    Thanks. I have a question about strings: what is the difference between a ball-end E string and a loop-end E string in terms of sound? Is one better than the other? (I currently have the fine tuner which fits the ball-end type)

    Thank you for another informative instruction video. I always like to learn more about violins since I am doing some small repairs on cheap instruments just to learn more. Just one comment about the video production. I would prefer if you would allow your natural pauses to be left in your speech. Sometimes I feel like the video editor is trying to take away any pause in the speech. It is the same with music. Pauses are important. They make you reflect and be ready for the next phrase. And I also wonder if there was a looped electric guitar in the background. If so, then why? It only makes the soundscape blurry and you lose focus on the message. Musicians as I need to listen to all music that is being played. If there is a hidden melody in the background, my attention is drawn to that. Please keep your video editing simple. I really like your way of explaining.

      Don’t make such detailed, personal criticisms and advice on TH-cam videos, it’s bad manners.

      I’m scared to clean it with water and soap.

    Hi Edgar, just wanted to share that my violin string broke and I made a knot to which I attached the little ball and I just put the string back on and it works for me. Concert can come.

    Thanks Edgar. I just like violin as a beautiful instrument, and your video makes me relax and even therapeutic:) I noticed that you tend to favor a left mounted chin rest rather than the Guarneri style, particularly with your master violins. Is there a reason for this?

    What kind of soap should I use for my violin?

    • @EdgarRuss
      @EdgarRuss  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Any type of classic hand soap will work just fine, don't rely on products that are too harsh😉

      @@EdgarRussIt really won’t hurt the varnish? I have an early 1800 cello and am concerned about taking varnish off by using soapy water!

    Grazie! Now I know how to take care of my vioin. Question: Wouldn't it be better to remove strings, clean and then put strings back on?

      Take extreme care that you don’t let the sound post fall when the bridge is free.

    Thank you for the great video. I have one question: Should the soap used in the cleaning be rinsed off prior to applying the polish? Many soaps contain all kinds of chemicals that might be harmful to the varnish.

    I do need to clean my violin. It seems to get dirty about 100 times faster than it did when I was a kid.
