    UPDATE (July 2021): We've had a few questions on the torque values we mention in the video.
    I got them from the RVAirflow document here: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/041...
    It cites Coleman manufacturing as the source…
    However, looking at www.airxcel.com/DesktopModule... it just says, "Proper tension has been achieved for each bolt when any portion of each gasket indicating tab has been pulled down even with the roof. See Figure 4. The upper unit has now been properly installed with optimum gasket compression.”
    Our take: Use your best judgment. If the torque value seems too high, revert to the instructions from AirXCel.

    You guys always have the greatest advice and information. Thanks for all you do. I have a 2020 260RD and had this installed at the Vegas GD rally just before things shut down. I only have the one rear unit and could feel the difference right away. Being in AZ, it does make a big difference cooling the unit!! Would recommend to anyone. Keep up the great work and great videos. Stay safe!

    I just wanted to write my first comment to you both and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your all your videos. I am receiving my AirFlow units in a few days and can’t wait to get them installed. I am just a single guy, full time in my 351M and winter in Arizona and summer in Wisconsin. I have followed your advice and recommendations for more things then I can count, including removing my rear benches and making that a wrap around desk since I work from home as well (Network Administrator). You both are amazing at your thoroughness and detailed descriptions that take pretty much any questions out of not only how to do it, but if it’s worth investing in it. And you always make it fun to watch as well. Thank you again so very much, and I hope one day our paths will cross!

    Installed this product last week and EXCELLENT improved airflow. I did have spacing problems with the vertical divider so I totally eliminated this on my Dometic unit. Thank you! I watched your installation video and had my AC ready to go when the package arrived. I had it installed in about 40 minutes. The only problem I had was sliding the foam into place because it was very tight around the plastic duct inserts. Mixed up some dish washing liquid, put a light coating on both the foam and the inserts and it just slid right in. Perfect! Buttoned it up and ready for the big test.
    I have a wind meter and before the install I measured between 7 -9 mph at both ends of my trailer from the ceiling vents. After the install I measured between 18 and 21mph! So breezy it blew the install sheet right off the table! Now my wife is worried it will be getting too cold in the trailer with the AC on.
    My RV is a 30 foot Starcraft Autumn Ridge 266RKS travel trailer with a 15k Coleman Air Conditioner. Can’t wait for the summer heat to really try it out. Used your discount code and saved a few bucks. Love watching all of your videos!

    Installed this upgrade a couple of weeks ago and we just had temps high enough for a day or two to try it out. The increased air movement is wow!! Makes the window shades move a little. Started with an 84 degree inside temp and after about 45 minutes it was down to 77 and cycling properly. It will be well worth the cost. We have a 2nd unit in the bedroom that we run during the day on Hot days with a small fan on the dresser moving air into the living area which helps. The big change will be at night when we only run the main unit. Now the bedroom will be easier to cool with the increased air movement. The one thing I found during installation was after centering the a/c unit I still had a small space between the sides and the duct opening. I added a thin foam strip around the opening on the insert and it fit nice and snug. If you have a ducted unit that this upgrade applies to by all means get it.

    Installed it before it got hot here in NE Ohio. Last year our Coleman A/C used to have to run almost continuously on high fan mode when the temps were in the 90's. And, we'd have to run the bedroom A/C to knock the temp down before bed. Now with this installed our A/C runs for a few minutes at a time, at low setting, on even the hottest days. And, we haven't had to run the bedroom A/C at all! Also, it now blows so hard-even on low setting-that it blows the dogs hair around while she's laying on the floor! Awsome product!

    I'm continuously amused by the severe lack of engineering / design of these RV manufacturers and their vendors. They build cheap crap knowing fully that its garbage and then 3rd party companies (like the inventor of this product) actually design something that WORKS and we have to then spend more $$$$. It's absolutely amazing. I guess that's what makes the economy continue to work. Either way, you always have the BEST reviews and install vids AND the best bloopers! Appreciate you both.

    • @uowebfoot
      @uowebfoot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The RV industry is a joke. There are no standards and they have a bunch of minimum wage guys throwing these things together as fast as possible to make their quotas to make their bonuses. Most QC is poor as well. I know 2 people that worked for Monaco coach here in Oregon and they both said nobody really cared about quality. It was just getting them out ASAP.

    • @wannabefulltimers
      @wannabefulltimers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@uowebfoot you're not kidding...it really is about how quick they roll them off the production lines. But, it's not just RV's, it's new homes too. We just bought a new home (almost done being built) and these builders don't give two shits about quality. There's no pride in workmanship anymore in this country on anything...very sad.

    • @hermes6587
      @hermes6587 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If they built to higher standards the average buyer would not pay the significantly higher cost, since the average RV buyer only looks at only the floor plans, colors etc. Often what makes a better or higher quality unit is not readily seen or touched. The RV market is highly competitive. Further they know that for those RVers who appreciate quality will make improvements through the after market.

    • @wannabefulltimers
      @wannabefulltimers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@hermes6587 Your point is somewhat valid. However, my father has owned several RV Bus Motorhomes well over 100K in price and they fall apart just as bad. So high price does not mean better quality.

    One installation tip: When inserting the unit and it seems to get stuck, remove it and use a solution of dishwashing liquid and water to coat the foam and the outside edge of the duct covers, the re-insert. Makes it a lot easier.

I put them back in place and now I have about a 50 percent improvement in airflow through my air ducts! Now I can close the dump vents for a cooler RV and it's quieter! I am definitely getting the RV airflow system and see how much more it will improve!

    We just spent the weekend in Quartzsite, Arizona, where the temperature was 85 degrees on Friday and Saturday. This was our first trip where we could do a real world test with the RV Airflow installed in our Coleman Mach 15k AC. Prior to the install it took quite awhile to reach the set temp on the thermostat once we plugged into shore power. It was 85 outside and 81 inside when I first powered up the trailer. I set the thermostat to 76 degrees and within 30 minutes the AC shut down and the inside was a cool 76 degrees. That's never happened that quick before.
    During the day when the AC restarted it only ran a few minutes before it reached the set temp and shut down. It has never done that before either. It used to run quite awhile before reaching the set temp. It also seemed to run a lot quieter because when it ran we didn't have to turn up the volume on the TV like we did before.
    Needless to say we are both impressed with the great improvement. It works better than we expected and so glad we found this video! Best mod I have made to my trailer since new!

I put it back correctly and it is cooling MUCH better now! Thank you, as I was getting ready to drop a grand on a new a/c unit. Cheers !

    Finished installing this in my 2013 Montana Mountaineer 5th wheel. Mine is a Dometic Brisk Air II 15K unit. Did have to do a duct mod since the factory installed one side to far forward and the unit was a little forward and not square. Didn't take any readings before (wish I had) but did after. According to what I could find, this unit is rated at 350 CFM. I have a total of 5 outlets and had to check my results twice to make sure it was correct. Assuming that my wind speed indicator is reasonably accurate, converting MPH to CFM I get a total of 570.55 CFM from the sum of all five outlets. The air flow is greatly increased, by feel, from what it was before. More supply air creates more return air = cooler RV. Will have to wait till we're out camping in hot weather before I can say this will keep our rig cool. Have high hope.

    Simple yet efficient, great idea! If I were wanting to upgrade just one unit I’d probably pull the trigger now, but for 3 AC’s, my electric heat upgrade takes priority 💪 haha
    Thanks for the vid!

    You guys are the best. Love your outtakes. My camper is currently 81^F and its only gotten up to 89^F outside. I was going to purchase some foam board today and fabricated something similar but it looks like I need to spend the money to capitalize on this engineers great product.

    This system worked well in my Thor ACE but took some whittling /shaving and hole relocation. But the results were awesome major difference in airflow.

    Just got finished installing in my 2019 Thor Challenge(r) 37TB. With some minor adjustments, there was no fuss no muss getting this done. I was prompted to call the manufacturer with a question and received a return call within minutes. The gentleman walked me through some suggestions that worked.

    Excellent video. We have a new 2022 Reflection 28BH manufactured in August 2021. Grand Design did a fairly good job with the AC install. I first thought that our single 15,000 BTU Coleman AC unit had the original design, but it actually does have the new plenum box. However, it was poorly installed. There were a few vents that had very little airflow, I could hear turbulence in the system, and the system didn't cool as well as expected. When I took things apart I found that the duct openings didn't fully align with the openings in the Styrofoam box, and the rubber gaskets were all pushed out of place so the seals were less than perfect. There were also several large gaps in the raceway duct openings. I metal taped the gaps in the duct work, fixed the rubber gaskets, and carefully aligned all the openings during re-installation. There was a significant airflow improvement and less noise from air turbulence. Chad, you did a wonderful job explaining and measuring the system and flow improvements. Thanks!

    I modified my plenum to achieve the same result using foam board. It's not as nice looking, but since the part wouldn't fit my A/C I had no choice. Besides the cost is high for a piece of foam. No one talks about the duct work itself. The 4" vents used don't let out that much air & are noisy. What I did at the end of the run (last vent at the front & back) I removed the vent, cut a hole big enough to put a regular house vent in. The ducts are about 3" x 8" so the size fits. This reduces the pressure in the ducts allowing increased airflow.
