    As Thailand's military tightens its grip on the nation, General Prayuth Chan-ocha has now received a royal endorsement - an essential piece of legitimacy - for his new position as head of the National Council for Peace and Order. Activists, politicians, students, and pro-government Red Shirt leaders continue to be detained by the junta, though it's not clear how many have been detained. Former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is said to have been released, though no one has seen or heard from her yet.
    The junta is continuing to strike at the media and free speech, vowing to deal with any opposition or critics with force. Yet anti-coup sentiment is on the rise. Each day protesters appear on the streets in the evening in busy areas to call for a return to democracy. For all the army's threats, it has not yet used any deadly force against the protesters on the streets.
    VICE News is on the ground in the "Land of Smiles" as the situation becomes more volatile and conflict engulfs the nation.

    First it was about the prime minister and the king, now it's about a dictator coup? Well that escalated quickly

    • @wyvernlord23
      @wyvernlord23 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      First it was about Yugoslavian independence, and then it was about the worlds largest militaries struggle for dominance.
      Things like that tend to escalate very quickly.

      1manuscriptman Who the hell was talking about foreign intervention?
      If you didn't understand what I was saying, read about Franz Ferdinand, the Black Hand and WW1.
      My comment was an attempt, to show how seemingly small actions, can escalate, very quickly, into horrendous monsters.

    • @wyvernlord23
      @wyvernlord23 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. But I wasn't talking about the country Yugoslavia. I was talking about the Yugoslav people (Serbs included). Therefore, Yugoslav independence , which the black hand were fighting for.

    Thai's internal issues, let them resolve it themselves. Any intervention from the outside will only cause the situation to deteriorate and most possibly degrade into a civil war.
    By the way, hereditary dictatorship masquerades as democracy these days, not to mention the preselected candidates as well.. how is it different from autocracy? Well, besides the method of putting someone at helm, the end results is nevertheless the same irregardless of the small deviations.

    • @wyvernlord23
      @wyvernlord23 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "Any intervention from the outside will only cause the situation to deteriorate and most possibly degrade into a civil war."
      Honestly, any intervention from the Inside might cause a civil war.

    • @hiddenentitytwo
      @hiddenentitytwo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      wyvernlord23
      A foreign agent from a different land will not care about the indigenous and the more immediate consequences if they decide to intervene, most likely to secure an interest from the conflict. However, an internal intervention will be taken with considerable care as not to damage its relations and interest that are closely linked to the people that they know and care for.
      In summary, an internal intervention is happening at this point in time even as we're discussing here, its a natural cause which is taken with mindful thoughts and calculus instead of a reckless one from a foreign agent.

    • @wyvernlord23
      @wyvernlord23 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      無窮大 "By intervention from the inside", I meant if the citizens start killing each other.

      wyvernlord23
      There has been many deaths resulting from random beatings, assassination, and etc. ever since the protest started, VICE is not doing a good job covering them.
      Anyhow, this is their internal problem, an outsider like us should continue to observe and act only when the situation really demands us to, for now, this is a not-so-common event happening in their country, I believe after so many instances, they should have a better understanding and solution to the problem themselves.

    • @wyvernlord23
      @wyvernlord23 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      And that seems like what the powers that be are doing. No one wants a civil war here. A secure Thailand, is a secure region. But the most intervention I see is a condemnation and sanctions, but that's only if the military does something REALLY stupid.

    The establishment will irritate you: pull your beard, flick your face to make you fight. Because once they've got you violent, then they know how to handle you.

    It's 100 people from Thaksin Shinawatra's "red Sunday" group - this is confirmed. Please note that some of the protesters are even still wearing their red shirts, and some are wearing their "respect my vote" shirts which was from the last ham-handed re-brand of this violent, diminutive street mob.
    The "red Sunday" group was allowed to protest despite the new laws - it was only after VIOLENCE at Victory Monument that the government decided to break them up. Even the idiot reporting admits that the mob is confronting the soldiers. and there is video RIGHT HERE IN THIS REPORT of the "red shirts" trying to strangle and beat a WOMAN that disagreed with them!!!! They can also be seen attacking soldiers and VICE cleverly omitted the mob trying to overturn a military vehicle and vandalizing another.
    VICE somehow how knows all the contrived pro-Thaksin talking points - is that because they have no clue how to conduct a real journalistic investigation, or because they never intended to be journalists in the first place?
    PS - Junta is Spanish so the J is pronounced like wh- in "who." Hard to find good help these days, especially when the job requires dishonesty and shamelessness.

    i dont understand why people dont ignore protesters, if the government deploys more troops it either always influences new protesters or brings about more, half the time if you ignore them and nothing comes them gathering in the streets then yelling chants for a couple hours they all get bored and leave, it is completely unnecessary to go and confront a group of protesters, now if they confront a building then that's something else but to deploy troops randomly in downtown streets is the stupidest shit ever

    • @Synnerization
      @Synnerization 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      'cuz if you leave them alone with no one watching they have a tendency to riot. VICE is being a bit bombastic with it claims of imminent civil war. Thailand has had something like 12 bloodless coups since the monarchy stepped down from absolute rule. In Thailand the military serves as a sort of balancing act. When civil unrest from politics gets too high they come in and tell them to chill the fuck out for a while and then they go back to elections.

    You may hear a word "Holy traffic cone" which is placed by PDRC (or pro-coup supporters today). People who move this traffic cone may tend to be attacked by PDRC with warfare weapons, knives and grenades.
    Today PDRC supporters disguise themselves as pro-coup supporters and allegedly blame pro-democracy groups as terrorists (You may have seen through this video on boards displayed by those group such as "support military anti-terrorism). Pro-democracy supporters call for only elections but they are closely monitored by police and soldiers. Many of them are still being detained in military barracks across Thailand. Recently one Belgian national is caught and taken to somewhere withheld. This is a situation in Thailand. Without help from Western countries, political stance in this country is no longer ruled under democracy regime.

    The majority support the military. The US have a delusion that democracy is the only "good" form of government.
    In reality most of the people of Bangkok just want the government to settle down so that they can continue living as normal.
    The King backs the military, and the people of Thailand back the king.

      Dane Alexandre No but I'd like to visit. I have been following the conflict and the yellow shirts are clearly a pro-elitist minority. Most protesters are not so openly antidemocratic unless they are a minority. But they have the military on their side so they have no reason to worry about democracy getting in their way. Also, I suspect that Thaksin AND his sister wouldn't have won for so many elections if they were so unpopular.

      Every living organism is dependent upon it's environment and other organisms for survival. No living in this universe is truly self-made. First of all, mammals(including humans) have to depend upon their parents to survive when small and for training to make it in life. You don't think that your parents influenced who you are now? What about the countless workers, without them rich people would be nothing. Unless you are a mentally ill psychopath with no empathy, you have built in mirror neurons who exist simply to learn and understand others. It seems evolution itself doesn't think you are self-made but has hard-wired you to be made with the help of others. That's why it provided you with the ability to communicate learn etc. The process of learning itself is proof of this. There is no way to ever make it in the world, without learning things that others discovered. Don't forget that humans are social animals not tigers, with the small exception of a number of mentally ill sociopaths, psychopaths and narcissists, who usually have problems in life and destroy themselves and others

    Thailand does things the "Thai" way, it might not make sense from an outside perspective, but to Thais it is what it is. Take prostitution for example, it is illegal in the country of Thailand, but the police tolerate it for obvious reasons(Eg. Sex tourism). There are a lot of contradictions in Thai society, but like I said before it might not make a lot of sense from an outside perspective. Thailand is what it is.

I also live in USA, but my opinion is us shouldn't intervene Thailand situation cause USA did not know what was happened? so I hope my country will get back to normal.
