ah, my pegs need paste then. I just started practicing yesterday after not playing for a couple of years, so back to the beginning again, but I live your videos and tips.
I'm so glad I came across your channel. I got a violin 20 years ago and never really got around to it, but with lockdown and all I've been making fine progress with you as my guide.
I just got peg paste to use as I just put new strings on my violin. The pegs were always too hard to turn. I think I put too much as they wouldn't stay tight and so had to wipe some off. I would love a video on how to apply it exactly right- thanks for all your tips and lessons.
Yes Julia...make the peg paste video. Mine have been hard to adjust since the violin was new. Still hard to turn and does make the snapping sound you demonstrated. Thanks.
Please peg paste tutorial. Your videos are like nearly always helpful Julia, thanks. I always use a hanky on the chin rest when practing since I sweat a lot😅 but I keep forgetting to clean for the rosin
The same way, wipe it daily with a cloth. But also you can use very dry but wet cloth , but don't let the wet cloth touch your violin. Make sure you dry it after. There is also something called violin cleaner you can use. I don't know the name of a particular brand, just that violin cleaner, and polish exists.
Thank you for the great maintenance instructions. I would be very interested in how you take care of the pegs. I play viola and have to admit, that I left the fine tuners on because for me it is so hard to turn the pegs, I don't seem to have the strength in my left thumb and index finger. Maybe "oiling" the pegs will help with this. I tried soap which I was told to use some decades ago but it makes the pegs too slippery.
So close to perfect I can't believe it. There's one thing I had some concerns about and then you did address a lot of them and it was quite thorough info. And that's about the bow hairs. I really don't loosen my bowl hairs as much as I should but it's kind of hard to get them to work halfway because its a very cheap bow. Also I don't really put it away I keep it near me usually on my bed or hanging on a wall and it's not an outside wall. I don't have air-conditioning and I never do but I don't know about the humidity but I do know that my 🎻 does not face extremes. It changes gradually. goes from dry to humid and back and it gradually goes from cold(maybe high 50s) In the winter if my heat can't keep up to warm (90s in summer) but I don't keep it near the heater. Like I say I'm doing almost perfect and it was very reassuring to hear all this again because I've been spending most of my time familiarizing myself. And I have learned some of your I downloads from a year ago. Time flies I was finally ready. they're very doable for me you know like twinkle twinkle Mary had a little lamb all kinds of finger exercises. I am trying to get easy version of Vivaldi Spring I'm having a little trouble with the bow bouncing and different stuff but I'll get it. no matter what I'm only having a very small amount of time so none of us will be surprised when I don't make a whole lot of progress in this life. Haha. The soundpost is still in place. the tailpiece is working well. the bridge IS bending a little bit AGAIN BUT I'm keeping an eye on it. But believe me I'm very happy. sorry this is long enough Like War and Peace
This is very long, Wendy. But no worries, I like hearing about your violin care. It seems as though you take good care of your instrument. I did notice you mentioned your bridge is bending, Do you mean lean forward? You can fix this you know. Use this link to check out one of my recent articles to help you find the perfect bridge position for your violin. violinspiration.com/violin-bridge-position/ Have a great day, Wendy!
@@Violinspiration okay thank you Julia. Yes it's leaning forward toward the fingerboard. I straighten it out but it always seems to do that after a while of fine-tuning. I will check out your suggestion thank you so much. And yes I do get up pretty early before 4 a.m. to fix a warm baked breakfast haha that means it's about 10 a.m. or 11 where you are right
Yes, I wipe them with a lint free cloth to get the rosin off and prevent build up every time after I play. Separate from what you wipe the body of the violin
If the cloth is clean, it is fine to touch the hairs of the bow. But you may have dirt and oil from the stick on the cloth that you don't want to transfer to the bow hair.

Thanks for the suggestion! Its a very good idea.
You’re the best. Thank you for a good video. I’m worried about humidity where I live. Now I know. Thanks
Hi, Julia. Is it necessary to apply polish, cleaner, or wax solutions for violin maintenance?
Yes Julia...make the peg paste video. Mine have been hard to adjust since the violin was new. Still hard to turn and does make the snapping sound you demonstrated. Thanks.
That's a good suggestion. Several others have mentioned it as well.
Best teacher I ever seen 😭💜💜💜

Ah yes, you should try to remember to clean the rosin.🥰
How should I clean my chin rest? It's got a bit sticky, probably from my perspiration.
Even for the chin rest, would any regular wood or furniture polish work? Like Murfees oil soap?
I didn’t even know I had to clean it……… damn
My gosh, I am so happy you found my video! Yes, you should clean it..🥰
Please make a peg paste video?
Good idea!

You're very welcome!😀
do we loosen strings between plays?
No you do not, you only loosen the bow hair.
Hii.. Im from Sri Lanka.. can you teach how to play levan polka song?.. plz..
Thank you for the suggestion!😀
What's the peg paste? I once made the horrible mistake of leaving my instrument in a trunk. It had to be fixed after.. It's not the same again, too.
It is a wax like substance that helps lubricate the peg so it can turn more easily.
Is peg paste different than peg drops?
I have not heard of peg drops, so I cannot say.🤔
How to Clean the rosin build up.
Now I do Clean my violin. But there are some old build ups
Glad your developing such good habits.
What we will do now
Clean your violin maybe?😉
@@Violinspiration bwahahah 🎻🤣🤣🤣
? Do you ever clean the violin strings too?
Yes, I wipe them with a lint free cloth to get the rosin off and prevent build up every time after I play. Separate from what you wipe the body of the violin
When you are wiping your bow with a cloth, why do you need to avoid touching the hairs with the cloth?
If the cloth is clean, it is fine to touch the hairs of the bow. But you may have dirt and oil from the stick on the cloth that you don't want to transfer to the bow hair.
@@Violinspirationis it true that. You can wash your bow hair if it appears dirty?
I hope you all learn to benefit from this
I hope so too.🥰
MY VIOLIN AND BOW HAVE LOTS OF ROSIN BUILDUP ON THE STRINGS AND ON THE WOODEN PART OF THE BOW HOW TO REMOVE IT 😭😭
You can use a lint free cloth to wipe it down. 😀
