Like the game or not (which I happen to love, just for the record), there is absolutely no denying the epicness of this score. Every time I come to a boss with this theme, I crank up the speakers and just sit and watch Rush standing, with sword drawn, waiting for me to give him the go ahead with the press of a button.
I liked it, but it felt like it missed something. I feel like I never clicked with the story, scenarios or the characters. It was not bad, but being used to stories like Final Fantasy puts it very difficult for it to rival. Gameplay was 10/10.
I agree with every fiber of my being. I loved the feeling of, even when you had really awesome gear, every time the boss attacked you just had that feeling of dread that it was going to kill you.
The only turn based RPG to ever make me stand up to play it and steady my breathing, the OG Xbox360 version, where you only got a total of 6 captains for all your unions. The bosses were long, grueling, hard fights, especially the gates of hell and the 6 base battles, reinforcements after reinforcements spawning in, your kill count getting into the triple digits, they felt big army vs army battles.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has some awesome music though too, and that game only just came out in December IIRC. Namely the "Counterattack", "Awakening", "Incoming!", "Zeke's Theme", and the "Torna Battle" themes are the stand-outs IMO.
Ys series Trails series Atelier series SaGa series And every Tales game before Arise use rock music in their battle themes. I didn't count Arise because that game's OST is generic blockbuster orchestra dogshit.
Oh yea...GREAT battle system where you're practically encouraged to keep your rank down, you have little control over your squads, and most of the units you've access to are straight garbage

You group people together based on their strengths and personalities, give them general orders and trust them to do their best. If you don't like the gameplay, I'm not sure why you've been playing the game for years.
@@alpharabbit2353 i never payed any attention to my BR or stats my first playthrough and ended up completely overpowered by only a little bit of grinding of the large birds in the desert. by the time i actually understood the combat system, maybe 20% through the game, i had enough options open to me, and enough of an "ai" created through previous actions that i could almost always cast exactly what i wanted. by manually switching low ranked skills and spells off, i was able to make it so i never wasted time on random garbage popping up. the "units themselves" as you put it, change as you use them and develop a very good choice of what is the best option available, with several alternative, and the ever present "do whatever the fuck you want" which is only useful at end game. if youre being a moron, and leaving EVERY FUCKING SKILL AND SPELL YOU LEARN open for use, then yes. your AI will throw up a bunch of garbage, because you gave it a list of some 60+ possible actions per turn. on each character. you can easily control who you use things on. thats what pushing left and right on the d-pad does. it changes the target. buffs target the entire team, the same with debuffs. individual targetting of single unit attacks is done based on your formation, and a characters physical proximity to the enemies based on their formation, and how you encounter them (front, flanks, rear). the selection is never done poorly by the AI, any damage you deal to 1 unit in the party that goes over its health will still carry on fully to the total party hp value, though the same is not true for enemy attacks against you, and the ai will automatically switch specific targets if its previous was killed. im not really sure why youre bitching, but clearly you try to overthink the game. pick what looks like the best weapon and skillset to you, pick whatever fucking formation you want, and just command the battle. let the game flow naturally, instead of trying to micormanage everything, and the game works great. try gaming the system like you wanna do, and the game has shit built in it to fight against you and make it a worse experience. remember: the guy who made this is the guy who made the shitty saga series.
Lol! The first time I fought the gates of hell, like an idiot, I let Rush's Clay Idol Remnant die, and the gate immediately revived, and charmed it. Needless to say resistance was futile.
@hilario flores Oh yea, I remember White Conquerer. Also, I lost to a damn epic beast, but I forgot what its name was. It kills you just the same if you take too many turns. In the end, I beat everything in the game though and got too op for anything.
@Game2Win It really do be like that. To be fair, I had to go and defeat The Seven and recruit the twins Hinnah and Hannah before I could beat it. It's a hellish dps rush, that requires your squads to be as tanky as possible, while still going full offense. You're going to lose squads, but if you dps it enough and spam morale boosts, you just might be able to kill it with special weapon arts and remnants. Defeating The Lost on hardmode without morale boosting arts is damn near impossible, because not only does it deal more damage but you deal less and get less special attack procs. If you're morale is almost empty, then you'll probably have squads getting one-shot by a single aoe attack. The key is to keep your morale high and pray for special weapon arts to decimate it. It also helps to have one squad dedicated to healing 24/7. On hardmode, I defeated the fiery idol with only Rush, shield of the vanquisher and a hawkawrang, so anything is possible. If you don't have rush with a 1h weapon and a shield, I'd recommend getting shield of the vanquisher asap for op tanking. You really only need 3 dps squads, a healing squad, and a tanking squad with high speed so that they always engage first. I tried The Last Remnant with 2h weapon Rush, but it was a struggle. Demonblade is nice and all, but the dps gain isn't worth getting one-shot by Milton and other overdrive users.
On consoles it had pretty big slowdown issues in battles because the consoles at the time actually couldn't completely handle the on-screen action. On PC the problem is pretty much non-existent. It also has one of the most unique combat systems (in a good way!) I've ever experienced. While it's fairly old now, if you haven't played it and you can get it on PC, I'd say it's more than worth giving it a playthrough. And quite a few of the bosses are legitimately *HARD* to beat as well, so it will absolutely put you to the test, and this includes some of the mandatory story bosses. In general, anytime this boss theme starts, you're likely in for a really rough fight.
I fought the Gates of Hell twice, and won the second time. I only had three units in each union at the time, but at least one unit in each union knew how to revive. The first time pandemonium got my strongest team so they went around killing everyone. When I'm fighting a boss, I take it easy the first time and watch what the boss does, then I kill them the second time!
Besides the nest of eagles this is the real true challenge you will face in the game. If you can beat these 3 bosses no problem you'll possibly be fine later in the game.

The gameplay mechanics are indeed amazing...but with a massive caveat that you need to actually do a shitton of reading to understand them, the game unintuitively punishes grinding ("oh, high BR? Excuse me while I just blow your party sky high"), and it's ridiculously easy to miss vital parts of the game. I believe if you miss some sort of sidequest pre-timeskip, you can't even access the ancient ruins, while some optional boss monsters only have a chance to spawn. The saving graces this game had was the gameplay for experienced players, and the OST is second to none. Beyond that, the plot was threadbare, and half the game's WORLD was a bunch of sidequests that break the plot progression. Make no mistake, the music is fucking nuts, the battle system is thought out VERY well, but those two aspects would be much better served by being in a game with a much better-handled story.

That doesn't make it NOT under appreciated.

I played it and enjoyed it most of the time. I absolutely hated the RNG leveling up and battle system. With a better battle system it would have been amazing. I got near the end and to one of the special bosses (in a forest iirc) and the RNG "tactics" just made me put it down and I never finished it. I put this game under the wasted potential category.
Yeah this boss fight made me want to jump out my window, it was soooooooo hard. The sound tracks for this boss and there's one other that i love....i think it's called "out of control" not sure though. Easily my favorite songs in the game as they just keep me pumped.
the game is simple. just fight every monster you see and see again till you reach your destinations and try to get all secrets and ironically, you will beat all bosses battles. there is no such thing as wasting your time fighting because it pays off in the end especially if you take on the side bar missions. my favorite was putting the clothes on the guy mission to see what he becomes.
Grałem w tę grę na X boxie . Mój BR 19 i 3 drużyny z HP 2800-3100 . Maxowałem postecie na walkach w blackdale z vulture pomiędzy BR 6-15 potem z Zi Bai rare monster. Walka z the gates jest prosta ,walka z Jagerem jeszcze prostsza. P.S. The Lost można pokonac w jedną runde na BR 100+ , 4 wepon arts i po sprawie Cademon i Thorgal z str 139 i 125 wymiatają .
Ryan D. I remember beating it after struggling only to have my game freeze in the cut scene after. So frustrated i stopped playing for a week i believe lmao. I remember i randomly went back and beat it first try no problem.
Coming from some one who has actually beat this game, all of you that are thinking about playn this. Please not that this game is boring at first but will grow on you as you progress. Also, the boss battles will make you want to break your 360 so be warned.
Same happened when i summoned my cyclops, then just watching it go up and tank gates of hell added more to the increasing awesome. Shame the boss was such a bugger to kill though, i tried at least 100 times to kill it.
I just googled it to see how much I could get an xbox and a copy for. Needless to say I freaked the fuck out when I heard it was already available on ps4! I'm downloading it now and I can't wait until it's ready. I'm gonna try beat the fallen boss at a low rank, I was like 119 when I done everything on 360
The way to go in this game is Axe/Shield. With the Ultimate Axe and the Ultimate Shield Rush is pretty much invincible, put him alone in his union and he will block/counter everything he can even solo the final boss without any trouble unless he get a cheap and rare *Auto KO* Which happend sometime when you are unlucky.
Cyclop is your life line and most of the damage usually gets dealt to him but once he's down the fight goes downhill. It took me several attempts to finally kill this boss, good luck to you guys :)
I love this game. Though it's a bit buried under technical issues and the flimsy story, there is so much fun to be had in the stradegy, music, and fighting.
I bought TLR and on the same day my sister bought IU and we watched each other play. They have similar characters sometimes yes but really, what game doesnt? Next, Yes they both are Square Enix and theyre game plays are very very different. TLR is strategy while IU is more like Star Ocean, just with an open-battlefield system.
i remember that i liked this track a lot so i didn't mind dying to this boss the first couple times just so i could hear it again, the next 5 deaths was when i started to get pissed
well this game is very very different kind of RPG level up style because if you have a low BR and start beating hard boss like gates of hell your stats for each characters grows big and gets more stronger and easier to beat bosses
I was not talking bad about the game (Please note that this game is boring at first but will grow on you as you progress) That was a compliment. I said "the boss battles will make you want to break your 360 so be warned" because I wanted people to know it was challenging
The gates of hell were fun because there are 4 sides to fight on and every side gives you the strongest weapons for your main characters. My favorite was the new and improved cannon. Strongest weapons in the game besides the main characters weapon.
I still remember when I first got this game back when I was in high school. The game play is great, the soundtrack is beautiful (this is probably one of my favorites) and some of the bosses, damn they are a little challenging. But fun!
this tune is my favourite tune and everyone the best way to kill the gates of hell quickly is to use combat arts and to have to katana swords but the number one rule is to train loads before fighting it and then u will ave a chance plus at the start of the game have baulson in rush‘s union as he will become a really good ally trust me he is brilliant
I recently over leveled before this boss and managed to make the battle last only a few minutes. Now the first time I played this game in 08 it took a week before I killed gates of hell.
NO ONE who hasnt played this game knows how fucking difficult this boss is if you're not prepared for it. I WAS STUCK FOR TWO WEEKS. I was almost battle rank 100, too. (I didnt realize until right before the final boss that Battle Rank hurt you. XD)
thats an extremely high BR for this fight though. its very likely at this point in the game you wont have any skills that revive dead party members, or if so only on 1-2 people, making the bullshit attack i forget the name of a literal death sentence that loses you the entire fight. the issue is not with HIS strength, the issue is with him taking your party from you and using it against you. and your parties are far more lethal than the boss.

Boss stuff aside. I really wish the guitar at 1:15 lasted longer, best part of the tune. Was even more epic for me because I summoned the Cyclops around the time that segment of the track played :3
@@Enclosure_2k Also the 360 version had a LOT of technical issue leaving a bad taste for many players, they were corrected with the PC (and now PS4) release (as well as improving the gameplay and add content) but the 360 version leave a bad taste for many players.

Everyone has their own opinion and my opinion its a nice fun challenge game because RPG games are meant to be patient if you are not patient on RPG games than don't play it but that doesn't mean you should just say something bad bout a game people haven't play or know about
Died hear too. Its a problem when your forces turn on one another... I had to do this shit 3 times. Attempt 1 - died, Attempt 2 - Beat him then dying in follow fights, Attempt 3 beat them all and then I SAVED MY GAME!

Infinite Undiscovery was a grotesque abomination that should NEVER have gotten the greenlight and will forever shame Tri-Ace (whom I still love dearly). I hope they make a sequel to Resonance of Fate (aka End of Eternity) as SEGA said they wanted to commission it as a new series. On topic: this is one of my fav boss battle themes ever.
Toughest boss in the whole game for me because it's attacks are very powerful and target everyone in the surrounding area. Best way to beat this guy is to have 3 unions for max HP so you can withstand his attacks to some degree. Worst case scenario is having a union Enthralled (Under bosses control), you do get the option to snap them out of it. One hit usually does the trick and then you simply need to revive the fallen union. Hate to admit it but luck is a factor in this fight :(
My strategy: multideadlock it with 2 unions+ cyclops, then flank attack it with my damage dealer union to hell.(Once you flank it, you'll get the option all the time, its in pc version btw.)
The boss was easy... I had a Mage group, a healer group and two offensive groups that were tanky and had alot of dps output... so taking the gate was easy as long as I had my healer group and my long range mage group. oh and no one can forget the first appearance of the cyclops! that thing was bad ass...
i didnt think that nest of eagles was that hard, i got gae bolg, omnistrike and ex machina popping up all the time, it took out the less powerful groups really quick and then just spammed the main boss with it, i was around BR 27 at the time so it was probably more luck than anything, but getting up to gates of hell with such a low battle rank meant i got owned instantly, eventually i started a new game, leveled like mad, got decent equipment, and finally beat it.
how shit is that i have replayed this game twice but i will never play it a third time twice is good enough for me besides i find darksiders and deadrising 2 is insane to me there fucking totaly hardcore and i love it lol
The Theme of thinking you are good at this game when you win this fight but then get immediately smashed by Lob Omen and Jager.
Honnestly think this fight was harder, definitly the wake up call of this game for me.
I loved it when the music at 1:14 kicked in JUST as Cyclops was coming out of the ground, truly a magical moment...

Severely underrated Square game ❤ if only it we're not Xbox exclusive for the longest time before it's PC revamp...
Trough this kind of game OSTs I learned that the violin is EPIC.

I played it and enjoyed it most of the time. I absolutely hated the RNG leveling up and battle system. With a better battle system it would have been amazing. I got near the end and to one of the special bosses (in a forest iirc) and the RNG "tactics" just made me put it down and I never finished it. I put this game under the wasted potential category.

Yeah this boss fight made me want to jump out my window, it was soooooooo hard. The sound tracks for this boss and there's one other that i love....i think it's called "out of control" not sure though. Easily my favorite songs in the game as they just keep me pumped.

hard not to air guitar when the solo part comes in
the game is simple. just fight every monster you see and see again till you reach your destinations and try to get all secrets and ironically, you will beat all bosses battles. there is no such thing as wasting your time fighting because it pays off in the end especially if you take on the side bar missions. my favorite was putting the clothes on the guy mission to see what he becomes.

The Lost można pokonac w jedną runde na BR 100+ , 4 wepon arts i po sprawie Cademon i Thorgal z str 139 i 125 wymiatają .

Coming from some one who has actually beat this game, all of you that are thinking about playn this. Please not that this game is boring at first but will grow on you as you progress. Also, the boss battles will make you want to break your 360 so be warned.
Same happened when i summoned my cyclops, then just watching it go up and tank gates of hell added more to the increasing awesome. Shame the boss was such a bugger to kill though, i tried at least 100 times to kill it.

The way to go in this game is Axe/Shield.
With the Ultimate Axe and the Ultimate Shield Rush is pretty much invincible, put him alone in his union and he will block/counter everything he can even solo the final boss without any trouble unless he get a cheap and rare *Auto KO* Which happend sometime when you are unlucky.

Cyclop is your life line and most of the damage usually gets dealt to him but once he's down the fight goes downhill.
It took me several attempts to finally kill this boss, good luck to you guys :)
The problem was to equip your party members, and the short main story.

I love this game. Though it's a bit buried under technical issues and the flimsy story, there is so much fun to be had in the stradegy, music, and fighting.

I bought TLR and on the same day my sister bought IU and we watched each other play. They have similar characters sometimes yes but really, what game doesnt? Next, Yes they both are Square Enix and theyre game plays are very very different. TLR is strategy while IU is more like Star Ocean, just with an open-battlefield system.
i remember that i liked this track a lot so i didn't mind dying to this boss the first couple times just so i could hear it again, the next 5 deaths was when i started to get pissed

well this game is very very different kind of RPG level up style because if you have a low BR and start beating hard boss like gates of hell your stats for each characters grows big and gets more stronger and easier to beat bosses

The gates of hell were fun because there are 4 sides to fight on and every side gives you the strongest weapons for your main characters. My favorite was the new and improved cannon. Strongest weapons in the game besides the main characters weapon.

I still remember when I first got this game back when I was in high school. The game play is great, the soundtrack is beautiful (this is probably one of my favorites) and some of the bosses, damn they are a little challenging. But fun!
this tune is my favourite tune and everyone the best way to kill the gates of hell quickly is to use combat arts and to have to katana swords but the number one rule is to train loads before fighting it and then u will ave a chance plus at the start of the game have baulson in rush‘s union as he will become a really good ally trust me he is brilliant

I recently over leveled before this boss and managed to make the battle last only a few minutes. Now the first time I played this game in 08 it took a week before I killed gates of hell.
The item upgrade system and looking for rare monsters and items was a pain. At least it was not mandatory.
NO ONE who hasnt played this game knows how fucking difficult this boss is if you're not prepared for it.

(I didnt realize until right before the final boss that Battle Rank hurt you. XD)
+Evan Czarkowski Wiki page says Gates of Hell stops scaling past BR 51.
thats an extremely high BR for this fight though. its very likely at this point in the game you wont have any skills that revive dead party members, or if so only on 1-2 people, making the bullshit attack i forget the name of a literal death sentence that loses you the entire fight. the issue is not with HIS strength, the issue is with him taking your party from you and using it against you. and your parties are far more lethal than the boss.

Always let at least 1 or 2 healing capable unions act on their own when fighting multi-attack bosses. They will heal between the attacks.
Get a revive on every union, 1 with exvocations, immediately target turned allies and keep cycling out for healing
Boss stuff aside. I really wish the guitar at 1:15 lasted longer, best part of the tune. Was even more epic for me because I summoned the Cyclops around the time that segment of the track played :3

@@Enclosure_2k Also the 360 version had a LOT of technical issue leaving a bad taste for many players, they were corrected with the PC (and now PS4) release (as well as improving the gameplay and add content) but the 360 version leave a bad taste for many players.
Everything is better than FFXV.

Everyone has their own opinion and my opinion its a nice fun challenge game because RPG games are meant to be patient if you are not patient on RPG games than don't play it but that doesn't mean you should just say something bad bout a game people haven't play or know about

Died hear too. Its a problem when your forces turn on one another... I had to do this shit 3 times. Attempt 1 - died, Attempt 2 - Beat him then dying in follow fights, Attempt 3 beat them all and then I SAVED MY GAME!
I love how this game has either die-hard fans, or die-hard haters XD. With haters being just those who didnt bother to learn how it actually works.

Infinite Undiscovery was a grotesque abomination that should NEVER have gotten the greenlight and will forever shame Tri-Ace (whom I still love dearly). I hope they make a sequel to Resonance of Fate (aka End of Eternity) as SEGA said they wanted to commission it as a new series.

Toughest boss in the whole game for me because it's attacks are very powerful and target everyone in the surrounding area.
Best way to beat this guy is to have 3 unions for max HP so you can withstand his attacks to some degree. Worst case scenario is having a union Enthralled (Under bosses control), you do get the option to snap them out of it. One hit usually does the trick and then you simply need to revive the fallen union.
Hate to admit it but luck is a factor in this fight :(

My strategy: multideadlock it with 2 unions+ cyclops, then flank attack it with my damage dealer union to hell.(Once you flank it, you'll get the option all the time, its in pc version btw.)
As soon as this starts playing you know you're f*cked.
The boss was easy... I had a Mage group, a healer group and two offensive groups that were tanky and had alot of dps output... so taking the gate was easy as long as I had my healer group and my long range mage group. oh and no one can forget the first appearance of the cyclops! that thing was bad ass...
i didnt think that nest of eagles was that hard, i got gae bolg, omnistrike and ex machina popping up all the time, it took out the less powerful groups really quick and then just spammed the main boss with it, i was around BR 27 at the time so it was probably more luck than anything, but getting up to gates of hell with such a low battle rank meant i got owned instantly, eventually i started a new game, leveled like mad, got decent equipment, and finally beat it.
I lost a week to beat this guy only because i forgot to stock relaxing herbs.

how shit is that i have replayed this game twice but i will never play it a third time twice is good enough for me besides i find darksiders and deadrising 2 is insane to me there fucking totaly hardcore and i love it lol
