    For the black rosin mess use a wet/damp rag with some tripoi powder . The powder has rounded particles and is not very abrasive. It moves rosin but not varnish . The rag goes black to show what it has removed . It just makes varnish look shiny .

    Very good video. The only think I would add would be to lubricate the nut slots with a pencil lead. This can be done during a string change.

    Running the thread of the fine tuner over a candle work great.

      @@maestrokimon Instead of using oil, remove the screw for the fine tuner and run the threads through a piece of candle wax. The wax will get caught in between the threads and become the lubricant. After fitting the screw back to the fine tuner, run through the screw and unscrew the threads in and out of the fine tuner a few times to get rid of the excess wax. It safer, in my opinion, than using liquid oil and make much less of a mess

    • @maestrokimon
      @maestrokimon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Frank. You can just put the bow on a table or hang it by the top or frog. As long as you do it carefully. Don't forget to put of the tension after using it (by turning the screw counterclockwise). The bow is not so fragile as you think!!! (there are no dump questions by the way!)

      When the cello is in the (hard) case you can put it on its back. If it isn't in the case the put it on the sides.

    If applying the oily fluid, should you not be make sure that there is no tiny cracks on the top in order to prevent the fluid from getting into the crack which would make it difficult to repair it once in a while?

    • @maestrokimon
      @maestrokimon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I suppose that one controls his instrument for crack and if there are any they bring the instrument for repair.

    With all due respect, you clean the rosin in the bowing area of the top plate and then you proceed to rub the same rosined cloth onto the rest of the instrument. This is like using fine sandpaper to get rid of the dust on the rest of the violin.

  • @samuelwarshaw9480
    @samuelwarshaw9480 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought the black stuff on many instruments that were factory-made in the 1900’s, was the varnish, which often turned pretty black over a reaction to UV light?

    • @maestrokimon
      @maestrokimon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Often instruments are varnished in a way so they look old, damaged and dirty from the beginning. This method was used a lot on German Factory instruments from the 1900's.

      The clean rise has to go in from the right side and the dirty will go out left... No, just kidding!!!! You are right Frank, this is the way. You coulδ also close the holes with some paper tape but stik it first on a piece of cloth so it does't remove or damage the varnish.

      not sure if that is a troll or real advice, i can imagine both.

    • @maestrokimon
      @maestrokimon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The part about the rise is not a trol. The part about entering on right and going out on the left is. As the rice is hard it hits the dust so it can be blown out of the instrument.

      The varnish is a part of the original instrument. Removing it would be like removing the top and making a new one. it's not like the paint on a typical object that can be replaced.

    • @petrrohlik4316
      @petrrohlik4316 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are two ways to look at it. In these days, you can have cheap factory-made violin. If it's really violin that is made in series in factory and I would like to change the lacquer and would be willing to pay for it than I don't see a problem. But if it's luthiers piece, I wouldn't go in this direction. It's like repainting Mona Lisa. If it's made by luthier that is still alive, and you would still love to revarnish it, at least It should be made by him or with his permition.
      But if he's dead you should keep the instrument as is. In honor to him you should preserve the violin as he made it 😊
