  • Understand Each Mode On Your Sony Alpha Camera | A6400 A7iii A7Siii
    A step by step guide on what each mode on your Sony camera does
    Thanks for checking out this video. This is an explanation for each dial on your Sony camera. And why you may want to use one over the other depending on the situation.
    I know what it was like to have my first camera and not know what all the modes meant. So hopefully this video can help someone out and get them one step closer to creating the art they want.
    Let me know what you think in the comments.

    Coming from using things like a Red Dragon and black magic Ursa's for film school, getting this camera for my own personal use was ironically quite intimidating. I like the challenge and wanted to have my own camera and your video is a big help in explaining the modes. Very clear, and the editing and presentation aren't over top and are overall very calming. Cheers man!

    Good tutorial! Only point I’d disagree is about SCN… it’s not just “another type of auto mode that you probably won’t be using”, but instead an “advanced auto mode that is very useful in special situations”. I am an experience photographer, I use SCN mode in extreme situation. For example handheld twilight mode when even my f/1.2 lens cannot get me to the exposure/shutter speed that I needed.

    Really great video. I'm a day 1 user of the Sony A series and this was super helpful. I bought the camera to take action shots of my kiddos playing sports. Do you have a video on action photos or have a recommendation on where to start the triangle settings?

    Great video. Do you have a video explaining the best settings to shot this type of video (talking head). I’m using a6400 and it keeps flicking the focus. On the ZV1 everything is perfect on the auto focus and I never need to do anything.

      Thanks I’ll definitely watch it. I’ve watched many video and couldn’t really find a good answer so just in case.. maybe you can share the settings for this particular video? Just sitting in front of a camera and taking? Do you use auto focus or manual?

  • @petvesta

    Hi. With the SCN mode does that mean that in this setting I can go to, for example shoot a movie of say ants in macro, (provided I am able to keep the camera still with a tripod)?

    • @CreativeTechLab
      @CreativeTechLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks for watching. Yes the scn mode would try and guess the best settings in that case. But you'll still need the right lens for your situation. And I still think it'd be better to set your own exposure manually than having the camera guess for you.

    At ~minute 8 you can see lines in the display as you adjust the aperture, showing where your field of focus is (this is a guess lol) -- can you explain how to enable that display feature?

    • @CreativeTechLab
      @CreativeTechLab  ปีที่แล้ว

      So there were the grid lines and the zebras. Grid lines are just for composition. Zebras are for exposure. If you have a a6400 you can see how I set it up here: th-cam.com/video/0EWHWx0B8wM/w-d-xo.html

    Why when I take pictures on my sony a7ii on any mode besides auto it takes forever to take a picture & process?

    • @CreativeTechLab
      @CreativeTechLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not exactly sure. Could have something to do with either the type of memory card you're using or the age of the camera.

    My a6500’s control dial markings disappeared a few months after I got it; the A, P, S, M and other critical marks were not abraded or scraped, no physical damage at all, the cheap, really shoddy, CHEAPLY manufactured things were just suddenly gone. Sony “customer service” claimed it was “only an aesthetic flaw” and refused to make it right. 62 years photography, this is the worst experience with quality and customer service since Nikon’s disastrous first issue FEs in the’70s. Further inquiries with Sony have been unanswered. An a6500 is basically a good, serviceable camera as are my a6300 and A7R III, but they are expensive for what they are. Sony is charging premium prices and obviously cutting corners on quality control and customer service.

    • @CreativeTechLab
      @CreativeTechLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never heard of that happening before.

    • @Walkslowlylooking

      @@CreativeTechLab I know, I’ve been a serious photographer since I was 14, 62 years, owned and used many many cameras from Alpa through Zorki around the world and with many great photographers. I’ve never encountered such poor design quality. Then, to be blown off by customer “service” when my 3 month old camera had self- destructed?! I have seen another TH-cam a6500 explainer with the same problem on his camera, although he didn’t mention it explicitly.
      A lot of people watch what I’m shooting with and ask me for advice. I feel personal responsibility to share my knowledge as honestly as possible and this unprecedented experience with Sony is sad, disappointing and needs to be known.
      My A7R III remains a high quality stalwart in very demanding work, though it should have in-body focus stacking. Most other brands would, I think, have at least made that available in a software update. It will be the last Sony product I’ll ever buy.
