  • Just three seasons ago, Lille OSC finished 17th in the Ligue 1 table, just one point and one place above the relegation zone, and a whopping 55 points behind Paris Saint-Germain.
This season, they pipped PSG to the Ligue 1 title to be crowned as French champions for the fourth time.
In this short documentary, HITC Sevens takes an in-depth look at how they did it, Lille's footballing past, and the club's precarious future.

In terms of quality that Montpellier team is weaker than any of those squads. Giroud being the only player who went on to achieve something significant from the 2011 Montpellier. The city of Montpellier has one of the best Rugby teams in Europe, football comes 2nd in Montpellier which made it even more of a shock even for the locals who didn’t believe in the title until late that season.

Burak Yılmaz is an unique striker and he had tremendous seasons at Turkey, he showed his class almost every season he played here. Too bad that he is discovered by Lille at the age of 35 but he demonstrated that he could lead a team to become champions in such a league. What makes Leicester so amazing is how they have continued to hold form, competing for European spots each year. But the margin for error is so thin for lower budget clubs. A couple of wrong signings, and they tumble back down the standings because it is so difficult to continually find good players for the right price.

How do you think he will fit in the team or think he will debut next season?

I think the fact that he was insane at the end of the season is shadowing the rest of it. Don't get me wrong he was amazing for the whole season but we had a period where Bamba was phenomenal, another one where Yazici and Sanches were producing masterclass after masterclass, Botman was a literal wall, David finally woke up at the right time (when Yilmaz was injured), and let's not forget the work and leadership of Benjamin André and José Fonte without whom the system would fall appart, as well as the importance of Maignan in our defensive record. I am completely unable to point out who is the man of the season (besides Galtier), can't decide between Maignan, Fonte and André
