      @@Jason_Hermann it really did help a lot, I bought mine right before watching your vid as my first camera ever! I got it to start a Vloging TH-cam channel, this isn't my channel account but I'm making it very soon, just wish I had the right gear to get going. Didn't get to see how much everything costs till after I bought it. Just the lens is $800 and then I need a gimbal and tripod, and thank goodness I have a mic and extra batteries with a case to fit extra shoes, but the case is heavy and that effects the gimbal, I'm in a big mess. I've barely got $200 to spend left in my pocket for this... but I have a dream like MLK and I'm goin for it one way or the other!

    Think will head to the more detailed video you mentioned as, having owned an a6000, have basic, yes basic knowledge of the. apsc menu system.

    Thanks for the video! I'm looking at buying one for vlogging. I have a Canon EF-S lens (18-135mm F3.5-5.6) and I was wondering if I could use it on the Sony? This way I can buy the 16-55mm kit and use my lens as well. Thanks for your help.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that lens will work with an adapter like these: bhpho.to/2OkEhWR , but the good electronic adapters are pretty darn expensive. It's really only worth it in my opinion if you have several high quality Canon EF lenses to justify the cost of a good electronic adapter.

    Hey Janson, please answer.
    Do you still recommend a beginner 2022-2023?
    I'm a beginner photographer who needs a decent hybrid camera for both phot and video. My options are zv-e10, a6400 and maybe a7c.
    I'm leaning toward a6400 between these three since I'm on a budget and zv-e10 doesn't have EVF.
    So first, do you think I'm doing the right decision?
    and second, do you think I should wait a little longer in a hope of a newer model release or I should trust my gut?

    The best review of a6400 I've seen so far. I'm going to buy a new camera soon and I'm thinking about a6400 and Z50. What would You recommend for an amateour landscape + family photographer 😉? I'm leaning towards a6400 because of better choice of good and cheap lenses. Second questions if I may: a6400 has got only one knob at the top which allows to set aperture. The shutter speed is set with the use of a dial next to LCD. Is this comfortable?

      @@Jason_Hermann The JJC one is very cheap. Your RX100-7 review is making me reconsider the a6100 w/18-105 PZ lens. Our $1200 budget for an ambient and incandescent lit venue 50 from presenter. 200 would be useful to get closer, but it also has smaller sensor yet a wider aperture. Would not need to worry about using Clear View Zoom in that case. There is a sony PZ 18-200 but beyond the budget. Currently using an iPhone which sis ok for light levels but zooming in is pixellated. This is for live streaming. I appreciate your in-depth reviews!

    Great review Jay!! Do you think is worthy to upgrade from an a6000? Not in terms of autofocus obviously, but for the dynamic range and the iso side. I do mostly landscape, sometimes astro photography (milky way,nothing too extreme), and some portraits of my girlfriend and my dog. Thanks and greetings from Italy

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Diego and great question. Honestly I would say no not really worth the upgrade. It's very similar to the A6000 in that regard at the end of the day. You would be better off investing in a quality lens like the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 for portraits and the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for landscapes for example I would say. The A6400 is a little better, but not enough to justify for those reasons in my opinion. Jay

      Hello, This camera can certainly do the job but it may overheat when recording in 4k quality for extended periods of time in warm/ hot weather. Otherwise, yes it would certainly do a good job in my opinion and with so many lenses to choose from it's extremely versatile. Make sure to get several extra batteries also! In addition to the basic kit (16-50mm), which lenses do you recommend for price-quality for video? I have in mind the 50mm f1.8 and the 18-105mm f4

    If a lens is F3.5 - 5.6, why does the camera give settings of e.g. 22 in Av mode? Is any setting past 5.6 any good?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Aperture values giving on a lens are usually just them maximum size. So, yes it is 100% normal that the aperture goes beyond to f/16 or f/22 for example. The sweet spot for maximum sharpness is usually around f/5.6-f/8.

    Wow Jason, again you laid it all out! I'll buy an A6400 or 6600 tomorrow to shoot myself piano/singing from the corner of my tiny music studio. I use Logic Pro X for audio, Godox UL150 for spotlight and FCPX for post. I look directly across the piano into the camera [6' or 7'].The area covered is about 4' high x 8' wide with only a foot remaining behind myself and the corner I'm wedged into. I don't shoot stills and the camera will never leave the stand. Q1]. Can I control on/off/record from the Sony remote app on an Ipad and seated for back/back takes? 2]. What lens for a wide angle art approach and some 'bokeh' as well, prime or an all round zoom? I watch repeatedly and appreciate your wealth of generosity. Cheers and HNY from Vancouver!

    Do you think the 16-50mm kit lens would be a good choice for it? Or would it limit the camera too much?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The kit lens is a great option for the money, but the best all in one lens options in my opinion for photography would be the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Lens (amzn.to/3BS2jfs) and for video would be the Sony 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens (amzn.to/3j6xI6c).

    The mark 7 came out Kills this a6400. 4K is actually usable.

      @Jason_Hermann  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I wrote about the new RX100 VII here: www.sonyalphalab.com/new-sony-rx100-vii-reviews/ I wouldn't say it kills the A6400 considering it only has a 5min record limit in 4k, but it certainly produces some fantastic quality footage, no doubt! The RX100 series in general has always pumped out quality footage, but due to the ultra compact form factor, the overheating issue is still a real problem when it comes to recording 4k video. Therefore, Sony decided to limit it to 5 minute clips. Out of curiosity, why do you say the A6400 4k video is not usable? I think it's pretty darn awesome in the real world, so I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Thanks for the comments and good day ;) Jay

      @@Jason_Hermann so i watched a lot of reviews for this Camera now and have to say most reviews are garbage just showing one side like video or photos and are only around 11-12mins to get those youtube ads. Most of them seem to have the Camera even setup right and then complaining about only getting 3-4fps in burst.will watch your video now and give some feedback afterwards.the most usable and best review i´ve seen so far is from mark galers which also did everything in detail and seting up the camera right but this ends up in an hour long vid which like most people don´t watch because their attention span i was too short.
