Penguin: the Thai protest leader risking jail

  • The Guardian follows Parit Chiwarak, known as Penguin, one of Thailand's prominent protest leaders as he helps organise one of the biggest anti-government rallies in years. He and many other young people are risking prison to demand a significant democratic overhaul: they want the power and wealth of the monarchy curbed. Parit said he already faced 18 charges, including sedition, for his involvement in previous demonstrations. More rallies are expected in Bangkok on Wednesday

    Very brave young man. Some people are born poets, some carpenters, some teachers and some like this young man are destined for revolution. I got chills watching the 3 finger salute. May you turn Thailand into the country it needs to be. Cheers

    Thailand never had political stability. I lost count how many times they deposed a sitting govt via protests or coup d etat since the 70s. There was one time when they had 2 coup in one year alone
