    Learn To Ride Pt 02: • How To Ride A Motorcyc...
    Learn TO Ride Pt 03: • How To Ride A Motorcyc...
    STARTUP NOTE!: When starting the bike, you should always hold in your clutch lever, regardless of if the neutral light is on (see pinned user comments below.) In the video, I confirm the bike is in neutral by walking it and then start it, but regarding best practices, you should always hold the clutch in for safe measure!

    Ever wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle? So does Ms. Blockhead (my lady!) We've got her signed up for an incoming MSF course, but she wants to get a head start and is eager to learn! If you're wanting to learn and get your certification, you definitely should sign up for an MSF course as well! Checkout the link below for more info on the Motorcycle Safety Foundation:
    ► MSF Website: www.msf-usa.org/
    ► MSF Handbook: bit.ly/MSFHandbook-BH
    So Ms. Blockhead's been YouTubing 'How to Ride a Motorcycle' and hasn't been able to find a vid that 'thoroughly' goes over a few of the things she's trying to learn. Watching through a few with her, there's some stuff that's left out here n' there, so I told her that I'd make one for her and try to be thorough!
    Alas, the Blockhead "How To Ride A Motorcycle" series was born!* In Part 01, we go over controls on the bike, as well as starting er' up. I bring along my trusty MSF Rider Handbook for some guidance, but kinda 'cliffs notes' it up.
    The vids might seem a bit lengthy, but I know that's how I learn best, so maybe there's some of you out there that are the same (I'd be willing to bet there are!)
    As an NRA certified firearms instructor, I've instructed and taught students before, so I hope that it comes across in the vid (fingers crossed!) However, I never have nor will I claim to be a 'motorcycle instructor.' When it comes to motorcycles, I'm just a dude that enjoys the ride!
    Hope the videos help! As always, thanks for watching, ride safe out there, and stay vigilant!

    Good video Blockhead.
    On the start up section though, as others have mentioned, my MSF instructors always taught us to never trust the dummy lights. You should always physically check that the bike is in neutral first by making sure it can move back and forth freely. Then upon starting the bike always hold in your clutch lever, just to be on the safe side.
    Keep up the good work!
    As always ride safe my friend!

    • @dippitydoinit
      @dippitydoinit 7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I respect that but if your dummy lights didn't work properly then manufacturers would constantly be getting sued so... I trust my dummy lights because... Lawyers.

    • @brandonstone6962
      @brandonstone6962 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      But any true motorcyclist always makes sure that it is in neutral before getting off the bike given the situation and where you're parking.. That and the fact that a false neutral is a real thing you can't trust that you are fully in neutral by the light anyways

Needless to say, I went up a hill cause I was too nervous to turn, got stuck on a hill for 15mins and stalled a few times. I have this same bike! I just took a motorcycle course and was stuck with a grom that had been in a bit of a crash in a previous class- the throttle wasn’t catching and it would chug and then stall. I kept saying something was wrong with the bike but the instructors would roll their eyes and say ‘it’s not the bike.’ Finally on my last day, ready to give up, they let me use the instructors bike and he used the one I was on and sure enough, he stalled it over and over and over- I only got a couple hours on a bike that didn’t stall and chug and I am kinda mad that I didn’t get to enjoy learning shifting and other things because I was too caught up on not stalling that broken POS. These videos are really awesome and I’m excited to take my bike into a parking lot and practicing. Thanks so much! You’re a great instructor!

    Watched this for the first time 2 years ago. Since last September I've been riding the same bike but a year newer. Never rode anything but a dirt bike.. once, as far as bikes go. Grew up on 4 wheelers tracotrs and standard vehicles tho, so I took to it like a fish in water. There's nothing like it, truly. Still need the "basic rider course" but I already knew all the basics. All that changed for me was getting used to the weight. I'm already wanting a 1200 dyna now lol thanks for the channel brother. Helped me a lot, thats for sure.

    Good stuff man! One of the most basic and clearest How-To-Ride vids i've seen. My MSF instructor drilled into us to never trust the green Neutral light. "It lies!!!!" he would say over and over. Gets me to hold the clutch and brake while starting though. But I think he just had a pissy bike at one point that turned him salty.. lol

Lol I then look up videos on the iron 883 and come across your video on why it's a good starting bike. From there I'm hooked on your videos! Immediately subscribed lol Hopefully soon enough I take a course and eventually get my self an iron 883 just like yours. Keep up the great videos! I'll be going from Houston to Orlando in August. What you did on that bike just now? Is exactly how I got comfortable with Motorcycles on my Dad's Honda back in 1984 in the garage. Just did that over and over as a kid. Put it in Neutral. Move it around. Start it up. Move it around. Make sure it's in Neutral. I did that over and over again until I got comfortable enough to take it out ...
