  • Made sometime between 1970 and 1980 the Dinky Hawker Harrier No722 featured retracting undercarriage and swivelling engine nozzles. For this video I used two Harriers to make a one complete aircraft model.
There is a bit of social distancing friendly landscape vistas and chainsaws were put aside...

    A painting tip.....
Always paint canopy frames with the brush inline with the frame, not crosswise. Makes for a neater job.

looking grat again! fascinating mechanism, too! :) you could lube it with graphite off a soft pencil lead, if needed.
and it came with a pilot, too? they upped it with every new plane, it seems.
    "All Roger?"
    "This is Roger, what's up?"
"Who let that &%)"&%/ Roger join the airforce?"
    ;)

Harriers were VSTOL aircraft so did indeed do rolling landings and takeoffs and the undercarriage was designed both for that and the considerable 'bump' experienced as the aircraft lost ground effect during vertical landing. The wing Oleos were actually wheels not skis.

That came out great. I've seen a few Harriers on static display but regret never actually seeing one take off or land.

Another lovely job and a much nicer more authentic paint livery than the original factory colours. Of interest, I have a Dinky factory pre production Harrier finished in dark gold, of all things! As you can imagine, it doesn’t flatter the model at all. ( What were Dinky thinking?!) 😝

Where are you getting the parts for the restorations from?
Like the canopies and decal sheets and plastic props and the black rubber noses for the jets?
Can you give me a lead to obtain parts?
    Thanks.

Marty greetings From Barcelona! I really enjoyed your video of the Harrier! Thank you very much indeed. The missing canopy is a detail that I have struggled with as well with a Dassault Super Étendard and I still havent been able to make one neither to find a replacement... Please post a vídeo if you find the solution. Greetings to Australia! FPR

Beautiful view at the beginning. I loved that Harrier as a kid at the end of the 1960's - it really was a taste of the future. I had the Airfix model of the P1127 'Kestrel', the prototype, and got the Dinky Harrier as a Christmas present. It got played with a lot. Dinky also made a model of the Jaguar fighter/bomber. It had a working ejector seat, if I remember, which guaranteed lost pilot figures or your money back (or something).
Your restoration looks superb. The donor Harrier looks like the ones found in the middle of nowhere, that are used as gunnery targets for RAF trainees. The cover of Suede's 'Sci-Fi Lullabies' (1997) has a heartbreaking picture of a BAC Lightning in such a position.
Most model shops are still selling online, if you need supplies. Wonderland Models in Edinburgh, or Hattons in Widnes are both great.

Amazon has modeling supplies, paints, brushes, thinner, etc.
Being retired and now homebound, I have a good stock of model kits to keep me busy. Postal Service and UPS still deliver.

    • @diecastrescue3597
      @diecastrescue3597  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sometimes but because of where I am even amazon wont deliver certain items and I have to use a mail redirection service with means some items cost more in postage then the items original cost and postage combined. And even then I have to go and collect it from a collection centre 10 miles away that is not open at the moment sadly :(.
