I have a 19th Century Italin Violin and Flute. My mom gave me tbe flute and I inherited my Stradivari from my Great Aunt who was a professional Orchestra Member. Violin is one of my all time favorite instruments so I absolutely love it and care for it as a Violin should be cared for. . .especially an old one. 😊
Congrats on buying your first violin! Never too late to start learning. We have had many many adults pickup the violin or cello as a new hobby this year. Good luck on your musical journey! Love team SSC
Only recently have I noticed how important it is to clean the violin after practice. I was doing it every month! Also, I put so much rosin that the bridge was warped because I was using the fine tuners and there was so much rosin that it moved the violin. Luckily it wasn't broken yet.
Same here! After getting it tuned up and cleaned at the shop, I’m definitely going to be taking more care of it from now on. I hadn’t cleaned it in years and with new Dominant strings it sound amazing!
Hi there! Any dry cleaning cloth should do the job as long as it doesn’t have a rough surface. just be sure that it’s dry and clean with no residue of any cleaning products. Microfiber is recommended as it won’t scratch your instrument or damage your strings. If you aren’t sure about the cloth you have I’d just wait until you’re able to pop out and get a microfiber cloth :-) I personally use a glasses cleaning cloth if I don’t have an instrument specific one lying around.
Hi there! Thanks for the question. Definitely don’t loosen the strings on the violin. This would cause it to go out of tune and potentially cause the sound post inside the violin to collapse. Only loosen the hairs on the bow :-)
