I love how FFXIV handles it's final bosses, with the exception of Shinryu and Hades, each one realizes it can't beat you, no matter what, and drives them nuts. Thordan loses his nerve and grace and just wildly flails at you hoping a random strike will take you down, Nidhogg goes fucking berserk and just hits you with everything he has in a last ditch attempt to at least take you down with him, Endsinger is in disbelief that you dared to have hope on the face of despair and goes haywire, hitting you with wave after wave of despair over and over again in the vain hope that it will drown out your light.

He was ready to forsake his own body for his ideals. And the Warrior of Light goes even further, breaking limits thought not even possible to try to stop you after he fails to seal you away in another dimension. They might be calmer about it, but the Shadowbringers bosses really do put it all on the line.

Torn by duty to uphold the seat of Emet Selch by any genocidal means possible but also confident that if anyone could stop him, it was Azem. And who but Azem could befriend themselves across dimensions, fuse together for a last minute power boost and with the power of their allies shatter Hades soul?

When the friends you've been trying to convince to keep going through ARR's long slog story, finally reach Heavensward and transcend to FF14 enlightened believers.
Replaying it again and yeah it really is a slog. I'd say it actually starts to get great once you reach the crystal tower because context with Shb and EW, then if starts to really lay down the foundation for all the other expansions.
Favourite of the entire game. It's just so packed with story, lore, emotions. It's the suffering of Foundation when you first arrive, it's the melancholy of the Dragons, it's the togetherness of allies, it's perseverance, it's so damn good.
Don't worry, they definitely keep up with it too. A job quest later on uses this leitmotif again all the time called, 'Ever March Heavensward'. Gave me some six year nostalgia though.

The renditions are composed so beautifully it's so hard to do anything else but just listen to the music. The ost really speaks to how innately interwoven the histories of the Ishgardians and Dravanians are

i love how frantic both end bosses become, be it fighting through the actual Ultimate End sequence against Thordan + Knights of the Round, or to Nidhogg spamming Akh Morne on your unprepared party in phase 3

Two tracks with noticeably different melodic progressions aren’t a leitmotif just because they’re both choral. The only thing you could call a leitmotif here is the arpeggiated accompaniment of the organ/strings - which is a really weak leitmotif if you ask me, cuz there’s not really any definition to it. You could slap descending arpeggios behind anything and they’d all sound roughly the same.
