Man this song hits HARD when you're fighting the dragoon
when you get the stagger and just start fucking laying into the boss and then the music starts ramping up, like HOLY SHIT 🥶🥶
That music actually helped make the fight against him FUN, even though it was already enjoyable to begin with

Loved that part. It's also cool that they timed that where most player's will get to that part of the song when you hit the first qte of the fight. He gets stunned right after that, so it's cool cause that upbeat part of the song matches the moment where you're succeeding.
I enjoyed getting azuna dropped in the forest to this part 😂

I love how serious and playful this song is at the same time, it's like yeah there's a really tough battle and i got to treat it as if i could die at any moment but im still confident and cocky about winning, this games ost is crazy

I love that Soken has this down to a science, with the "stagger phase" portion of the song coming on about every 2 minutes, which makes it easier for the fight designers to make it fit into boss battles.
During the presentation he stated the music changes according to the battle. So if the staggers don’t happen as fast it will keep playing the normal song until it happens then it switches. It’s freaking genius!!!!!

This is exactly what final fantasy does, make normal boss themes sound like final boss themes
Needs to be something more operatic and dreadful sounding then switch to this when you start getting the upper hand and triumph.
@@Gomezli16Exactly. Final boss battles shouldn't start triumphantly. They should more or less follow sonata form. But depending on the plot, genre, etc., maybe you want it to start triumphantly, just not for the vast majority of games.

I remember thinking the same when I heard Sabre's Edge from XIII for the first time (especially as it builds up), but XVI is now on a whole other level. The tension and stress in the music sounds like it would be the end of the game!
This is just Incredible, there is so much emotion put on this track that it's even physically palpable
if you want to listen to more of soken's work i'd recommend checking out Finality and On Blade's Edge from endwalker, and also Torn From The Heavens if you like this track.

People often say "The best BGM is the type that you don't notice". But I always disagree with this. If you notice it then you KNOW it's caught your attention and it's good. This is exactly one of those moments.

I actually think that "The best BGM is the type that you don't notice" is one of the hottest bad VGM takes I've ever read in my opinion. The most legendary and memorable videogame music that sticks with you is always the most noticeable, the music that makes you come back to listen again after playing. Rather than the forgettable hollywood-esque/ambient music just to "fit in the game" that we get nowadays that 90% of the people don't even care.
Been gaming since Atari.... I've have never (that's not an exaggeration) heard/read anyone say/write "The best BGM is the type that you don't notice".
With that said... I 100% agree with with your point though lol. Music is either 2nd or 3rd most important thing to me in video games (after Gameplay, of course).
It highly depends on what you want to achieve. I lack the words to describe it, but I am fairly certain that in order to create atmosphere, there are areas for both: BGM that stands out, and BGM that doesn't.
Fighting a morbol has never been this epic ever before in FF.

i thought i mightve been overexcited last year with this game. i wasnt. i was correctly excited and correctly blurting out it was better than 7, better than 6, better than elden ring and better than bg3. ill shout it from the rooftops and i will not change my mind, nothing has ever emotionally sent me like this thing, its ridiculously good

This song feels like it's out of FFXII or FF tactics. It's got that grand, orchestra feel.
If the rumors are true that FF Tactics is getting a remake then I hope Soken gets to do a few tracks.
It also gives me some FFX vibes too! Some parts feel like one of the boss themes (particularly the parts early on when you're fighting Sin.) This is just spectacular!

This is so Final Fantasy, I'm literally in tears remembering my favorite Childhood FF games.
That goosebump when the 1st cinematic stab on the Morbol head. There may be alot of iconic big battle fight scene. But this is something else.
It's the first real sign of Clive's resilient spirit. A 15 year old kid is expected to go up against that monstrosity, and before he's swallowed up he dives straight in and snatches victory from the literal jaws of defeat.
I think that's why it's special, perfectly timed at 1:29 for that perfect cinematic music to highlight the moment

That was a badass move Clive did during the first QTE when he jumped way high then came down on the Morbol’s head with the sword strike, I really love that entire sequence so much

@@iaxacs3801I’ve listened to both. I’m generally not a big Soken fan. That said, 16 is the best I’ve heard from Soken. This is legit one of my favorite final fantasy soundtracks and I’m no casual listener.

It's truly amazing how the emotions of the music transition from one to another! 1:07 being self doubt, 1:16 being acceptance, and 1:42 being pure confidence.

Me being level 39 and the dragon is 50. This is where this song resonates with me the most. The longer the battle the more excited I get.

@@Devilich The top left corner of the screen tells you what Ring you currently have equipped: footage has equipped Ring of Timely Strikes, Ring of Timely Evasion, and Ring of Timely Healing. The game is playing itself so you have cool footage. (Auto-attack, Auto-Evade, and Auto-Healing).

That buildup at 1:34 is so good and then the payoff at 1:42 is such a battle theme, but also really subdued. Like it could be a dance or a waltz. And then I realized it is a waltz! It's in 3/4 time signature so it's mean to feel like a dance.
Most other ff themes have been in traditional 4/4. But with the focus on parrying, dodging, timing your specials... It makes sense that this game's fights would feel less like a traditional battle and more like a choreographed dance.
And that main buildup and melody/motif comes up in the beginning of the main battle theme because you hear it most often even if you beat a group of enemies quickly, BUT it comes back in full force in this theme much later because these fights take longer (typically mini bosses) and Soken knows you're going to reach that part of the song. So right when you're in the midst of the fight, you get rewarded with the theme you've heard over and over but a glorified banger version of it.
Every time you hit a parry or dodge on the downbeat during that 1:44 part... It's pure magic.
