Between the A/C unit and the occasional Generator noise we thought the only solution was to purchase a soundbar to hear the TV. This will at least solve one of our problems. Great video.
Hi Chad, I’m a retired HVAC contractor and watched this product video. Like you I had already installed the RV Airflow product and was amazed at the difference in air flow and a solution to not blocking more than 50% of the Coleman factory air filters. After watching this video I purchased two covers. While this Silencer product provides some noise reduction it has other shortcomings I am not impressed with. They provide only one foam filter instead of the two from the factory. While it’s not up against the intake louvers, I would argue it has less filter surface area that will require more servicing/cleaning. Such an important task for these units that is made much more difficult by having to unscrew this cover to inspect or clean the air filter. Don’t loose the screws. I look at this product and they could have built in a no tools solution for this task, but they didn’t. I also have a rather large gap between the cover and the ceiling with the cover at the end of the adjustment screw slot, so no more adjustment to put the cover closer. I wouldn’t recommend using this product unless one has already installed RV Airflow because of its restricted air flow that your testing acknowledged. Is it worth it to have a quieter system? Barely. I would replace it in a heartbeat if there was a product that overcame its shortcomings. You’ve had yours for a while. How is servicing the air filter? My product grades: RV Airflow - A+ The RV A/C Silencer - C-
I’ve had the Silencer for almost two years now. I didn’t do a DB test, but the lady and I aren’t having to repeat ourselves in conversation lol. It really works that well!! So much so, a fellow RVing friend was amazed at ours and bought one for their big 5th wheel. It’s awesome!
Last August, we downsized to a 2015 Winnebago Via (25" motorhome on a Sprinter chassis) with a Coleman Mach AC. I installed the Silencer before we even left the RV dealer's lot and I was impressed with the results. We haven't been out too much this year (health issues) but we just returned from a 3 day trip and the weather was hot and humid. In addition to the reduced noise, I'm impressed with how cold the output air is compared to the output of ac units we had on the two travel trailers we've owned over the years. I do think that for the best results, it's important to really seal up all the gaps and leaks with the aluminum taper as part of the installation process. I also think the silencer reduces the frequency range of the AC noise as to my ears, there is a reduction in the higher frequencies. The Silencer is a little pricey, but well worth the investment . If my rig had multiple AC units, I'd install one on each AC unit!
We too bought a single Wacko A/C silencer for our bedroom A/C to help us sleep with less noise; however, after installing the first silencer, we bought another Wacko silencer for our front A/C. These units are amazing.
FYI Chad - I am a retired Submarine Sonarman and what is taught to us is that a 3dB increase is roughly twice as loud. I actually taught Submarine noise reduction in New London, CT for 3 years during a shore tour in the early '90s. (Log is correct, not a linear scale - Ambient noise (AIR/Steel) is 10Log where - Submerged (Water) is 20Log.)
I am a Wi-Fi engineer and with Wi-Fi DB, I seem to remember that +2DB is double signal, But I could be completely wrong and maybe your 3DB is correct for the doubling!! Not sure how sound equates to Wi-Fi signal DB or if it does or at all
Thanks again for the invite to your presentation. We sure miss the rest of your family when they are not included in the video's. I too was pleasantly surprised with the outcome as well, duly noted.
I installed the RV Airflow a 8 months ago. I installed in a 2007 Monaco Knight Class A. Just a note, they didn't have one for my rig but one close. When I ordered, they got a hold of me, and questioned my measurements, because they didn't line up with the one I ordered. I told them what I have, and they said good to know. We have to do a modification to the product, before we send it so it will fit correctly. I got it and it worked great. So note to others, if they don't have one exactly for your rig AND AC, get a hold of them first, they probably can modify one for you.
A 100 to one power ratio is 20 dB, etc. Doubling/halving) the actual power is 3 dB (-3 dB). However, our hearing is more logarithmic and people will say that the sound “doubles” in loudness with 8-10 dB increase. Good job. Thanks for your scientific approach to all of your real life evaluations of products. Don
Thanks Chad for your experimental nature, it keep mere mortals like us from having to spend our hard-earned money to do the same thing. Keep the good stuff coming.
What’s your thoughts on this for something like a Winnebago EKKO? Also, thank you for joining our premier of Episode 1 of RVUNPLUGGED! We appreciate it! 🙏🏾🙏🏻❤️💙
@@ChangingLanes Our Winnebago Via is a small Sprinter chassis motorhome and the Silencer made a big difference. I'd recommend it for anyone with a smaller rig as you are in a smaller space and with a lower ceiling compared to larger trailers/motorhomes.
Chad thank you for this video. I was wondering if this was feasible and after watching the mods and the results I went out and bought the RV Airflow to add To my RV silencer and this is probably the best combination out there. I just did the A/C mod on My Keystone Cougar and the airflow is amazing!! Thanks again! Camping this week so we will see what happens and if I can turn the camper into a meat locker!!
Thank you for making this video, I've wondered about using one or the other, or both. One thing I'd have liked to have seen is if the RV Airflow on its own did anything to lower noise on its own from stock. Over the weekend I installed only the Silencer, and we noticed a dramatic airflow increase over our stock intake - Coleman Mach (not shallow) in a Rockwood Ultra Light. I did not use any measurements like you did, but we tested by hand before and after the install. Also, once I finished the install and turned on the A/C unit, a lot of debris that was in the ducts from the factory came blowing out, so this was a pretty clear indicator the airflow was increased. I did take a significant amount of time ensuring everything was sealed just as Wacko does in their install video, so this almost certainly had some effect on the airflow once completed. Now we can watch TV while the A/C is on, something that was very difficult to do before.
Chad, this IS ONE OF YOUR BEST SO FAR. Keep UP THE GOOD WORK!, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, (YEAH WHAT DO I KNOW?), We tow a 30'pull-behind trailer with 0ne AC unit. Since watching your video, I feel like I could actually take on this job. I realize the results may vary, as they always do! Thanks for your attention to detail. Our AC unit is ducted through the ceiling. The unit can also exit through the AC unit itself. Personally, I prefer going through the duct work, since it is so much quieter. By the way, great modification to your air flow meter!!
Thanks Chad, after watching your video a while back, We did give the RV Airflow a try in our 5th wheel. The difference was amazing! On the hotter days our AC struggled but the comfort level improved.
We installed one of the original RV Airflow units in our 2021 Primetime Avenger 27RBS a couple of years ago. Since the single Coleman Mach 20K AC unit is right above the the entertainment center it made watching TV or listening to music strained at best. The noise reduction was dramatic and the A/C unit performed better to boot. Love this product! Nice to see you agree and the product is consistent among various installations. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks Chad! Your tests help me spend money.😂 I find all your videos well done and thanks to you both, I know the editing takes time. Keep them coming!
Chad, Love your informative videos and what you have found out their for Rv'ing in campers. We have added a lot of things you have reviewed in our little Pinecrest 335 RLP. Just ordered the RVAir too. Many thanks for all you do and the hard work in video production. Congratulations on all your new and T's new toys....best of luck to you guys in 2023.
Ordered three using your link; appreciate you providing us these install/test videos. Also just finished replacing my plastic water heater connections with brass based on your (others) previous videos. Congratulations on your new Momentum; she is big and beautiful. 🙂
Chad, Thanks for making this video and for the thorough test you did, it was very informative and I will be ordering both products for our two AC units. TP
I got the AC silencer for my dometic ACs in my 397th. I added some sound absorbing mat (for car audio applications) and it knocked the sound down about 3 more dB in addition to what the silencer did by itself. Also, the filter assembly is much better with the AC silencer than the horrible dometic filter setup.
I'll have to go back to your RV Airflow video from before and see if I can get this in my TT. We have a single coleman mach 15k btu unit and I'd like to get better airflow to the duct in the front bedroom. The noise isn't so much of an issue at night, the kids seem to sleep better with the white noise. During the day however it does get annoying if we are hanging out inside for a meal or something like that.
Thank you for explaining that the sound dropping 7 db sounds to your ear like noise cut in half. I have been hesitant to buy the Wacko since the data does not show a significant drop in db.
I think I remember one reviewer stating that there is a change in the pitch of the air flow sound after the silencer and that the pitch / tone is a bit more comfortable adding to the actual dB reduction in sound making it overall feel greater than what the meter is telling you.
Audio engineer here. Decibels are indeed weird. 6dB is a doubling of sound pressure. But because our ears have such a wide dynamic range, it is generally thought that we perceive 10dB as a doubling.
I believe even my Transcend came with the RVairflow already installed but the silencer sounds like it might be worthwhile. I do think since you lose the dump I might not do it until we get a Maxx fan put in.
Hi Chad, my wife and I live in St. Mary's county, Md. We have been looking at 5th wheel RV's for about a month now. We have finally narrowed it down to the Solitude 382wb. Our intention is to go to the RV super show in Harrisburg, Pa. On the 13th thru the 15th of September to make our final decision and order. I have been following your video's since we started our quest and find you info and advice amazing. My question to you is we looked at the Montana very hard before we ended up thinking the Solitude was a better fit. It comes standard with the Colman Mach A/C unit with a residential style 12x12 air filter that I really like but I can't seem to find anything for a conversion kit for the Solitude inside grill. Let me also say I was told the Solitude used the same Coleman mach A/C units. Have you heard of a conversion kit? Thanks for any help you can give us. Rick Gray
Great video. The rv silencer website says increased air flow. Unless I did not see it correctly your test showed decrease air flow. I wonder if this emulates a blocked duct or can this reduction of air flow have long term effects on these small coleman machs. I think the silence would be golden but good air flow in warm climates like the results of the rv air flow works with the system not against it like the silencer in my opinion. I could be wrong but these are non commercial units designed to function as is to obtain a good service life.
Great and informative video. We actually know and are friends of the RV Airflow product owners. We have the Air Flow in both our air conditioners in our Renegade Super C. I shared your video with the RV Air Flow owners. 😉. We are patiently waiting for their silencing product to be available….someday.
Chad, I hate you!!! LOL. Now I have to order something else for the 5th wheel. One other note, and given your rig and you may already have something similar to easy start. When I added easy start to my TT, I noticed a definite noise level reduction coming off the compressor, even when running. No measurement available, but I could hear a difference. I've installed the RV airflow in the 5th wheel, and it had a noticeable air flow improvement. I'm going to be installing easy start on the main AC in a few weeks, and guess I'm going to order the Silencer too.
Sorry I meant to say some traveling in the new RV. The wife wants to see how Tara decorated the new rig. Also very curious on any of the modifications Grand Designs made to it from your input. Keep it up guys.
Great video. We have the RvAirflow and love how well it works. A huge plus was how much quieter it runs vs stock. It would be cool to see the dB change of just the RvAirflow over the stock system and compare that to the silencer. Does it quiet just as much? Also maybe a future video idea is a comparison of the RvAirflow vs the DIY airflow hack. The DIYers claim its just as good but only $15 in materials. Imo the RvAirflow looks designed better. Would be cool to see if it's worth the price difference.
RVAirflow claims 3dB improvement. We didn't notice a big improvement in sound in our last RV wtih just RVAirFlow... The other thing about the DIY versions is regular styrofoam can hold and allow mold and bacteria to grow. RVAF uses a special kind of high density foam: "The RV Airflow System is manufactured from 3lb Expanded Polystrene (EPS), the highest density available. It is highly durable, temperature and water resistant and prevents bacteria and mold growth. It contains no CFC, HCFC or HFC blowing agents or formaldehyde, is chemically inert so it does not produce methane gas or any contaminating leachates and is 100% recyclable! "
I wonder how much of a noise reduction you would get by installing the thermotec Super Sonic Acoustical Mat to the inside of the white cover of the silencer?
I am a little late but followed the link and tried the discount code for the Wacko and it doesn't work! Is there a update for the code or no longer available? Thanks
Filtering the decibel reading by frequency is helpful. Certain mid range frequencies are irritating, (opinion only), similar to certain lower frequency hum sounds.
Curious what the pressure difference would be with rv airflow and not the silencer. Does the silencer restrict airflow significantly with RV airflow installed?
I'm sorry. I couldn't hit the like button when you asked. It was already checked. But if I could have, I would have spent a week's worth of likes on this. Great video.
Great info. I would be concerned about the silencer causing the unit to have to work a little harder. Long term implications thoughts? You said it redirects the airflow and your silencer data showed that it is truly "choking" the system slightly. Maybe it is a small enough change there will be no additional strain put on the system to cause a shorter life span or other problems. Thanks for the data. Love the channel.
I think technically that must be true. But I'm sure the fan motors are designed with a large range as the inflow/outflow parameters can change dramatically just by opening the dump vents, closing AC vents, etc.
@@ChangingLanes But the improvement in the airflow (volume & temperature) may result in less operation time. Base on the airflow out of our duct work, I really don't have a concern. I would suggest that anyone installing the Silencer to be diligent about maintaining their AC unit for optimal performance.
Chad, great video, and thanks for putting the numbers together for this. In your last rig, you installed the domes inside the duct work I believe. Do you plan to do that in the 410th?
We bought RV Airflow after your last video on it for our 2020 380FL. Last fall we bought the RV AC Silencer for our main AC, and like you we found the decibel drop was measurable. We did not buy one for our bedroom AC, that one doesn't have the noise that bothers us as much as the one over our head for the TV. Great job gathering the data!! PS: Is it me, or is Chads audio a little choppy in this video?
I have the rv air flow installed on my main ac. Many people say that this means the dump feature is disabled but when I open my dump vents, strong air flow comes straight down and stops coming out of the ceiling vents. When I close them, air comes out of all ceiling vents including bath and bedroom. Is it not installed right or am I getting misinformation?
Can you do a video on getting maintenance done the most economically - for both Low Income (RV life to have low cost of living) and Disabled (so you can not physically do it yourself)?
Great video Chad. Kinda off the subject but just heard on the radio that catalytic converter theft is up 1200%. Would love to see a video on ways to prevent this theft on RVs and tow vehicles.
RV Silencer only gives a $10 off for Military Discount and NOT 10%. Not sure what the discount is if I order via your link. Any idea? RV Air Flow gives 15% for Military Discount.
WE have a 2021 Grand Design 320MKS we bought new with the second A/C in the bedroom, the main A/C came with an A/C air Flow, but the other one didn't, did your new trailer come with one in each A/C?
I think technically that must be true. But I'm sure the fam motors are designed with a large range as the inflow/outflow parameters can change dramatically just by opening the dump vents, closing AC vents, etc.
🤣🤣🤣 I think Chad only knows IKEA furniture instructions from sitting around the campfire & listening to others saying how easy it is. None of them will ever release/post the full video they made of the assembly process tho, cos it has to many errors that could jeopardize their DIY status 🤣🤣🤣
What was the office airflow increase with the RV Airflow installed and NO sound AC Silencer? It seems that if you are interested in just airflow increase, you should not use the AC Silencer? Thoughts
The manufactures should install these because the noise from the ac is ridiculous! As pricey rv's are, it needs to be standard. I have to blast the tv volume just to hear the sound.
Chad and Tara, what do you think and how are you going to deal with the new “law” that requires TH-camrs and others to obtain a permit to film in national parks? I have heard the permit and other fees could reach 500 per park. You are not guaranteed a permit and the permit fee is non refundable. I personally think it’s a money grab by the government.
If both of these products work (the apparently do) then why doesn't the AC manufacturer build the their units with the same modifications??? One would think they wanted to build the best quality product they could.
That could be said about every RV upgrade out there.. but, where' would one draw the line? Sure, every upgrade and improvement could be stock.. but, it would be reflected in the price and not everyone needs every upgrade.
Between the A/C unit and the occasional Generator noise we thought the only solution was to purchase a soundbar to hear the TV. This will at least solve one of our problems. Great video.

Rick Gray
As always, great video, thanks for all the great content. 👍
Great video again! Two solid upgrades
Very well done and informative tests. Thank you for the good, reliable information. Love your channel!
I think this varies from RV to RV. I installed just the silencer on my RV over the weekend and airflow is dramatically increased through the ducts.
I would expect the DIY version of RVAF in conjunction with the RV Silencer would equate the same results as your findings
Awesome video
Wow that’s great! Thank you very much.
Love your videos and we’re patiently waiting for some new videos on the new RV. But cmon already hahah.
This is in the new RV.... ?
@@crj5631 any video link for DIY install?
Great video as always
No comment on this video. Just wandering what you use for a wheel chock for your bike.

I wonder how much of a noise reduction you would get by installing the thermotec Super Sonic Acoustical Mat to the inside of the white cover of the silencer?
Chad --- 2023 32' 2670mk by grand design. 2 A/C units - plan to install both products on one on the units. Which product gets installed first?
You can do both at the same time, but the RVAirflow will go in first, then the Silencer. 👍🏼
Dude, you're my kind of nerd!
Awesome, thank you so much!!!!
OH MY GOD… Great video
Chad, great video, and thanks for putting the numbers together for this. In your last rig, you installed the domes inside the duct work I believe. Do you plan to do that in the 410th?
There might be a new product to replace that "vent nubby" soon. So, we're waiting on that.
I was just getting over Covid and my voice kept getting garbled.. maybe that was it..
@@ChangingLanes Maybe? It kinda sounded more like digital clipping/encoding.
I have 2 1500 A/Cs both have heat pumps however they are on a track system. I’m waiting for a solution.
Good information
Can you do a video on getting maintenance done the most economically - for both Low Income (RV life to have low cost of living) and Disabled (so you can not physically do it yourself)?
A mobile tech is your best bet if unable to get on the roof for maintenance.
Great video Chad. Kinda off the subject but just heard on the radio that catalytic converter theft is up 1200%. Would love to see a video on ways to prevent this theft on RVs and tow vehicles.
Tow vehicles don't have engines; therefore they wouldn't have a catalytic converter.
lead accelerator?
RV Silencer only gives a $10 off for Military Discount and NOT 10%. Not sure what the discount is if I order via your link. Any idea? RV Air Flow gives 15% for Military Discount.
Thanks it
Good content. I don't have any noise issues, I just take my hearing aids out. Lol
Hay Chad
I think you might have been hacked
I had someone with your logo wanting me to call them a 190 area code
WE have a 2021 Grand Design 320MKS we bought new with the second A/C in the bedroom, the main A/C came with an A/C air Flow, but the other one didn't, did your new trailer come with one in each A/C?
Just the middle (main) AC had it preinstalled.
Would have been cool to see the airflow increase with RVAF only in the office for measurement comparison.
See out RVAirflow video... th-cam.com/video/V9rEQb05Qv4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for doing this video. How do I get your discount?
RV AC Silencer: changinglanesrv.com/rvacsilencer (no discount code)
RV AirFlow (use code CHANGINGLANES for 15% OFF): changinglanesrv.com/rvairflow
Chad, Which app did you use with your cell phone for the SPL meter? - Thanks! - Cheers!
Decibel X (paid version)
Chad, how are using a free app and not a true db meter? All the Klein and Fluke tools it seems like this s needed!!
We paid for the Decibel X app and I feel it's sufficient for differential testing.
Hey Chad: It looked like the silencer eliminated the two dump vents. Is that true?
Yes. Both products do that...
So if the silencer decreases flow, does it add strain to the motor/system?
I think technically that must be true. But I'm sure the fam motors are designed with a large range as the inflow/outflow parameters can change dramatically just by opening the dump vents, closing AC vents, etc.
Are there any codes for the silencer?
Sorry, no discount code on the silencer. ☹️
I don’t think you realize how difficult IKEA instructions are to read. 😂🤣😂. I may look into these products for our RV.
Thoughts
We tested the RVAirflow by itself very thoroughly in our other video (th-cam.com/video/V9rEQb05Qv4/w-d-xo.html).
The manufactures should install these because the noise from the ac is ridiculous! As pricey rv's are, it needs to be standard. I have to blast the tv volume just to hear the sound.
What app did you loose?
Decibel X
Chad and Tara, what do you think and how are you going to deal with the new “law” that requires TH-camrs and others to obtain a permit to film in national parks? I have heard the permit and other fees could reach 500 per park. You are not guaranteed a permit and the permit fee is non refundable. I personally think it’s a money grab by the government.
We're hoping someone challenges that regulation.

I can’t put together IKEA furniture
