Sir! I would like to thank you for taking the time to make this video. Last time I sent my lawn mower in when it wouldnt start, they told me it was a dirty carb and charged me a couple hundred to fix. When it didnt start this year I tried my non invasive tricks and nothing worked. It started but wouldn't stay running. Your vid covered EVERYTHING. That little round gasket had fallen off and i found it and didnt know where it went. I was so releaved when you brought it up cuz i now know where it goes. I took it all apart cleaned the carb and re assembled. I put gas in, looked for leaks. In the morning i went to try to start it and it started and stayed running!!!! WAAAA HOOOOO! I did it! I fixed my lawn mower with your help!!.THANK YOU!! I am doing an old lady happy dance right now. I did it!!! :-)
As a guy whos never done any sort of repair work on things like this, this video was a complete lifesaver. Took me about 90 minutes (lol) but following your steps made it easy and understandable. My 10 year old mower started right up like it was new. Thank you!
I fixed my lawn mower using your video! Your lawn mower was the closest to ours; plastic carburetor and very similar. Symptoms? Would not start and priming had no effect. This mower sat for multiple year periods with E10 gasoline drying out multiple times. Just like you said at 5:18, "if there's a hole spray through it." In my case, most of the holes didn't appear blocked, other than one of the carb ports that the plastic emulsion tube seals into (that pressed in white piece you removed). The one with the black o-ring, that hole in the carb itself seemed blocked or at least restricted. Put as much carb can spray pressure against it. That finally allowed the mower to start, but it would stall unless I pumped the choke. Ran it at high revs (about 10 minutes) by clamping (I know don't do that) the grounding stall lever on the handle so I could repeatedly press the red prime bulb. Dumped the old years-old E10 gasoline back into the gas container with lots of fresh new E10 gasoline. Refilled the mower tank to 1/4 full. Started it by pumping the prime bulb, but letting it almost stall this time. There must be a lot of negative vacuum from the engine as it stalls, because I could sense with each successive near-stall that it was clearing up, able to run on its own just fractions of a second longer with each near-stall. The ethanol must have been getting through one of the plugged orifices and doing what solvents do, dissolve the gummed up hydrocarbon olefins inside the carburetor. I kept letting it almost stall a few more times and voila, it ran on its own!!! A can a carb cleaner (mostly unused), your video, and a little patience. Thank you for this great video!! Success! Just need to let my family know that if they want to keep the mower running tip-top, they need to use it regularly. So obvious!
I took mine apart twice before I realized the carburetor was shot, ordered a new one of Amazon for $17, popped it on in about 15 minutes, mower runs great, thanks for the video, you made this job easy
Thank you so much! We were unable to start our mower even with starter fluid. My thirteen year old changed the spark plug and that didn't do the trick. Following your video we cleaned the carburetor and our lawn mower started right up! So awesome!
Super helpful video. My mower had been sitting for over a year and wouldn’t start. It took me about 30 minutes start to finish following this video and my mower started right back up. Thank you!
The dog barking is awesome lol Thanks for showing me how to do this , it took me 15 minutes i kinda followed your instructions paused to do each step using my ratchet. The clamping the 8mm and 7mm sockets bang on! For people having trouble with reassembly just push the carb into the hole it came from but hold it in position the screws line it up when you tighten them it goes in smooth. We have bad gas here i use 91 octane shell gas it gums up the carb every year after sitting all winter. I’ll be draining the gas carb and tank next winter and see if it gums up again. Thanks a ton for simplifying this job! My mom thinks I'm a mechanical genius lol it’s all thanks to you! I also deleted the second choke it really hates the gas and makes it run like crap so it runs awesome without it. It’s a no manual choke setup now so i have to check oil level before starting but totally worth it! Old lawn mowers are epic though if you can tune the carbs they will run on almost any flammable liquid but not these new mower engines.
Thank you thank you thank you! You just saved me a hundred dollars, a drive to the hardware store, and a lot of inconvenience. A couple notes, this was much easier when I took the top off. If anyone is struggling to put it back together, keep track of the choke (thin) and the throttle (thick) and do it in an elevated surface like a table or a work bench if you can lift the mower. Again, thanks! Off to mow!!
Mower’s been stored for three years. I took the carburetor apart and cleaned it but wouldn’t stay running. I watched your video and saw one mistake that I made and was able to fix it. I should’ve come here first. lol Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the instructional video. I had almost an identical carburetor hunting real badly. Followed your instructions to a "T", and runs great now. Thanks again.
Thank you! I watched this and got my Toro back up and running. Pulling that little white assembly with what I assume are the jets and cleaning those out I think was it. Draining all of the gas and finding water and debris was part of the problem.
Awesome video thank you so much!! After mower wouldn't start and trying other things I figured the carb needed to be cleaned but no idea how to do it. Followed your video and was up and running again quickly! Thanks again 😀
I take the plastic valve apart and clean everything. Also taking the 3 screws out of the recoil and getting it out of the way makes things a little easier and you'll be able to see all of the linkage and you don't have to fight but being able to see but I'm old and need all the light and space I can get lol. Battery tools are basically a must for saving time. 1/4" impact and ratchet are my to to along with 3/8" and then to air if needed. Great video.
Brilliant! Not quite 10 minutes but did it in 45. Would have been quicker if the tank wasn't full. Started first pull and purrs like a kitten. THANK YOU!!!!
Great video very helpful. Thank yiu. Suggestion. Better still photo of aligned reassembled carb. I was too quick to remember how I took it apart ! Lol thank you again
On the white plastic piece (Jet-Main), you can separate the L-shaped white piece (opening w/brass piece+center protrusion) with a small pair of pliers by wiggling it back and forth. It’s on there snuggly. This exposes 3 tiny orifices which commonly get plugged up with fuel varnish. You can visually see whether they are occluded or not. Using a set of orifice cleaning tools (set of small diameter bare wires basically), you can quickly clean out the 3 orifices. Reassemble by pressing L-shaped piece securely on to other white piece.
Will this fix gas leaking out of the filter compartment or do I (hopefully not) have to replace the carburetor? I appreciate the video and I am hoping I can do this to fix the leaking problem. Thanks
Great video . Clear , Concise , and easy to watch. Just the way instructional videos work best .THX man . (Li'l Yappy probably just wants one of those pet comfort jackets .....or his owners switched to day shift LOL)
I've had Briggs and Stratton engines all my mowing life! Always add stabilizer, never had to open a carburetor? I don't understand all this stuff, maintenance routine, I've always been good to go!
Same problem with the old carb and new carb old one was clogged got a new one it’s causing surging so I cleaned out the old one and same issue engine surging up and down please any info will help
Mine is overflowing. I set the needle right. I hope lolol. But it keep leaking out of the top right hole where the choke gasket is. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong
Does that carb have auto choke? Does it have the white piece behind the choke that the fuel cartridge fits into? I thought blew the white piece out when blowing my carb. With auto choke but I not sure it could have blown out. I took a white piece from another carb with no auto and couldn’t get it past the choke, so I M thinking maybe this one did not have the white piece.
Update; The rubber Irving that fits around the fuel cartridge broke. I took one out of a manual choke Briggs and took a chance that did not have the white ring behind the choke that the cartridge fits through. Fired it up and made a few passes along my yard. Hope it keeps running. It was running before when I took it back to owner then quit and would not start. Same as it did when I got home with it. I started it. Next day it would not start. Today it is going again. Sort of wish I had changed the old fuel line from tank in case it is coming apart in the inside and causing it to quit and not start after being run a little while.
@@RepairGang I was looking at some videos and they said when carb is not getting enough gas it could be a fuel jet or something like that. Is that what the white part u took out the carb was.
The plastic jet I have is not clear and no amount of carb cleaner is clearing it. No cleaner comes out of the end with the tiny brass circle. Any suggestions? Thanks
Compressed air or a can of air should work, but another option and it might make the mower start a little easier: A micro drill bit will clear the opening. A set of micro bits is very cheap. Use them by hand and always start smaller than you think it needs because you can't shrink a hole that is too big.
Same problem with the old carb and new carb old one was clogged got a new one it’s causing surging so I cleaned out the old one and same issue engine surging up and down
The last time my mower acted like this it cost me a repair bill and the cost to rent a mower. She's purring like a kitten now! Note: I was able to do this without disconnecting the throttle and choke lines.
is this what i need to do if i just used it 3 weeks ago and mowed my front yard and now when i try to start it, it acts like its going to (by the sound of it) but doesnt. the 2-3 times it did start, it shut right back off after 1.5 seconds :( my friend let me use it and i forgot to bring it in garage a few weeks ago so it got rained on and i know nothibg about this stuff so just trying to figure it out as quick as possible.. pls help lol
they make it look easy i'm struggling to get it back together. it's ruining my day. i would have been better off paying someone else to repair it instead of ending up very angry trying to do it myself.
What part are you having problems with getting it back together? You have to tilt it and line up the two holes at the same time and then go back to regular and then just push it on the middle part inside the plastic carburetor the white part with the Jets. That only goes in one way. If your bowl is getting stuck, flip it around the other way. Put the gas line on last
I found that if you do the linkage running from the right side first, you can use a pair of pliers to pull out the second linkage and kind of snake it into place. It's a bit fussy but it works. As a side note, I noticed that the choke flap was sticking as well but a bit of sandpaper to trim it back a bit fixed that issue (apparently it's a common issue). Thanks for posting this video. Super helpful.
It's WAS shitty for this guy the 1st time he did it TOO!! PAT yourself on the back!! The next time you HAVE TO do this it will b easy!!! Don't let I ruin your day you re awesome for not paying someone else!!
Red o ring on right side between back of air filter housing and carburetor do not seal allowing dirt into float bowl. Spray cleaner in hole and see the path dirt gets in. Stupid design flaw.

Just cleaned out my carb in 10 minutes thanks to this video! Started started first pull. Thank you !
Thank you so much for supporting. I will keep making good videos for people
