Dinky Toys Stuka dive bomber No 721 Diecast airplane custom restoration

  • In this video I restore a 1970s Dinky 721 Stuka JU87 Divebomber which has been very abused and is missing its canopy, bomb, bomb release mechanism, propeller, tail wheel and is bent out of shape.
So I replace everything bar the tail wheel as its part of the main casting and I bend the whole diecast aircraft back into shape using a heat gun. This actually does no harm to the paintwork but the remaining decals do melt but as they are ruined already i am not concerned about it.
Then i give it a more realistic paint job and new transfers.
This model was brought out as a movie tie in with the 1969 film Battle of Britain from 1969.

A very tidy restoration on a model which, I think, nearly every UK kid had - along with the Spitfire. The original bomb, which had a slot to add a percussion cap, had quite a realistic destructive force. Dropped from a decent height, it could do quite a bit of damage to plastic Airfix stuff - would surely be an "adults only" toy nowadays, or the bomb would be made of plastic/polystyrene/foam. Got to protect today's precious little dears !!🤔
I noticed several comments on the volume on your videos. I find you pretty easy to listen to, without cranking my volume up too far; actually makes a pleasant change from the more usual ranting and shouting.
I've watched a few of your videos now and you just gained a new subscriber. I like the "slightly different" choice of subjects.
    Cheers for now,🍻
    Dougie.

What a great toy that Ju87b was! It, and the Spitfire 1a, were released to coincide with the late 1960's movie 'The Battle Of Britain'. They were among the 'Must Have' toys of 1968/69. The Stuka's bomb was a cap-firing, heavy little diecast piece, that, if released whilst 'flying' your Stuka, would go through a window with ease.

@@robertgarrett4046 - A Mark II has cannon, as it was thought that the .303 machine guns did not inflict enough damage. The Dinky toy was labelled a 1a, although it could have been any version up to a mk V.

In Germany every nazisymbol are forbidden to be shown in public, even on models like this. The Swastikas where historical correct, yes, but not allowed in our time in Germany in no way. (In privat it is o.K. but not i public exhibiton!) With the swastikas on it this video couldn't be shown in Germany.

Nice job. I do think you could increase the voice volume a bit. And at 3:42, it seemed like the tail was still bent to the left a bit, looking from above, or was that the camera angle? I could not verify as on later shots it was never seen from straight above.

Car restorations are great, but I love that you tried something different.
Regarding the painting scene, I don’t want to watch you paint in real time, but I’d like to still watch it. Would you consider 2x or 3x. The choppy speed was hard to watch.
Regarding the restoration itself: I’m wondering about painting the windows. You may be right that it would have been to much....but I don’t know. I kind of want to see it.
I hope I didn’t offend you with my criticisms. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I subscribed and I look forward to more content.

Still have the 2 Stukas and a Spitfire we got back in '69. Missing a bomb and a cracked canopy on one. Tail wheel missing from the Spitfire and electrics need sorting. They came with different sets of plastic stick on markings so you could have a choice.
When painting yellow, spray a light coat of white first. The yellow will not seem as transparent. Same if you are doing an orange colour too.
A nice restoration on a very well used(abused) model.
