    He told me to hit the mudbank with the club head as hard as I could, but said if you get any mud on your knickers, I'll kick you in the rump! He taught me the greatest lesson of all, which is to release the club head -- Mike Austin (paraphrasing a bit, but words to that effect)

    I’ve been playing for about 5 years , never improving in distance but ever since I’ve found your Chanel, learning a lot and putting it into practice, suffer with distance, I’m about 6’1 and consider stronger but can only hit drivers about 200 yards, I hit it as hard as I can with my hands with no results.

    Nicklaus , once said, he could never release the club to early from the top. That statement said to me that as long as my hands are moving forward , I can release at any time, as hard as I need too. As long as I feel that my hands don’t slow down through impact.

    Steve - great video. You answered a lot of the questions I had on swinging faster. I still have a couple questions on the transition and which hand powers thru impact- 1) what are you actively/consciously doing to start and move thru the downswing? Swinging the left arm as fast as possible, or turning your torso and taking the left arm along for the ride? 2) as your thumbs push the uncock, are you using more right hand to uncock and push the back of the shaft down and thru impact? What I'm asking is how much power the right hand adds to the downswing and thru impact. I've always been a left arm puller, but my left shoulder gets sore after hitting a bucket of balls if I try and swing faster. When I've tried to add right hand power I usually hook the ball and don't gain any swing speed. Thanks !

    • @Inmotion70
      @Inmotion70  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes left arm rides along. I try to step down and turn fast while staying relaxed. I feel like the hands are a team effort.

      @@Inmotion70 I tried that last night and either left the face open or hit shanks. Too passive I guess. I went back to swinging the whole "triangle" but mostly an arms swing and had great results. I have to keep my back leg (right leg) pretty straight and flexed into the back swing and downswing to keep from hitting behind ball. I was getting 112-115 mph driver on my more aggressive swings, so I think I found the power leak - my right leg was collapsing in the backswing.

    I feel like defining release is one of the biggest impediments to golf instructions. I personally relate release when the club head overtakes the handle. Even though the entire downswing is the act of releasing, I can hold the "release" until that point that the club head overtakes the handle. It's all perspective and I think everyone has a different one.

    I'm 52 and generally drive it 250-270 yards fairly straight without the extreme wrist cock at the top and without the deliberate release starting early. I'm eager to see what improvements this can make. I'll try this out this weekend.

If I focus on wrist cock, I can create more speed but occasionally leave face open. If I think of releasing the flap at the start, I hit it much better but wonder if I'm leaving a little power potential on the table. Thanks for any clarity.

    3 index, 65 yrs old with ss of around 95, indeed start down with late release and lag. Although I know Nicklaus said you can never release the club early enough, and I've heard Malaska talk about it, I think your explanation is best, and when I do it there is an absolute 20 more yards for me. I have a question about your head position at impact; you resemble David Duval with your head looking up and forward vs staying still and back. Any thoughts on the position of the head; my guess is that the key is to feel total freedom in the throughswing. Thanks.

    Adam Scott, for example, goes into right wrist flexion then, and resultingly has only a minimal angle.

      @Inmotion70  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Milo is probably misinformed. If he got on the same 3D motion system you would see he's applying uncocking force from shoulder high. It's the same timing for all golfers if they want to strike the ball squarely.

    • @thurlestonetennis2447
      @thurlestonetennis2447 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve, Milo cannot be misinformed if he hits the ball over 350 yards, and clearly demonstrates how he does it, with his hands ahead of the club face at impact. His advice is exactly the opposite of yours and he says “you don’t want the club overtaking the lead arm before you hit the ball ..as you are no longer in control, and the club is decelerating”. This is demonstrated in slow motion in ‘Tow it Thru’.
      In his other YT video ‘Tow it to Smash It’ this is demonstrated at 2.46; and at 6.48 and 8.37 he clearly states that you should not throw the club early, and explains why.
      Just goes to prove there is more than one way to hit a golf ball and smash it over 300 yards I suppose. I assume that neither way is wrong, but would be interested in your take on his method.

      @@thurlestonetennis2447 No. Nobody actually does this. I was just going back through my research and watching a 3D AMM analysis on torques and forces done on a major tour winner swinging at 123 mph. His uncocking torque begins right where I said it does. Milo THINKS he is doing something but let's see what happens when he gets in the lab. The uncocking force STARTS at shoulder high and peaks just past last parallel wherein the clubhead is now traveling too fast to actually torque it any faster - kind of like pedaling a bike downhill.

    Steve, when working on the pole drill (assuming that you have your sternum centered with the pole, saw this on on of your other release drill videos with the pole drill) without the pivot with a driver, where is the ball in relation to the pole? When you add the pivot, is the pole moving/following your sternum location/angle as torso opens up, would be nice to see a line represented for pole during the whole swing?

    When I try this, I am all over the place with my drives. It just seems like with more smaller muscles involved- fingers, hands, wrists, arms- the less dependable the swing is. No?

      It means you're either releasing it wrong or your body is not in position to support it.

      When i started to switch to this method i was all over the place for about 10 days and driving was always best part of my game. I was hittinh pop up, slices & hooks but stuck to it and started hitting better, longer drives with what seems like less effort and less timing.
      This particular video just reminded me to get the woosh just after the ball. I think i was starting to woosh a little to early (at the ball).

      @@derekbrooks8705 had another ah haa today after watching one of Steve's analysis of kyle long drive guy. Today i focused on long left arm bringing it as straight and high as i could and left shoulder wayyy under and then releasing clubhead as we're taught here. Result was i think best driving day ever. If i posted the numbers many would not believe them so i won't even bother. I'll just say, stick with this guys teachings, best method I've ever come across.

    It is perfectly obvious that “release” is poorly defined because very good golfers do what might be called “release” very differently. It is one of those aspects of the swing,including most of the details of the supposed fundamentals like grip, stance, plane, that can be done differently with very good result as long as some basic body movements are done properly.

    So you actually use your arms to throw the club head? I know what your saying in this, but so many people will throw away the away the angle from the top. I almost feel like you are making it too simple sounding. A video on how to throw the club from the top ( after sitting into transition) .. Like specifically which muscles to use would be interesting

    Don’t agree with this at all, if you intentionally start to release the club at the top the energy is wasted by the time you will get to impact. If you’re swinging correctly the weight and momentum of the club will automatically release the club, the central nervous system will do it job if you freely swing to a target.

    • @andyv6299

      I don't think golf is a natural and beginners most of time swing out and in with open face hitting slices which seems you have to learn a way to hit the ball straight, if you learn as jurnor and get taught how to release then maybe you can say let the weight to release but most time I see most golfers going all over place because it's hard sport and takes time to get better

      Hi Greg! It has now been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt by many PhDs in labs testing hundreds of tour players that uncocking torque occurs at shoulder height in every good golfer, including all tour golfers. Once you get past this myth, your game might move forward quite a bit.

    • @georgeaugustyniak3653
      @georgeaugustyniak3653 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your energy won’t be wasted if you keep your hands moving ahead of the club head or feel that they do. The only way to lose energy is to slow up your hands before impact.

      @@georgeaugustyniak3653 Wow, this is something i honestly never thought about...I suffer from both a chicken wing and early extension but I'm thinking of trying this at the range because it seems like keeping my hands (or even my arms) accelerating through impact would eliminate both of these problems. Are there any other videos that you'd recommend that mention this?
