  • In this abandoned building renovation episode, we have a long overdue building update tour! We are almost done with the renovation, but I felt like I was losing touch with everyone a bit, and wanted to give a quick update of all the things you haven't seen or may have missed over the last 6 months.

I personally enjoy also smaller additions to your home and do not need the final tour already in 2-3 months. Even if it takes years, you add always interesting stuff which is worth it‘s own video - so from my point of view: don‘t stress yourself, take the time it needs.

Artists never finish their work lol. And his work is a living piece of art that he's living in. That in and of itself means even the final tour will never be the final tour. The build will end like Slayer. 20 final, final tours lol.

being reminded of the condition the building was in… you’ve definitely done a fantastic job! the eye painting in the kitchen feels a bit too Gatsby for me but the long hallway, steps to the kitchen and steps up to the roof (lovely natural light) are absolutely begging for a gallery fall or feature piece! any cool photography from those NatGeos that would be nice to feature? if you want it more low-key you could always make them all b&w to line the hallway to the kitchen 🤔

Great to see you are at last taking a holiday. I would suggest spoiling yourself and having 2 weeks so you have time to film sharks and whatever else you want to capture then just put the camera down and enjoy doing nothing but pampering yours. There are few I know of who had life threatening moments that bounced back as you have and that's a testament to your determination not to let it prevent you from fulfilling your dreams. Having had a moment like yours back in 2018 when I got neck & throat cancer I know how much determination is needed to lift yourself up and be even more determined to get back to work. I also realised that there had to be time for just sitting back and unwinding just for a while and the benefits are significant. I am so looking forward to the next installment with the new refreshed you. Stay safe J.

Make sure there is a shaded area on your roof yard for your dog. Because it can get very hot in the sun. You need to make sure there's water and shade. Make it a garden :)

This "mini" tour is great! Glad you're taking a fun break. After the last 3 years you totally deserve it. Your new puppy will help you learn to take life a bit easier and relax a bit more. We should all take time to enjoy life and learn that everything doesn't need to be done "right now".

  • @DebbiHobbs

Mike. you should make use of your leak by building a corner planter and filling it with plants. Would give the area a pop of green and would remove the unsightly bin. Once your leak is gone you can keep it or move it somewhere else. I have been following you since you first starting working on this whole project. I have to admit that I love everything you've done, and I've enjoyed watching things progress.

FYI if you want an easy option for doggo toiletting, say the word 'toilet' or whatever you need when you go out the door and when they do their business. They will soon associate that word with 'out the door and get down to business' fairly quick with less mucking about, and use different words for 'walk' and 'park'. Once winter comes you appreciate them going out and doing things quickly vs 30 min meandering

You should never have anything behind a treadmill, or if you do, always wear the safety cord. Because if you fall and get stuck between the mill and the bed (or wall), it only takes a second to buff a massive amount of skin off. I love the project. Can’t wait to see it finished. I’ll post a link to a great dog training video for you.

You should do a dye test, different days, put a dye in a specific area where you think the leak may be coming from and see if the bucket fills with that dye.

Your bathroom sliding doors are one of the best features in your home.

  • @arosenberger87
    @arosenberger87 ปีที่แล้ว

For the leak: I would put money on it not being the door itself, but rather an improperly flashed surface and the water migrating to the door because of a slope...
So, to test for where it is leaking... Add tracing dye to various areas one by one, spray with a hose and wait until the water either appears or doesn't appear but this can be a long wait, sometimes days.
Along the edges of where the wall meets the roof flashing is where I would start.

Hi, I really enjoy your videos. I am a house cleaner. While I was watching I happen to notice a bottle of rejuvenate floor cleaner on your desk. Your floors are way to nice to use crap like that. It will leave a residue and build up that can damage your floors and make it harder to keep clean. Most also have a wax finish when dried. Dirt will stick to it and nothing but time will get it off. In the mean time your floors will look like they were installed and not maintained in years. Find a no rinse floor cleaner like Bona. My favorite is Zep no rinse floor cleaner and disinfectant. Especially cause you have Tex. If Tex has an accident use Nature's Miracle Urin Distoryer as a spot cleaner. For #2 hot water and Dish soap. Follow up with the disinfectant cleaner after. To keep them looking brand-new use a flat mop, a bucket of hot water, and a bottle of the disinfectant. Section by section spray cleaner. Let dwell for a min. Wipe, rinse, and repeat.

Hey Mike, how about turning a frustration into a project? If you have the leak isolated to that one spot, how about putting a potted small tree or fern there? It would be something that you never have to worry about watering. I know it's a temporary solution for a permanent problem, but it would be a good use of that space, extra clean air, etc. until you fully fix that problem. Just a thought. Oh, and everything is SO AWESOME!!! Stay healthy and happy guy😀

"I've been pretty stressed. So I'm going to do some shark diving." That's quite a way to destress, I'll give you that.
The leak could maybe be coming from a pipe/hole inside the wall maybe? Had one in my room that was coming from the adjacent room from the 2nd floor and it was doing a zigzag through some gaps.

I’m my experience, with a huge project like this, the first 3/4 always flies, even if it takes years. The inspiration and the motivation is always super strong in the first 3/4. However, that final leg…always the hardest to finish. All the little details that were put off to focus on and tackle the large ones add up and they cause the motivation to drop drastically. Plus, the good-enough mentality starts to sink in, especially if you’re living _in_ your project. Once you fully adapt to living with certain flaws, it becomes harder to care about fixing them. Also, at a certain point you just want to start living again and not caring about grout lines and caulking mitered joints.
So, go on your vacation, leave the work in Chicago, and come back with renewed vigor. Best of luck, and have fun!

To find the roof leak you can try doing an flood test. You might find where the problem comes from and other possible issues. This is usually done when a roof is just finished but you can do it anytime. You can do it inside a perimeter or just do the full roof. It also gives you a great topic for a video!
Hope it helps! Happy to see your health is better! Great job with the house! Cheers

Dogs teach us to slow down and enjoy life. They relieve our stress and remind us to take care of ourselves. I noticed that he’s a puller and before to long he’s going to be extremely strong. My golden retriever of 32 months was/is a puller. Extremely strong on a regular lease. The minute I put on a Gentle Leader he immediately stopped pulling. It doesn’t work for all dogs, like our last retriever, but now it’s enjoyable to actually go for a walk. Love your space and your channel. Take care.

On your leak…. Try to determine if it is a driving rain problem or a puddling problem. Tape up a plastic doorway zipper over the outside doorway accept for the bottom 2-3 inches. If your leak stops the rain is either driving in or hitting the door and running down the face. Then make the gap at the bottom wider and wider till you get the leak back.
