I’ve got to tell you, sir: I’ve never heard someone so completely and clearly explain the fundamentals of a great driver swing. I’ve watched a million videos and gotten a lot of in person advice, only ever hitting 280-300 accidentally really. Watching this one video has cleared up so much that I wasn’t quite getting right. Thank you so much.

This was the most impactful explanation of what to do with the left arm I've ever seen. I took this to the range the day I watched it, after doing a little mirror work to reinforce it. Ball was dead center of the face, flight was dead center. Amazing! Great explanation! Distance, control, all automatic.

I have watched a lot of these Steve Pratt videos and I was doing better, but I was still pushing drives to the right. I started doing the pec grab that he was describing here and it straightened out my drives. I could not believe it. I just tried it for the first time today when I was warming up to play. I then started using the method on the course and what a difference. I hit multiple drives over 260 yards and one of them was a roll out to 300 yards. The best thing about it, was that I was able to do it consistently and I did not feel like I was trying any harder than I was before. The golf season in Ohio is almost over, but this is now my new normal. I am going to be practicing this all winter in my garage. Great lesson, and that was a fun day of golf. Wish it worked for putting.

Major props, Steve, and I can't say enough about this particular vid, folks. (My comment is made from the perspective of a right handed golfer).
The inner bicep 'glued' to the left pec '7' position throughout the swing is (in my humble opinion) THEE most important aspect of the golf swing in that then (and ONLY then) will aspiring golfers begin to understand how the body is the hub of the motion we call, "the golf swing." Except for the last split second release of the wrists, they can now see AND understand how the body hits the ball, thanks to this very well thought-out video.
The only thing I've added to my swing (which I don't recommend to anyone new to the game until they've diligently practiced your lesson here) is that my recoiling starts when I push off with the instep of my right foot which forces my mass onto my left side WHILST my body (and the 'lucky 7' connection) rotate through the impact area. For me, this is a simultaneous move, adding a bit more speed to my rotating mass which then transfers into the ball, hence compressing the golf ball much more than by starting the transition to the left side with the hips, or shifting our weight to the left side via 'the bump,' as it is sometimes called. Pushing off with the right foot onto the left side is in fact executing a golf swing 'from the ground - up.'
Other 'absolutes' for those who are not yet aware:
    1. Your tilted spine angle at address MUST BE MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE SWING.
    2. You should see yourself looking down at where the golf ball was at address AFTER you've first struck the ball, and your head should be rolling sideways (right cheek parallel to the ground) as you watch your golf ball take off, much like you are forced to do when skipping stones across water. Why? Well for one, this will keep you from 'standing up on the shot'...a habit that results in a wayward left flight and/or a hook.
    3. Film yourself often to see a sobering review of what you're doing...not what you THINK you're doing. Watching your swing frame by frame is of tremendous benefit.
I've enjoyed Mike Austin's method for years, even to the point of keeping my club face square throughout the swing.
Again, great video lesson here, Steve. This lesson alone will fix an array of bad habits for countless golfers. Keep up the great work, bud.
    - a fellow 'Steve.'

Then, I tried this swing, I couldn’t believe my own eyes by how far and straighter my shots were. Thank you so much. My game is now complete.

There are hundreds of videos on TH-cam teaching perhaps as many different and sometimes contradicting fundamentals of golf. Besides the late Dan Shauger and Mike Dunaway, Steve is also a major proponent of the true and powerful techniques that are the epitome of the legendary Mike Austin's golf swing method. Took some of Steve's tips to the driving range the other day and they "worked like a charm for me".

This is such an important video. This action of the left arm is conceptually the opposite of what most of us have been taught to do. I have even studied the Golf Machine for several years and have tried to actively get the left arm to ""blast off the chest" ( release of Power Accumulator #4) - and it has just resulted in a feeling of a lot of effort with very little result. Played 9 holes tonight trying to feel this and when I did it well the results were great - lots of distance and it felt so easy just having the left arm be passive, and the power coming from the pivot and the wrists/hands.

Update, worked on the techniques in your video at the range. This swing added 10-20 yards to my clubs and is much easier to hit consistently. The next 2 times I played golf with my buddies, I shot in the mid 80’s with 0 penalty strokes. Prior to that I wasn’t even pulling out my driver at times because of the fear of going OB. Thanks for making golf much more fun again!

  • @stevebarnard7396

    Steve,
You have unlocked something that has prevented me from taking my game to the next level; the inability to drive the ball with power. Although I am 70 years old (9 handicap) and can hit a 7 iron 150 yards I have averaged about 200 yards off the tee. It is not a matter of strength but technique and I have tried almost anything and everything. Your very basic move of pinning the lead arm to the pec model (something that I have never heard from any other pro!), along with the lead hip bump got me excited about getting back to the golf course, pronto. Result from today (9 holes only): tee shots 20-30 yards longer, still a slight fade with 2 bogies, 5 pars, and 2 birdies. Even par. You have a fan and student for life, and I will certainly be recommending you to my friends and family members.

Ok I think I’m a bit thick, but I had to watch this three times to get it, for many years I’ve been using the left arm to make my hit and obviously no good results. Now I know why my short irons were good shots because I locked that left arm in. I realized I need to do that with all my clubs. 💡 can’t wait to put this to the test. Thank you.

UPDATE: I took this technique out to the driving range and saw immediate results. I started to hit more consistently with greater distance and with less effort! I then took it to my golf lesson where my instructor tweaked my legs a little (slightly narrower stance and dropped my right leg about 2" for more hip rotation). All of a sudden, my ball flight was a couple of yards left of center with massive distance gains - without swinging any faster or harder!!! Great technique! Steve, THANK YOU for translating the complicated into something us mortals can understand.

  • @fierce1hander264

This was one of the moves that took my striking to a new level. A pitfall to be aware of when trying to execute this move is hanging back too much with the upper body and spinning the 7 out. Remember to feel a nice lateral shift back to your lead side before you start down and then arrive with the 7 through the ball.

  • @harryzhang8378
    @harryzhang8378 2 ปีที่แล้ว

This Steve's Pec Grab saved my day! It gets me back to hitting long again! I am 60 now and have lost the lower body leading the down swing and pulling the arms through. Especially the recent years due to varies miner injuries I've changed my swing so much just to get by so that I can get on the course. The result is I've lost my swing and hard to back to hitting solid and long. Tried all kinds of suggestions from online and friends with no prevail. Even tried once Steve's leading arm pec'ed first but did not stick to it long enough. This time I see obvious result - drives passing my playing partners 40-50 yards! Solid and much longer on my irons, too!
Another reason I see this methods works particularly well is that I pay golf, and anything with two hands hockey (used to play in college), baseball, etc...left-handed, while anything with one hand right-handed. Actually my right arm is stronger than the left. I've been thinking to develop a swing leveraging my stronger leading/right arm, looks that I've found it! Im going to stick to it and make my swing more efficient. I believed it'll be more consistent, and even longer! Thank you so much, Steve Pratt, for this technique. Im writing this comment is for anyone out there maybe in a similar situation to be able to benefit from Steve's swing tip and to enjoy this game more! All says golf is a frustrating game, but you'd feel so exited and rewarding when hitting them solid and long! And Im sure falling of score will soon follow!
    Harry

I'm still amazed at the left foot movement in your swing. You get the benefit of two different front foot positions; one just slightly open for the backswing and then you pick up and reposition the foot (and downswing pivot axis) closer to your CG to get you stacked up sooner without any slide and open the foot out to free the hips for the hit. You once told me you had an injury that caused this, but I think you've invented a better way!

I'm 70 Years old and have been struggling with my drive for the past several years. I played yesterday with the Pec grab and Figure 7. I outdrove my buddies for the first time. Straight and long. I love it. They kept saying "you are really turning through the ball today". I wasn't thinking of that I guess it just happened. I'm going to study up on the other video of hip moving an inch to target to better square the shoulders next time. Thanks Steve.

So well explain, it’s make so much sense forcing us so much to use our body in the turn and how the arms should behave to not initiate the downswing. 👍
