Making a STAR WARS Table from Concrete & Epoxy Resin

  • This episode shows how to make a DIY Star Wars-inspired coffee table from concrete, wood, epoxy resin, and LED strips. Check out Wagner Meters: bit.ly/329zNol
    I combined Death Star style lighting with GFRC concrete, woodworking, and epoxy resin that is backlit with LEDs to make this Star Wars inspired coffee table. My goal was to design a DIY concrete and epoxy coffee table that every Star Wars fan would recognize as being inspired by Star Wars, but that non-Star Wars fans would just see as a cool table design.
    I used my X-Carve CNC to carve foam knockouts for the melamine concrete form, then poured GFRC concrete over the foam. I removed the foam and poured epoxy resin in the gaps, which will diffuse the LED strips. I then used some woodworking techniques to make the leg and lower half of the coffee table from maple lumber. I also 3d printed clips that hold the LED strips in place under the epoxy resin.

    This table arrived well packaged and on time. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW Like another reviewer advised, I pulled everything out and made sure everything was included (everything was!). I built it alone and it took me about an hour. The color is great and for the price the lift part works well. As others have mentioned, it’s not the smoothest opening/closing, but it works. The screws do show, but I plan to order white sticker covers if that bothers us too much. Really happy with this table! UPDATE: it’s been over a year since we got this coffee table and we still love it! It gets HEAVY use as our dining table, foot rest, and school desk. Over time, the opening and closing mechanism has gotten smoother. I added a new photo with the white screw cover stickers. They blend in perfectly and make it look a little cleaner. 100% recommend!!!

    Hello again from Germany,
    i would also like to venture into projects in which you use the hp50 concrete mix.
    however i have big problems to find comparable products here in germany.
    i mean it could be powdered concrete? Correct?
    but what is the acrylic polymer?
    The only thing I can find here for this search term is called „Tiefgrund“ (primer for highly absorbent substrates).
    Could the sealer be a natural stone sealant?
    It would be great if you could help me.
    I'm looking forward to part 18 of your renovation.
    Thank you 😌

    Thank you so so much for such a detailed video. I am a visual artist. I just changed my medium to concrete. I am trying to find out what is the best way to apply concrete to wood or any other surfaces that I can attaché the concrete too. Well!! I am an artist and prefer cheaper material. Could you please let me know if you have a way to applying a thin layer of concreter on canvas or wood panel without it falling off the surface after curing time. Also do you know any product that seals the concrete and it is food safe. For example, if I want to make a plate and use it.

    People would shell good money for this. Make sure you don't label it as Star Wars stuff though. Disney would have your hide and keep your wallet

  • @ranekeisenkralle8265

    An impressive and cool piece, sure. I am just put off a bit by the paraphenalia from Diseny's (in my opinion) inferior version of what used to be an awesome IP. Saying the absolute least I possibly can: I am severely disappointed how Disney/Lucasfilm have treated George Lucas's work.
    If you happen to like those movies, fine by me, I just can't get over the cringeworthy stuff they put in there.
    But getting back to the project you completed here, one question: Why concrete? I mean you nailed the aesthetic, sure, but I can't quite wrap my head around concrete furniture. Perhaps that has to do with me preferring wood in most cases. Once the weather stabilized for summer I am probably going to touch up the table in our livingroom. When we moved to our new place it had to stay outside for a day or two and as such the sun has taken a bit of a toll on it - something I now need to fix.

    • @modustrial
      @modustrial  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks! Concrete is just a different aesthetic....it's the appearance of stone, similar to granite or marble, but you can form it into any shape you can dream up (i.e. fabrication is much easier than with granite or marble).
      The Rise of Skywalker was a huge f-up IMO. Recently, Disney seems to be doing better with Mandolorian and Clone Wars (the last episode of Clone Wars was probably one of the most emotional, intense, moments in all of Star Wars). So, I'm hoping Disney can continue to turn things around.... 🤞

    • @ranekeisenkralle8265
      @ranekeisenkralle8265 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@modustrial f-up is putting it mildly. To me they all range between bad, atrocious, and downright cultural vandalism - with Rogue One being the least bad of the bunch, but that doesn't make them good by any metric though. So much so that I couldn't even be bothered to watch the Rise of Palpatine('s granddaughter) - not even if they had paid me for it.
      But such is to be expected if you put someone in charge who hasn't the faintest idea of Star Wars and then hire the director who in collaboration with Alex Kurtzman already ruined Star Trek - let alone hiring another dude who "created" the colossal clusterf*** that followed (TLJ)
      Not to mention Disney/Lucasfilms ineptitude at keeping their own employees from insulting customers at every turn for not liking the product they shovelled out...
      Eh.. I better cut it here before i start ranting in earnest...
      At this point I am not even watching the supposedly decent stuff, because i still anticipate another TLJ to be pulled on the fans down the line. At least while the current "leadership" is still in place.
      Aaaanyhow.. let's get back to actually entertaining stuff - such as your videos, shall we?
      I posted a few ideas for the roof of your new place under the tour-video. not sure you saw it yet.
