  • For this video we will restore a Dinky Diecast 726 Messerschmitt BF109E made sometime between 1972 and 1975. The aircraft is missing its propeller, aerial, switch and most importantly its motor!.
    So I get replacement parts including that motor and finish it off using Airfix water slide transfers from the Airfix BF109e-3 1/72 kit A68205.
    As the Dinky Spitfire and Ju87 Stuka were brought out as movie related toys to the 1969 Film Battle of Britain I also share my Battle of Britain movie cards which I got back in the day as a trade in against a pile of football cards anyone remember them?

    The condition of the model, particularly the paint, seemed a little too nice and original to strip and repaint. But I guess there’s a lot of them available so it doesn’t really matter. Great job by the way! From memory the Dinky ‘kit’ version back in the day came with a similar colour livery.

    Nice resto job of the 109 ,don't get me wrong but it would have been a finishing touch in you had applied Swastika's to the tail ,and Balkenkretz / German underwing markings ,plus the spinner on the prop was yellow on Battle of Britain 109 E s ,and not black .

    Excellent restoration , glad you used those decals, looks so much better, I agree with you about the job lots or parts vehicles.
    I remember those cards what a pleasant surprise to see those again.
    And iam pleased to hear iam not the only one who prefers the hurricane to the spitfire. 😀👌

    Got to thank you for the detailed restoration, especially the motor! Carefully followed your tutorial and successfully restored two Dinky Spitfires motors. Feel as though have the confidence to tackle more aircraft!

    i use a product called kleer floor polish to dip canopies in if they are cloudy/scratched, whilst i usually am building vintage model kits as
    opposed to dinkys it should help to bring the cloudy canopies back to life.

    The Sea King was released as 'Number 66', the Apollo moon mission recovery helicopter, with a floating Apollo command module: a West German Navy helicopter with a SONAR probe, and a British Army helicopter, with, if memory serves, a cargo net for the working winch to pick up. It's about 1/100 scale. A nice model. That Bf109 is the only diecast toy I have ever owned that succumbed to metal fatigue - the rear fuselage crumbled away in storage.😞
    Thanks for showing those cards - what a blast from the past! The last time I saw any of those must have been in about 1970, when I was seven. They were such a big thing, too. Thanks again.

    Hi looks great. You mentioned in the zero rebuild you had an unusual source for new motors to be shared in the ME109 video. My spitfire engine died years ago and as a 10 year old my mechanical genius was yet to be uncovered, so I went at it with the finesse of a bull in a china shop. I have tried buying donor models and every one is a real mess so a waste of time and effort. Got any ideas where to find one desperate to see it fly again?

      Hi you see me using an electrical lubricant in one of the videos I should remember which made by Servisol and that can get things going again without opening them up (sometimes) worth a go or get a broken Dinky Sea king Helicopter as that uses the same motor and are usually quite cheap to pick up.

    If I'm not mistaken the code for the light blue color was RLM65. However the Germans used several different colors for the underside of airplanes during WW2, and even more colors for the side and topside.

    I don't know if we had such trading cards back when, those I know of were animal kingdom-related, or maybe machinery of some sorts. many were distributed inside of certain cigarette brands' boxes, hence the german name, "Zigarettenbildchen", others came in food boxes. the publishers also offered albums where you could glue the pics into, with additional information. I caught two of those on a flea market for a fistful of euros. :) crikey, the infos and facts they gave back when... certainly the spirit of the times. :)

    Yes, I'm here 3 years later, with a gorgeous BF109E without a motor! I love your videos; your voice is soothing and so detailed in delivery. I cannot find any Sea Kings in the US, so I was wondering if @Diecast Rescue has found a source for a replacement motor. If not, I'll try getting an ultra low RPM motor to show off the propeller motion in my diorama scene. Cheers!

    Wonderful again, I am restoring the series also. Have a faulty spitfire motor. I have taken the motor apart, cleaned the brushes and etc and now it works but seems to have a position error. Turns off when plane is pointing upward and goes full speed when pointing down. Fiddled and fiddled to no avail. Looks like I need a job lot with a Sea King helicopter!

    • @diecastrescue3597
      @diecastrescue3597  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wires are probably too low or too high on the commutator although the rotor should not float backwards and forwards very much (crashes not withstanding) and don't forget it might be an electrical earth problem. That is why I solder that wire on the motor.

    • @geoffquickfall
      @geoffquickfall 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Diecast Rescue: haven’t given up yet! I was also thinking the seat at the rear of the motor might be binding. A little oil improved the result but still weak in climbing mode. Was there a bearing (tiny steel ball) as the shaft / spindle does have play. I might install a ball bearing from a ball point pen nib to take up the play and provide a bearing surface.

    • @diecastrescue3597
      @diecastrescue3597  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I dont think so its a plastic bearing in theory I assume dinky only intended the toys to last a few hours at most and not have someone trying to get it working again 45 years later. :)

    • @geoffquickfall
      @geoffquickfall 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diecast Rescue : I would agree, watched your video again and I have to check the bearing contact at the positive end internally. Might be some corrosion. If needs be I can add the ball point from a ball point pen. They are tiny!

    Properly "BF-109", there never was an "ME-109". Early in the war, Willy Messerschmitt worked for the Bayerisch Flugzeugwerke. Their designation was BF. Same as Kurt Tank was designer for Focke-Wulf, with the FW-190. Later during the war, the designers' names were used for designations. Thus the ME-262 jet fighter, and TA-152 fighter developed from the FW-190.
    Dinkys are interesting models, better detailed than similar offerings from Matchbox. Good project!
