Honestly the most high quality part of your build series so far. These countertops really standout and make everything look so much better. I think it matches the industrial look with the brick and metal around the entire place. Great video cant wait to see everything when its finished!
The amount of time and effort, as well as technique and skill, that goes into crafting those countertops totally justifies the cost. The end result is absolutely gorgeous and looks incredible with the white marble backsplash along the long wall. I also think the aesthetic of modern countertops and cabinetry mixed with the original brick walls is the perfect contrast. I can't wait to see the finished product, especially that wood cutting board section on the island.
As usual, you put together a top notch video and your entire project is a mind blowing endeavor. I was fortunate to visit the site and see just how much hard work you are putting in. Not only in the renovations, but the time to film and edit it all. Your results are simply fantastic!!!!! It was an absolute blast working with you, Kat and of course Bruce on the counters. I look forward to another project soon! I have to say my favorite part of the video was the Ariat promo the three of you did....well done.
Honestly the first concrete countertop video i've seen that made me want them. Nothing against the folks who like the self-poured style, just not my thing. These look great though.
Looks great. Love the design aesthetic. No critiques here - one option for your sink. In my place I added a instant on hot water dispenser. Same style as your faucet and under mount. Kohler brand. We love it and you have tons of room if you want to add it later. Great for coffee or hot water for cleaning. My concrete dining table was made about 18 years ago. Jealous at how the technology has come along. Your counter weighs less than my table. Thanks for blurring out your dogs junk. Don't want to get any pups excited. Great job.
Never, ever, in a million years will I ever go through that process myself. That said, this is definitely one the of most fascinating videos you've posted in my opinion. Unbelievable level of planning, strategy and tactics to get to the end result. And I am so happy you didn't encounter any major fuck ups!
This looks amazing! Honestly I thought 10k was excessive at first, but the attention to detail is so exacting and satisfying. I definitely think I would scale some materials back if I did it on a budget, but you do get what you pay for here.
I don't know how much stone countertops cost in the Chicago area but around here they end up being $70-120 a square foot depending on options and how wild you want to go. For the fairly modest difference in cost and compared to some of the drawbacks that stone can have, concrete seems like a fairly strong contender.
I’m a huge fan of concrete surfaces and your countertops turned out great! Tom seemed like a very down to earth guy I’d be willing to support by buying his product for a couple of my future projects.
If loved your series so far. I’m impressed that you had the strength and courage to give up what I think might be a good paying job to do something that you love and enjoy so much. Stellar! Very likely going to go with concrete counters vs epoxy when the time to redo our kitchen comes around. Having done both laminate and epoxy kitchens I would choose laminate for it's durability and options.... although epoxy is kinda fun. But concrete is more durable than both.
I think it is absolutely stunning, however in my opinion, the little marble backdrop on the long side of the kitchen adds just another little marvellous detail to the concrete ct which I believe fits really well together.
I absolutely love it I just wish you'd done some up for the backsplashes as well. But overall it's a gorgeous countertop. Also something you forgot to talk about is how concrete counter tops age... Sealers prevent some stains but over time they will pick up scratches and stains like drink rings and the like. To me this isn't a negative... I love the look of aged surfaces and the way concrete stains is pretty awesome, in my book. But for others thinking about this you need to be aware of this so you aren't disappointed. For me it's something I love about my counters.
Dude, people never realize how much work it actually takes to make a custom job look good as you did. Most people assume you can just through things together in a day or two. I allot 4-8 weeks depending on just a wood dining table because of wood movement during the build, finishing time, and running into any mistakes that might happen. You have to account for ordering time for products that are not on hand and so forth....all of this is just labor. Customers never understand this because it takes away time from family and friends. YOU HAVE TO CHARGE FOR THIS....PERIOD!!!

Dude. Those countertops look absolutely *stellar*! My wife and I are in the process of figuring out what we're going to do with our kitchen remodel and while we have really nice granite countertops, I'm seriously considering changing them out to concrete after seeing how yours came out. The process itself looks pretty straight forward and I have space to make them in my garage....now it's convincing the wife that this is the way to go! Also beware, who does your concrete counter tops. If done wrong they stain and chip really easy. You can get a dark grey quartz countertop that looks almost exactly like concrete, except it doesn't stain at all and is much more polished. If you want to be able to place your hot pans on the countertop, then avoid sealed concrete and quartz and stick to granite primarily.
@@patrickgolladay6913 Well it depends what type of quartz you get. There are certain types that get a little more agitated than others, like pure white for example. that stuff stains super ez. I guess it all depends on the surface finish of the piece. If you get a quartz top with a glossy finish and a good brand, getting that to stain is very difficult. Compared to concrete its day and night. If you take Marble for example, that stuff also stains easier than quartz, because it is a relatively soft material in comparison. But you are absolutely right, quartz does stain too if you choose the wrong quality that's for sure.
Without question, those counter tops are totally next level and they’re not everyone else’s bloody granite! I cannot clearly express how over granite counter tops I am!

Those are the best looking counter tops I have ever seen. I made a counter top with regular footing concrete in the past and am still really happy with it, I just love concrete. What you have done takes it to a whole other level. Good job man.
It's really nice, but I'm 100% sure you can achieve similar results with 90% less cost. Regardless, it looks really nice. Personally I'd prefer lighter colors but that's just me. Great video as usual!
This feels very much "Japanese 1000 layer folded Katana". Cool in principle, but a modern forged steel sword (even if Katana shaped) will perform just as well (or probably better) with significantly less effort. Like, I'm not saying the product doesn't take massive amounts of expert and intensive labor, and that has its associated cost tied to it, I just don't think there's any point other than novelty.
Well, yeah, if you go for something high-end you'll pay a lot more for something that isn't that much better, functionally. A high-end wristwatch might cost 100 times more while not looking that much different or telling the time better. You can say that about anything high-end.
100% you can. The question is on what scale do they do it. I work at a concrete mixing plant, and yea its cheap if you do it at a scale, even if you include glass/steel fibers and additives. No idea why not just use a vibrating table to set it nicely tho. But considering our cost (eu) is around 50-100 eur per cubic meter of concrete... yea this seems insanely expensive, there are costs with the custom made shells tho.
I have 2 left hands when it comes to building stuff like this, no skills what so ever. That is why i enjoy your video's so much. You are a very likeable guy and the stuff you build looks great, very much my taste. Even though the build isnt ready yet i know for sure i would move into a place like that in a heartbeat. Keep it up, looking forward to the next episode.
My experience with concrete counter tops is they STAIN super easy. Curious how this more expensive and better built counter top will hold up over time?
That is 100% true, but these new two part coatings seems to help. Concrete is super porous and needs a lot of care.. The reason to go with concrete is they are super cheap (around $5 sqft if you DIY)..
Just amazing. If I walked in to that kitchen not knowing they were concrete I probably would have guessed some kind of black quartz!! They are really great.
thats the funny thing. this is an absurd price for concrete counter tops. ive done concrete countertops for as cheap as the glue on laminate and they look just like granite. granted i did them for myself so im saving in labour costs but its certainly not going over $2k if i hired out to do this.
@@cobyceltic9736 I looked at prices here in Sweden And this would probably not be more than 3k usd. But maybe there are details that makes a difference.
This turned out Absolutely beautiful and very clean lines. So happy to see a new video on your house and shop building build out. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.
Common mistake using the calking gun backwards. Cut the tip to the radius you want, then push the gun through the bead. This pushes the calk into the gap and radiuses the bead.
@@bears23rely With Modustrial's method you have to use something to push the bead into the corner and shape it into a curve, otherwise it is just a round bead. With 'My' method, that is already done - you just need to wipe off the excess (With practice, there is none - control the speed and delivery). Usually, builders use their finger to round the bead. This introduces bacteria into the caulk (When using in a kitchen/bathroom) and the mold shows up a few years later. If you must use a finger, wrap it in a glove or plastic bag.
The first thing that drew my attention to your work was a concrete project that you did with wood and white concrete. I feel in love with the way you made the product look refined. I feel the same way about your countertops. The smooth, sleek finish and the attention to detail are unlike most concrete countertops. I didn't think I would like the detail on the waterfall edge, but it looks great. For $10,000, I would go with a man-made quartz product, but that's because I like the look, it's sanitary and I'm cheap. Your kitchen is gorgeous.
Depending on the color and from where it came from $55 - 200 per sq. ft. Of course there are more (much more) expensive natural stones, and also not every stone can have knockouts e.g for sinks etc.
I really like how you justify the labor cost! Skilled labor isn’t cheap, cheap labor isn’t skilled! I’m absolutely loving the project everything about it is outstanding!
They’re nice countertops, but I feel like part of what’s nice about concrete countertops is that you can get a very good result for a lot less than natural stone, whereas in this case you could get a really really nice natural stone for the same price as these countertops. I don’t think it’s worth the cost.
exactly. the whole reason for concrete counters is pour in place diy for $500. plus pour in place you can make that large piece by the sink 1 piece instead of 2. use Z forms and save all that time with the melamine forms. And then ruining it with a urethane top coat that will flake over time. Use a penetrating sealer, not a topical sealer.
I have done a lot of DIY projects on several homes in the last decade - would love to see this same product used as a backsplash or a wall - is that possible? Definitely worth the extra effort - looks awesome. Simply a cut above. Thanks for sharing
I would of said "hell no" to concrete but, they look amazing and really high quality! So you have changed my mind and I would consider them in the future x
I've yet to see a concrete countertop that doesn't have a chipped edge or corner, and isn't filled with tiny bubbles. I see why a TH-camr would go for this - it's a fascinating process to document. But the end result looks less impressive than every other type of stone countertop.
Hi Mike, love the way the counters turned out. Not something I would do in my own house, but I've seen it in several other houses. Shout out to Kat and Bruce, nice to have good helpers. I've loved all your projects. Projects keep up the great work!
Countertops look epic for your house, good job! Also thought Bruce nipping at Kat's backside was funny until my cat headbutted me in the nose, silly critters
U ain’t lying, I’ve made a few sets of concrete tops and it is very labor intensive, very time consuming, and most people do not want to spend $100 per sq foot for tops!!! Hence the reason I don’t make them anymore!! I love the looks of them and your kitchen looks “real nice”.
As someone who isn't a big fan of concrete in the home (it's always felt very cold to me), I can't deny that these look very sharp and are hands down the best looking concrete countertops I've seen.

@@Meoiswa Except forging a traditional Japanese katana is actually difficult, this is child's play in comparison.

The reason to go with concrete is they are super cheap (around $5 sqft if you DIY)..
you should always use a sealer
Just amazing. If I walked in to that kitchen not knowing they were concrete I probably would have guessed some kind of black quartz!! They are really great.
I would choose marble any day over concrete, especially if it's cheaper, but I guess that's a personal preference
I really like the look of the concrete. To me it would depend on the overall design of the kitchen
thats the funny thing. this is an absurd price for concrete counter tops. ive done concrete countertops for as cheap as the glue on laminate and they look just like granite. granted i did them for myself so im saving in labour costs but its certainly not going over $2k if i hired out to do this.
God bless.
Thank you for blurring the hot dog, not sure what would have happened if I'd been subjected to such a horrifying view. 😆
Very satisfying to see those counters go from form to finished product. Looks great!
Common mistake using the calking gun backwards. Cut the tip to the radius you want, then push the gun through the bead. This pushes the calk into the gap and radiuses the bead.
The calking came out perfect tho ?
@@bears23rely With Modustrial's method you have to use something to push the bead into the corner and shape it into a curve, otherwise it is just a round bead. With 'My' method, that is already done - you just need to wipe off the excess (With practice, there is none - control the speed and delivery). Usually, builders use their finger to round the bead. This introduces bacteria into the caulk (When using in a kitchen/bathroom) and the mold shows up a few years later. If you must use a finger, wrap it in a glove or plastic bag.
I really like the detail on the edge the waterfall counter!
That's what we would charge for a custom built counter top!
How much would using marble instead of this concrete cost? I would definitely prefer the look of that.
Depending on the color and from where it came from $55 - 200 per sq. ft. Of course there are more (much more) expensive natural stones, and also not every stone can have knockouts e.g for sinks etc.
A lot more
@@Aeneiden How much more though? He said marble would be cheaper at the start of the video.
@@MASI1212 oh I missed that, but I dont know, maybe it depends which country you're in
I really like how you justify the labor cost!
So you have changed my mind and I would consider them in the future x
thank you!
probably because they don't look like concrete at all?
Loving the new thumbnail logo! The countertops are very sleek.
I've yet to see a concrete countertop that doesn't have a chipped edge or corner, and isn't filled with tiny bubbles. I see why a TH-camr would go for this - it's a fascinating process to document. But the end result looks less impressive than every other type of stone countertop.
These are probably the best looking concrete countertops I’ve even seen. Great job!

you have made a true believer out of me and I love how all of the elements are coming together
Boston terriers are the best! Countertops look awesome
All I can say about the counter tops is WOW! They look absolutely stunning. Can't wait to see the whole kitchen reveal.
Those look absolutely incredible Mike! Awesome job you guys
I think it’s beautiful. If I were doing an industrial look I would absolutely put this in.
Love the counters! Glad you made the call to finish like that in the end!
The countertops look great and to add to the industrial look!
I think those countertops are stunning! Well done!!
Thank you!! 🙏
Perfect choice. The concrete contrasts beautifully with that gorgeous exposed brick
Thanks for sharing the process with us. So much hard work goes into it, but they turned out beautifully. Love the finish.
that great to see you supporting those who help support you, and getting what you want out of your project
I have always hated concrete countertops. But... I have to say this video might have changed my mind. I love the matte finish & the final look. Beautiful!!
The finished product looks absolutely amazing! WOW! The hard work behind it just makes it all worth it. Another great video. Thanks you.
thank you!
It really looks amazing, super cool, modern and clean. I love it! I watch the videos with my 6 yo daughter and she also loved them! Thank you for this amazing content!
Love it. Best looking concrete tops I've seen and well worth the effort & cost.
Just stumbled upon this video and I wanted to say how much I appreciated it as a professional. You showed what actually goes into these concrete countertops. There’s a lot out there it’s challenging to constantly combat the bad information when talking with potential clients who have been “doing homework” on the internet. Tom’s always been a great guy in this industry and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad thing about him. Great video Man and beautiful countertops!
Thanks! This means a lot coming from a pro!
Those countertops...... Man....
Sooo gorgeous! Absolutely love'em! Perfect color and finish to match the brick wall aswell as those cabinets. You guys did a great job. And yes, I would most definitely want countertops like that in my home.
