new crate motor and install it yourself. Can be done in your garage and will likely cost a lot less and be less of a headache than fixing that issue, plus you’ll be able to fix it when it brakes again.
@@TigerDavidson Thank You immensely for your reply. It does help to know what your dealer said, although I am confused. Granted I am not knowledgeable of the internal differences other than carburetor versus fuel-injection. I do not know, yet, what “discontinue this motor” means internally? I DO know that there is no Sportster I like the look of on the floors of either Fresno dealership. I do not like the darkened finish of the powertrain, nor the handlebar or instruments. My sole hope may rest in the hands of the motorcycle technicians that I was referred to. Again, Thank You. 😀

Glen Hardy no problem! What Im referring to is the recent news from the EPA regarding the continuation of Harley Sportsters. All companies must register future models in advance for approval and some clever person found Harleys submission to prove that 2021 will be the last year for the Evo engine (your motor). I was suggesting that rather than fix your current engine, you (keeping your current bike) may spend less money buying a new Evo engine from an after market manufacturer and that the experience of doing so may teach you enough to where you would never need to rely on a tech again. Considering that Harley only trains their techs to work on newer bikes, you may be forced to take that learning curve at some point in the future. The news from Harley is fact, but my suggestion is just an opinion. Crossing my fingers they will reply! Are there any other dealers within driving distance you could take the bike too for a second opinion?

Since reading your comments I have developed a gut feeling that I will have to take it to one of the repair shops that Mathews Harley-Davidson suggested. My Sportster-riding days seem to be over already. Thank You for sharing your knowledge.

What he said. Self serve car wash. Bring a trash bag to cover your seat tho, or be careful not to spray it. It might look dry, but water gets into the seams and will make for a damp butt on the way home haha
Do a rinse less wash with ONR a few times, and whenever it's too bad just go to a coin wash

I wash and detail my DYNA 2017 all the time and it still rusts. I'm so disappointed. Harley-Davidsons needs to be kept in flat, it's not an everyday motorcycle.
I don't use water when I clean my bike. I only use lemon pledge. No rust and sparkles like it was new.

I just bought a 2008 FXDL 105th Anniversary edition. It's very clean with no rust & 6k miles on the clock. I'd like to keep it rust free. I park it in the garage.
@@aladdin888 The garage will help, but 6k is nothing, it's still new. If you use most of the season and doing 5k miles per year you will know what I mean. Good luck with your purchase.

It's kind of sad that Harley owners need an instructional video from HD about how to wash their motorcycle don't you think? How about one that tells them which way to sit on the bike? - "sit on the black thing, known as a SEAT, making sure you are facing the handlebars and then carefully place your hands on each end of them - the right hand goes on the right side, the left on the left side, it's best not to try and cross your arms......."

Maybe try to refrain from being so judgemental? Many people have never ridden or taken care of their bikes and conventional wisdom from an automotive perspective is not to spray water directly in your engine bay due to the electronics, filters, etc. yet it's fine to do that here albeit you don't want to use high pressure. People spend a lot on their bikes (especially Harley's) and if they want to make sure they're doing it right then the video doesn't hurt anyone. A lot of things seem like common sense to many people but isnt to others. It may be common sense to have two buckets of water, one to rinse and one to wash to avoid paint swirl, but they don't touch on that here. Are you going to go to a video that explains how to wash a car properly and say how pathetic it is that people need to be taught that? I know it's fun to dunk on Harley owners, but there are plenty other videos out there showing how to wash other bikes so maybe you're just smarter than everyone else.
