    UPDATE (July 2021): We've had a few questions on the torque values we mention in the video.
    I got them from the RVAirflow document here: cdn.shopify.co...
    It cites Coleman manufacturing as the source…
    However, looking at www.airxcel.co... it just says, "Proper tension has been achieved for each bolt when any portion of each gasket indicating tab has been pulled down even with the roof. See Figure 4. The upper unit has now been properly installed with optimum gasket compression.”
    Our take: Use your best judgment. If the torque value seems too high, revert to the instructions from AirXCel.

    Our Jayco North Point has the whisper quit duct system. You don’t have that old school system in the ceiling. I’m sure Gran Design will start incorporating this system into production.
    That old system creates air turbulence.

    I just installed one in my Grand Design Imagine. The only difference is I used the same foil tape that you used to seal up the box to seal the back of the dump louvers. Now someone can’t make a mistake and open one and as I inspected them I suspect air would bypass through the louvers anyway because they don’t seal very well. Now it is sealed.

    You guys really need to check your Freon pressures after installation. When you have more air moving through the evaporator coil you are warming it up. The more heat you add the higher the pressures go up. The units for sure gonna be over charged. Your a/c compressors gonna burn out prematurely. I can’t believe Coleman said it’s ok to do this. They must not care how long there unit lasts. I’ve been a technician for 17 years now. You need to check your pressures

      OK...but my Coleman with the RV Airflow is almost though it's third summer and still performs extremely well. Airflow went from 8-9 mph to 18-20mph now. The airflow prior to the install had so many blockages I am surprised it didn't fail due to back pressures in the AC. Runs like it was designed to do now.

    When my ACs are on direct dump they put out a TON of air. When I close the dumps, I don't get much at all out of the vents. I'd be curious to see you compare your ACs direct dump volume to how much you get in total from your vents.

    My husband and I bought one of these and HOLY CRAP, way more cold air blowing out of our a/c, and it works more efficiently. Our a/c keep freezing up, prior to installing this, because cold air was leaking into the area where the temperature probe sensor thing is up inside the a/c unit. This summer... it never froze once!!! We live in Florida, so a well functioning a/c is a must. We highly recommend this product.

    I've made that mistake before :) stop the video at 12:20 and look at how he's pushing that razor toward his other hand. Building and drinking beer in the hot sun obviously isn't the best of situations, yet here we are. I was opening a pack of shingles sloppily on a decently slanted roof. Holding the pack with my left hand, keeping from sliding then trying to cut the plastic with my right. Well, I didn't realized I gashed myself until I went to pick up the hammer and it just slipped right out of my hand... turns out I was bleeding pretty good but didn't feel a damn thing :) I learned that day to never cut toward my body, always away. drunk or not :) JSWOA. but I still drink beer and do dumb stuff.

    This is good info...It is 105 in the shade here in Texas and my AC is purring like a kitten... I would like to add what I did to my Mach 3 coleman AC unit that made a night and day difference on my RV.... I stay out at the lake in the summer and live in my RV for 2 or 3 months out at the lake every summer, so I need my AC...I bought some regular o'l pipe foam insulation and put it on all the cold pipes between the Compressor and the condenser, covered the accumulator in 1/4 inch foam padding using 10" wire ties and glued the 1/4 inch foam pad onto the entire outside of my tin condenser box cover using spray adhesive. The water practically trickles out of the condenser now and the air is chill coming out of the AC vents. I also put a corrigated tin cover on a 2" X 2" wood frame with 2"X2"X2" wood spacers, over the AC unit. This creates a 3" air space over the AC unit and it is always in the shade , believe me when I tell you, it makes a big difference. Dont want to go into too much detail right now. Get some 1/4 X 20 4 inch long flat head bolts to screw it all back down... You can PM me for more info if you want.... Dave

So I noticed a huge difference just by popping those out

    If I have dometic thermostat on the wall to turn AC unit on, does that automatically mean I have dometic AC units? If so Air Flow makes two different kits for Dometic. How do you tell which dometic AC do I have! They make one kit to fit a dometic Penguin 2 or Atwood, and another kit for a dometic brisk air 2 or Evo or blizzard. I have AC in front bedroom and Rear garage area, both have dump vents.

    I didn't even know there was a middle piece in the AC duct area. After watching this video I opened up both of mine and sure enough that center divider had fallen over in each one. I put them back in place and now I have about a 50 percent improvement in airflow through my air ducts! Now I can close the dump vents for a cooler RV and it's quieter! I am definitely getting the RV airflow system and see how much more it will improve!

    Installed it before it got hot here in NE Ohio. Last year our Coleman A/C used to have to run almost continuously on high fan mode when the temps were in the 90's. And, we'd have to run the bedroom A/C to knock the temp down before bed. Now with this installed our A/C runs for a few minutes at a time, at low setting, on even the hottest days. And, we haven't had to run the bedroom A/C at all! Also, it now blows so hard-even on low setting-that it blows the dogs hair around while she's laying on the floor! Awsome product!

    1 Thing I did to my standard AC system not having these Air flow devices was put foil tape over the slider vent on the inside of the cover to keep it from vibrating open and rattling while the units are running. Nothing worse than a rattle while you are trying to watch TV, since those slide vents are now obsolete with the Air flow system it wouldn't hurt block them off, this will prevent accidental opening and recirculation of air back into your unit. My OCD for rattles and noises is always in full effect while driving a vehicle or in an RV, I will not rest until I find the rattle or squeak and have it fixed.

    Maybe adding a question you've already answered, but did you guys measure the actual temperature of the air coming out of your supply vents? You can pick up an infra-red thermometer like what they're using to check your forehead on Covid screening to measure it. One good way to measure the efficiency is to check the temperature of the air going into the unit, and the air going to the living space (supply air) , then measure the difference. You probably want to see between 14 and 22 degrees on A/C. The closer to 22 (or above) you are, the more efficiently the unit is working overall.

    • @SeaplaneSailor
      @SeaplaneSailor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't measured the temps, just the air speed from the vents. It went from 8-9 mph to 18-20mph and now my wife complains that "It's Too Cold". This product saved me from adding a second AC unit to my trailer. Best Mod I have ever made to my 4 year old Starcraft!

    to tighten down the 4 lag bolts the manufacture (Coleman) has gauge strips in the foam rubber seals for proper tightening. With this over prices piece of foam you can not use Coleman's method of proper AC lag bolt installation. Using 40 inch pounds with a 1 inch thick foam rubber seal I don't think so!

    • @SeaplaneSailor
      @SeaplaneSailor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Before I removed the 4 lag bolts I measured their lengths, as well as marking them with white paint. You are correct in stating that the foam insert blocks the view of the gauge strips, but only two of them. When reinstalling the lag bolts I did use a torque screw driver and set it at 40 pounds. It was soon obvious to me that 40 inch pounds was way too much: my foam gasket looked very compressed and the bolts that I could see were no where close to the measurements I made before removal. I loosened all 4 and re-tightened, watching the two gauge strips that I could see, and the marks on the bolts that I made before removal and the torque came out to be right at 20 inch pounds. The foam gasket looks like it did before I removed the bolts, and a check with a water hose confirmed there was no leakage. I plan on rechecking the bolts at least once a year.

Wife was complaining of the air blowing directly on her was "TOO COLD". Also noticed a difference in, when we had to run the A/C. Our bedroom AC has a whistle if you don't slightly open a dump vent. Press up the center of the bottom white cover a little (dumps closed) and whistle goes away. I think there's a deformity of the plastic a bit where the 2 meet and form that channel. Been meaning to devise a seal with thin closed cell foam tape.

    I modified my plenum to achieve the same result using foam board. It's not as nice looking, but since the part wouldn't fit my A/C I had no choice. Besides the cost is high for a piece of foam. No one talks about the duct work itself. The 4" vents used don't let out that much air & are noisy. What I did at the end of the run (last vent at the front & back) I removed the vent, cut a hole big enough to put a regular house vent in. The ducts are about 3" x 8" so the size fits. This reduces the pressure in the ducts allowing increased airflow.

    While my 5th wheel has ducted ac, only the front bedroom ac has a plenum accessible from the inside. The rear ac vents etc. for maintenance are only accessible from the inside of the ac unit (removal required). It’s a poor design for sure and I’m assuming I would only be able to use this on the front ac? Or is that a question best left to the manufacturer?

    How do I get the discount code? I have three air conditioners in my Grand Design 350M and after watching this video, I want to put this in all three units! Also, have y’all ever swapped the garage 13.5k BTU unit with the bedroom 15k BTU unit? The bedroom is a much smaller area and the 13.5k BTU unit is much quieter. Seems the swap while installing the RV Airflow unit would make good sense. Thanks!

    Although this won't fit my ac unit, your video did solve my cooling issue: I removed the air intake to measure the plenum and noticed that a piece of blocking insulation was tilted over, EXACTLY like yours was, causing much of my cool air to be recycled. I put it back correctly and it is cooling MUCH better now! Thank you, as I was getting ready to drop a grand on a new a/c unit. Cheers !

    It does eliminate any cooling air directly coming out of the AC unit as all air is then directed to the roof vents. That may raise sensible temp at the living area under the unit.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      perhaps.. but opening those dumps lowers the temp everywhere but directly under the AC... plus much of that energy is lost, being pulled right back into the AC... The feedback we've received and also what we've experienced is the heating and cooling with this kit is very much improved overall.
