I said I'd NEVER do an Epoxy River...then I thought of THIS....

  • I join the epoxy resin river trend to make DIY double barn doors for my bathroom renovation, but things go wrong. Check out Ariat Work’s BOGO 50% OFF Sale: www.ariat.com/rebar-cotton-st...
    As one of the last parts of my abandoned building renovation, I broke the bank for my bathroom barn doors with some gorgeous bookmatched live edge maple slabs. We do some live edge woodworking with the slabs to make an epoxy resin river split down the middle of the two bookmatched slabs to make two barn doors. This is a twist on the river table trend that I have not seen before, and there are some darn satisfying epoxy pours in this one. But, things also go off the rails… will we be able to recover and save the doors? Watch to find out!
    Oh, and I also show how to install barn door hardware for the double barn doors.
    This project was one of the last loose ends to complete my abandoned building renovation, which means....full (formerly) abandoned building tour is coming soon!

    Great book for a beginner . th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.

    Looks amazing. One of your best projects ever (made all the more rewarding by the challenges you had to overcome). I would suggest a thin black felt pad for the closing sides of each door, so that nobody accidentally slams the doors together and damages the epoxy.

      @@modustrial You can fit rubber astragals, but on these doors, it would be a ton of work to look good. It really needs something substantial to prevent damage. The power of those doors closing should not be underestimated. Maybe rubber stops with springs on the track. Careful, over time they tend to wear out and allow the doors to slam.

    a tip I saw someone else use, if you're using a fully opaque resin color, you can fill some of the inner part with simple plywood, and just make sure that the top 30% or so is resin, you can use less than half the epoxy in this way. it does depend on the resin and color, but with a simple test pour, you can figure out if it'll work for your mix or not.

    • @natarem
      @natarem ปีที่แล้ว

      yea he does but he's also usually making tables where you can hide that c channel on the bottom. here it's a door where both sides will be visible at some point. i'm not sure how c channel would interact with epoxy but one possible solution could be routing c channel slots in the top and bottom of each door, then pouring black epoxy on top of it so you'd basically have black epoxy stripes going across the back of the doors. the tricky thing about that is that it all happens before you cut to final dimensions so you would need to get them in straight lines so you could match that later.
