Of course that's going to happen. Star Wars has been absent from the cineplex for five years. Streaming numbers have dropped significantly since Mandalorian, and Indy 5 proves Lucasfilm is no longer a profitable studio.
The real tragedy is we all know Rey 1 fails, then something we actually looked forward to will get cancelled and Rey 2 will be worse.
The only question I have is “why?”
Its simple. They are idiots. Kathleen Kennedy is still in charge. They have no new ideas. The fact that they are struggling with a script and to even come up with a story that can work for Rey is proof positive. KK is in charge! This is going to be an utter disaster. And I hope it is. I hope the budget gets out of control as the more they spend the more they will lose and the more embarrassment and mockery they will suffer. And I bet KK still keeps her job. The only way this is going to work is if they keep the budget stupidly low. And that is not going to happen as KK is in charge....

The force awakens made positive buzz and looked how that turned out. The Rey movie is a sinking ship that everyone is ignoring the sinking part of it all.
I know. That is exactly right. Before Force Awakens the hype was massive, fans were eager for more new Star Wars. And everyone thought now George was no longer involved it would not be boring and stilted like Attack of the Clones or with moron characters like Jar Jar Binks. They were expecting quality and respect for the source material as good as the first few phases of Marvel were up to End Game. And what we got was Force Awakens and a Mary Sue in Rey. Not only that but she was annoying and so was the actress. Just a pathetic character that did not resonate. And then they proceeded to change lore and give her more and more powers and rewrite her abilities from film to film. Since then its got even worse, bad series, bad treatment of Obi Wan and Fett. They have run Mandalorian into the ground and mined it out to the point where Grogu is no longer cute but predictable and irritating. And Solo flopped and Indy 5 was a total disaster in every single way. And all of this led into Star Wars being out of cinemas for years, and getting a worse and worse reputation. And they want to do not one but two Rey films! And they will do them. No matter what. Truly stupid is not a big enough critical statement. They will lose a lot of money on this, and they deserve to.

Honestly, no matter how good a putative Rey film might be, unless it retcons the existing Rey trilogy - which it won't - I don't think the character can be salvaged. Her story undermines too many fundamental rules and elements of the Star Wars universe. If I have to choose between "Toss out every piece of Jedi lore prior to Force Awakens" vs "toss out one possibly decent film", the choice is pretty simple.
I rly think retcon is an idea they should actually think about. Imagine we are back in an era where we will get new sequels. Wow would be insane. This just pisses me off hearing they are already making the sets for the Rey movie. Bullshit

Palpatine literally learned how to cheat death from Plagueis, its a plot hole if he doesnt learn it tbh, the prophecy has nothing to do with that. The darkside corrupts the will of the force (like the prophecy) so its nothing different.
This war lasts 3 years to maintain balance, in legends the Empire takes 40 years to fall. there was a lot more time of peace in canon.

Wait, ANOTHER DAISY RIDLEY INSTALLMENT?! Good God! Well, that's 2 releases I won't be seeing. If they make it an official trilogy, it'll be a trifecta of Star Wars releases that I will be consciously making no effort to experience. I don't accept The Disney Sequel Trilogy as canon (nor does George Lucas, for that matter); thus, I won't be seeing any films (or Disney + series) that focus on that story, its characters, and its aftereffects. I want nothing to do with it...and I certainly don't want ANY of the quality characters (esp. Din Grogu and Jacen Syndulla) from Lucas, Filoni, and Favreau, OR even ones from the video games (esp. Cal Kestis) being shoehorned in to the storytelling. I guess The Mandoverse trilogy (pretty much made for 1st-Gen Star Wars Fans, who've been here, since 1977) will be the movies I'll have to be giving my focus and patronage to, since it's extremely clear that Kennedy has every intention of tripling down on her Woke Revisionist History complex with regard to new canonical Star Wars content. If they are already building sets and such before they even have a script finished it sounds like they're rushing again at best. Given Lucasfilm's track record of late, I don't believe any movie is coming out until they release an actual trailer.

Yes. I knew it would go this route. I made a bet that they would start filming before they even had a script finished and signed off. And that is what they are doing. Its the worst thing you can do in a film as you get stuff filmed, and then as the script develops and is re written, you have to go back and re film or even abandon what is done due to re writes. Which means reshoots and cost over runs. Its going to be a typical Lucasfilm / Kathleen Kennedy mess. She has the track record for this with Solo, Rogue One, Indy 5 and Rise of Skywalker. Not to mention the Rogue Squadron film that was announced, set up and then ditched when the director fell out with KK and pretty much everyone else. Its going to be more fun reading about the botched goings on than any film that ever gets released....

It almost seems like Disney Star Wars is in chaos and nobody knows what's happening. There's a Rey movie! Maybe two! Maybe none! Hey look it's Grogu! Remember Taika Watiti is doing one? Sadly, the problem is, since around 2018, NO ONE in Hollywood WANTS to be President of Lucasfilm Ltd. Kennedy and her ilk have both hobbled and poisoned the company and its reputation in Tinseltown; so it's profoundly difficult to find candidates to replace her.

I’m a 41 year old man who loves Star Wars, and I love the Rey and Ben characters. I thought the Force Awakens was great, but the sequel trilogy lost it’s way by having NO STORYLINE planned, and then the Rise of Skywalker had great moments, but is a CLUSTERFUCK of a film, because it was clearly made with twenty people all having way too much say in what needed to happen, not enough final control by the Director, and not enough time to make it. I really want Disney to keep going and to somehow retcon/fix the Skywalker Saga, because Star Wars the melodramatic serial it was intended to be, cannot really move forward until it has truly respected Anakin, Luke, Han and Leia. These characters need proper send offs, and ideally some more adventures too.

Just saying. I don’t see why there is so much hate for Rey. Was the sequel trilogy perfect? Far from it. But I never hated on Daisy Ridley or the character Rey. Like Rise of Skywalker sucked, but it was writing and really lazy reintroduction of Palpatine. I don’t like what Luke became but I liked the direction The Last Jedi took and wish the idea of force sensitive people rising could have been Rise of Skywalker.

They are not offering a base of $12.5 mil.... her base is under 5. BUT where its lucrative for her is the POINTS being offered. So the total cash based on a $1bil is $12.5 mil, which maybe puts Daisy at around a $2 mil base with 2-3 points.
Adam Driver's base pull isn't even over $5 million yet, and we can say he's FAR MORE advanced in his career than Daisy Ridley. The great FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA paid Driver $5 mil base for Magalopolis, his highest yet! Remember Daisy and John both only got a base of $250,000 for TFA, plus points (probably at most 2 points) while Adam and Oscar pulled in a base of $700,000 for TFA, also plus points (probably 3). ALL of that scales with experience, box-office draw, etc. SOOOOOOOOO..... highly doubt the figure being thrown around is BASE salary, its probably total cash out.
Go and research these actors' NET WORTH and that will tell you a lot.

I would like these if they closed out Luke properly, that's why I hate it.. when I was growing up Luke was my hero, and they've done nothing but crap on his character and make him nothing at all what Luke was and represented. I have no issue with a girl being "the next force" or anything like that, it's specifically how they tore apart the best character after anakin.. if they closed his chapter on a better note I would have loved the movies, but I'll never get over how they did him.. thank God John Favreau at least stepped in and did Luke justice on mandalorian, I'll DEFINITELY go see that movie, but nothing will get me to go see the other one. I'm all for "moving forward" with the times, but the hold they put around Luke's neck, nah I'm good.

I know. But Adam Driver and Boyega have dug themselves in on this and have said on numerous occasions they would not do another Star Wars film, as they did not seem to enjoy working on the ones they did do. They had to keep quiet for a long time due to the NDAs you mention. But when that time was up Boyega was pretty vocal about things. He did not like the way his character was side lined and never went anywhere after being set up in Force Awakens. He more or less ended up as comic relief and running around shouting REY!!! all the time. Driver has also been vocal about things, but to be honest I have not paid much attention to him since Star Wars or any of the others involved as I thought the characters were poor and had little to do, they made no pop culture impact at all, unlike the original films of the 70s and 80s. If they offer them silly money, and they go back now, they will be selling out the principles they have been shouting and the fans will mock them. If I were them I would steer clear. Its going to be a convoluted, troubled production with reshoots you can see it coming. And none of them need the work, unlike Daisy R....
@@Simon-xc5oy i was talking about NDA’s for a possible involvement in future movies, not the NDA they had before that kept them from speaking of their time there. That’s why i say dont take their denials if involvement in the rey movie too seriously cause they may only be saying that because of an NDA. When it comes to unpleasant experiences in the movies, between the two, John Boyega was the only one who had legitimate and very valid issues with his time with Star Wars. Adam’s was more of an observation of his time on set and how he handled working on a big set that he was not used to that time, not that he hated or didnt enjoy his time there (dude loved his character Kylo/Ben). But even with John, dont underestimate the lure of a lot of money (i mean they can literally earn 5 movies worth in just 1 star wars movie). Oscar Issac once said, if i want another house, ill return to Star Wars. Even with Adam- especially since he has a growing family now (his second kid was just born). He’s also taking roles now that his kids can watch (hence, he took the movie 75). And i doubt that fans will mock them (only those hardcore toxic fans will im sure do that but i bet the general audience who just goes to the movies because its a Star Wars movie would love to see them back- i know i would).
Yes well, I read a lot of that myself over the years since. What annoys me is actors / people moaning about something, then when large piles of money are involved they sign up. Daniel Craig as Bond is the last one that springs to mind. Moaning about it and how he would not do another and would rather crawl over broken glass etc. And then picks up millions and makes another depressing Bond film. I am cynical enough to believe that they do it to force a pay increase. Its all tactics and sneaky underhand behaviour. As for the Star Wars cast, I dont really care what they do. If they take the cash and sign up then those that moaned are hypocrites. And have played the game well stunting for more money. But is it going to be worth it? They will have to pay out a lot of cash to get them. And there is no sure fire hit for another Star Wars film after the last ten or so years of lame tv series and disappointments. Yes some fans will go and some general audience, but its hardcore fans that go over and over and turn out in droves that are the ones that push a Star Wars film up to big money. That goodwill is gone. I am classic era fan and was there for the original film as kid and it was an experience like nothing else in film at the time and has never been repeated since. My father took me to see it, and neither of us had seen any publicity. It was the first time I had seen a line stretching down the street for any film. We were blown away and back the next night with my younger brother as well. Then a week later with my mother who now wanted to see it, and the word of mouth kept building. In the line waiting to get in we saw more and more people we knew, neighbours and people from my fathers work with their families. All of them had one thing in common. They were not fans of sci fi in general, or of Star Wars, but they were after seeing that first movie. Disney has not got a hope of repeating that. The best thing they could do with this new Rey film. The one thing that is a must, is to keep the budget under control. That way it might stand a chance of making a profit....

I really liked the casting from the sequel trilogy even if i only liked the first movie of the trilogy.
luke didnt go to ben with intent to kill he went to check his mind because of his questionable behavior and thats why leia sent him thete in the first place. Luke saw Kylo would kill Han, Leia & the students if he didnt act he'd be responsible for kylo doing it, either way he fails its litetally spelled out in the movie, You can have an opinion but its not correct. Ppl say luke saw light in vader but all it took was to threaten turning her to the dark to go from i will not fight you to almost killing him. and he went to bespin to save han & her. Luke will do anything for his family. but what happens when family hurts family? its the least thing hes expecting & the main thing hes not prepared 4
Palpatine literally learned how to cheat death from Plagueis, its a plot hole if he doesnt learn it tbh, the prophecy has nothing to do with that. The darkside corrupts the will of the force (like the prophecy) so its nothing different.
This war lasts 3 years to maintain balance, in legends the Empire takes 40 years to fall. there was a lot more time of peace in canon.

I would have watched a trilogy about a conflicted stormtrooper that switched sides….he struggles but fights his boss (Captain Phasma), perhaps he loses but joins up with some plucky rebels to find the Jedi master….and in the second movie rematches Phasma and then possibly Kylo Ren…finally studies under Luke Skywalker and becomes a powerful Jedi to battle Snoke.
he had a great arc though? He started as a stormtrooper, left, started to care about Rey so much he risked the entire resistance just to save her & then tried to desert so she wouldn't come back because the fleet was doomed, stopped by Rose who gives him a reason to fight for the cause and give his life for the resistance at the end of 8 but is saved. He went from a runaway who cared about himself, to Rey & Poe and then the entire resistance he learns to care about in 8. In 9 everyone's "arc" is already set, just like it was in the OT. No need for more character development if we're going by Han Solo standards. But it would've been cool to see him train, hopefully in the Rey movie
