this is what I expect heaven to sound like.
agreed
yes
And yes, and yes.
OHHHH HELL YES
affirm heaven with hell, eh?
In these trying times in 2020, I go back to these Virtual Choirs to remind myself, and anyone reading this, that we can connect across the globe. We can do better, y'all. We can be united in moments like these in ways that would've blown the minds of our ancestors.
I was just in a very nice meeting with souls I've never met, with the founder of a great great NGO and he actually mentioned that now is the time to make a song for the world to heal. And I sent him the TedX video of Eric for inspiration. This would be so nice to work out:-)
I think it is no accident I found this music on this particular night. 💗
I came to revisit this channel after watching choir! choir! choir! And thinking "but social distancing!" Ha. Started looking up virtual choir and finally came back to this video. It's definitely needed right now. Hope you all are staying home and staying safe and healthy!
I work in a music school. In 2020 I'm forwarding these on to anyone and everyone that asks how to use a video call to record many participants as the gold standard of how to think different and do it correctly.
I’ve just today discovered Eric’s virtual choirs. April 2020 in lockdown due to coronavirus for three weeks now. Marvellous music created by people separated by distance but with the same love for music and their fellow humans.
Eric did four of these Virtual Choir projects. Each one bigger than the one before. Not bad for a guy who came to U. Las Vegas to study something else and was almost tricked into joining the university choir. the rest is history.
He said it was the pretty girls in the soprano section that finally convinced him!
there is no U Las Vegas. It is University of Nevada, Las Vegas, or UNLV
@@FenwycktheCat That's not quite as picky as us saying, "It's THE Ohio State University!"
Beautiful new virtual choir from the UK over here: th-cam.com/video/KFqPQP8RELA/w-d-xo.html
Now at six in the main series, plus atleast two other affiliated projects.
In a way this is the universe singing.
Seems more like humanity because the universe is endless
@@rosebud577 Don’t you know ?? Mankind’s been redeemed by Jesus Christ so we can live forever because of his a rifice the scales of justice have been balanced. ... one life lost , one gained ... Ok I appreciate the effort but I’m not a Christian so....
We definitely are the universe experiencing itself.

Saw this last night...300 singers...Ball State University...Muncie, Indiana...my daughter in the choir...Eric Whitacre conducting...I am forever changed...
Fortunate you are. Can't imagine how a live performance would be.
Eric Whitacre is a genius
Performed this with a choir of approximately two hundred people a year ago. It's a powerful piece that made me tear up on stage, and piece that still gives me major chills every time I hear it.
Coronavirus cannot isolate a virtual choir
You know that there's a problem with society when pop music videos get more views than masterpieces like this.
Jason Demeter So you're saying that beautiful choral music like this is the same thing as a half-assed Katy Perry-esque pop song?
I think it constitutes a problem with your perception of society, rather than society itself.
Ayokalyb . . .Sure. Why not.
***** what he means is that "pop" music is popular, that's literally what pop is short for. So, if this got as many veiws and/or likes as pop music than it would in turn be popular thus making it pop music.
Everyone has their own opinion, and if they prefer "music" like Katy Perry than let it be. We just have a deeper connection with choral pieces.
Bringing nearly 4000 people from around the globe to prove to us the power of human voice, history has a place for you Eric :)
Oh and I also had the honour to sing in the bass section of the virtual choir of the song so that's another reason why the song means a lot to me.Write on Eric Whitacre write on!!!
For anyone wondering what the lyrics are, here they are in the translated English:
Night with the eyes of a horse that trembles in the night,
Night with eyes of water in the field asleep
Is in your eyes, a horse that trembles is in
Your eyes of secret water.
Eyes of shadow-water,
Eyes of well-water,
Eyes of dream-water.
Silence and solitude,
Two little animals moon-led,
Drink in your eyes,
Drink in those waters.
If you open your eyes, night opens doors of musk,
The secret kingdom of the water opens
Flowing from the center of the night.
And if you close your eyes,
A river, a silent and beautiful current, fills you from within,
Flows forward, darkens you:
Night brings its wetness to beaches in your soul.
And the original Spanish poem "Agua Nocturna" by Octavio Paz:
x1StapleGun , thank you for this!
Thanks a lot for this!!
Cheers, this makes it work for me...🥂
Bless you Deathsquid! It does help to know.
Thank You. I thought at 1st. It was Me? LOL
I heard this and can'r
t stop crying. This is what the pandermic has given us an awaking to be human.
ahhh. sang this in my high school choir. such a hard song to get right, but SOOOO worth it once you perform it. the chills are strong with this one.
aeleron more fun singing, for sure.
Hearing it is incredible. I can't imagine being INSIDE it as you were.
I sang this song as well in my high school choir as well!!!
Your choir master was way ahead of others to bring your HS choir this master piece! Wish I heard you all,! Peace!
I remember very fondly recording my part for this choir with multiple friends of mine. I still come back to this video and get chills down my spine knowing that I was a part of this incredible adventure.
These videos are awesome and chilling, but i want to see the timeline of the video project! Imagine having to sync and key over THREE THOUSAND channels of audio and video. I just unwittingly grabbed my coffee at the very thought.
The way it's recorded by each Singer definitely helps with syncing.
You're singing along with a video of Eric conducting and a backing track too.
This stirs my soul, we are so connected through vibration and love, this is like a host of heavenly angels!
If the whole world could sing I think the vibration would change the earth!
We should do this in the next Olympics event where every country comes together. Each athlete, coach, staff, fans, everyone in the statium should learn and follow one song and sing it together to melt everyone's heart.
Lets do this!
Great idea!
Beauty in the form of song, the sound of the human soul. : )
huh?
Either way, Whitacre is a musical genius. Thank you for posting
Shelia Chambers ...and, may I say, in all ways he is a genius in bringing people together
There is no sound more ethereal than a huge choir! Brilliant, love it. encore!
Once again, Eric Whitacre proves that music can bring people together and show that we can be a part of something bigger then ourselves.
Eric Whitacre's music was introduced to me at a very trying time of my life "Water night" was the first song I heard after the death of my younger brother. I fell deeply in love with this song because it helped me when I really was at my lowest point I think God for Eric Whitacre's music and maybe they will give me another chance to audition because I wasn't able to audition at the time that I was really in contact with Mr Whitaker's management but water night is a very special song for me.
I had the pleasure of performing this song my junior year of high school and it is super gorgeous and super powerful when done right. I love this song because it holds a special place in my heart. Well done all of you.
OMG!! This is beyond anything....ever done in choir history. Its beautiful
And it is done through music...
If anyone says music doesn't bring us closer together, s/he is wrong.
This is absolutely beautiful!
holey crap I have goose bumps on top of goose bumps and I am crying what the hell. This is so beautiful and angelic shivers
Nikki Preston once they started tears just started flowing glad I'm not the only one
This is so beautiful sounds amazing voice.
My eyes were watering up while I listened to this.
The orchestral rendition it's beautiful too. What a gift.
When you don't see what they wear.. or look like, or where they are from, you only hear the beauty of their voices. We are all ONE and can be one nation on earth. No wars, no hatred. Only love.
Absolutely stunning. That so many beautiful voices could collaborate, without having ever met, is a miracle. God certainly had His hand in all of this: the vocals, the edit, the written music. Just beautiful. Thanks you all of you performers, and to Mr. Whitacre and his staff.
The music makes consonant and dissonant harmonies be more alike than opposite each other, beautifully joined and wonderfully orchestrated vocal sounds to be heard over and over.
I'd like to see some of the stacked notes making up some of these outrageous chords.
Unity in difference
Truly Heaven on Earth - the Angels are not above us and there is no pit below us - We are the Angels finally learning to harmonise with the universe that birthed us. Thank you Eric Whitacre
I have just discovered Eric Whitacre. This music brings tears of joy and awe to my eyes. It shifts things inside that I can't explain. Such beautiful chord progressions. I'm at a loss for words.
Amazing sound. But Lux Aurumque is in my heart now and forever.
Thank you for that kind of magic. For your great music. Your music is what keeps some of us together. Your music is what keeps some of us just... just alive. Your music is part of my life now.
Your music is infinity.
I totally agree about Lux Aurumque with the virtual choir. Every time I listen I get chills and choked up. What fantastic discord and resolution; it vibrates the soul.
I tear up every time I hear this
Zach Skiles , it touches one's soul..music transcends cultural and language barriers..always has. : ) Sometimes you hear particular strains in a completely different language, and yet it has this amazing capability to move you to tears...it truly is amazing.
I listen to Old school Rap. But I think this is simply Amazing. Great work. Every single singer deserves a thumbs up.
I listened to this in choir today and I was left speechless. Its just so amazing
now i want to see a piece written where all singers and musicians could do this from all over the world thousands of drums and every kind of instrument with tens of thousands of voices all working together making a song so incredible that words could never express it this is truly beyond awesome
Water is Life.
you can feel the peace settle over you when listening to this its so calming
YesYesYes!
If only this was live. Seeing this many people singing this song together would be... so amazing I couldn't describe
мурашки по коже,очень гармонично поют!
It's very hard to listen to this without imagining that I'm listening to a beautiful choral chamber choir of angelic singers. Well done! 👼🏻
My grandfather passed away today at 1:43 AM... The day before my band teacher showed me this song and so... here i am again... Thank you
You are in heaven on Earth, where finally humans come as one to show their love. Through music
The energy and intent of all those voices put a complexity to a piece of artistry that is not able to be eclipsed. The genius of composition and understanding of emotion is BRILLIANT. Thank you Eric.
Eric Whitacre is brilliant and his music is stunning...and this virtual choir is a great achievement for the 21st century. Imagine bringing all these people together from all over the world...Bravo, Eric!
And that imagination is real. Heaven will let us one day, all sing together forever and ever.
I had the pleasure of being one of the first high schools in the nation to sing this song. I had a great teacher.
this one and sleep are my favorite ones and I surprise a lot of people
Beautiful, but profoundly alienating. Harmoniously blended voices in polyphonic choral singing is a living symbol of human togetherness, which the videos of solitary young singers in the loneliness of their apartments totally contradicts.
Not to mention his extensive use of dissonance. There is harmony within the dissonance, but its force hits almost like a physical blow.
We're alone in a crowded world...
whether a person chooses to believe in God or not, the reality to me is that the door of heaven has been left open and we are allowed to experience a bit of it in the here and now. all of Eric's music cuts to the core of my soul and spirit.
Beauty is in the eye (or ear) of the beholder. Something like this could give someone just as many chills as one of the most exquisite pieces of music on earth.
This is one of the most beautiful choral pieces ever written. I love to go back and revisit the transcendent beauty of its text and music married together perfectly. Just what I needed to hear tonight!
It's an english traslation from "Agua Nocturna", writen by the mexican poet Octavio Paz.
AGUA NOCTURNA
La noche de ojos de caballo
que tiemblan en la noche,
la noche de ojos de agua
en el campo dormido,
está en tus ojos de caballo
que tiembla,
está en tus ojos de agua
secreta.
Ojos de agua de sombra,
ojos de agua de pozo,
ojos de agua de sueño.
El silencio y la soledad,
comos dos pequeños animales
a quienes guía la luna,
beben en esos ojos,
beben en esas agua.
Si abres los ojos,
se abre la noche de puertas de
musgo,
se abre el reino secreto del
agua
que mana del centro de la
noche.
Y si los cierras,
un río te inunda por dentro,
avanza, te haré oscura:
la noche moja riberas en tu alma

I still get chills from this.. and i was a part of it.
He should have everyone sing " The Awakening" for the next viritual choir song. That song is my favorite choir song, so powerful and the piano is amazing.
This is what I would imagine we would receive from an interplanetary civilization by way of invitation to life on other planets. Let the cosmos know, we are here !!! Thank you Eric and thank you all those who contributed to this project in all the ways that you did, and will do yet.
Eric, you should be so proud of yourself.....what a beautiful life role....much success!
If this doesn't make you misty, while feeling like angels are in choir and you are swimming with dolphins.....Then you are not connected to the light.
I have heard I will do in heaven is worshiping God all day. I want to go heaven, but not sure I will enjoy it forever.
After listening this, I am sure I will love worshiping God and his universe. It will be much nicer than this and I will be part of it. Thank you and God bless you.
That rendering job though!
Got introduced to Eric's Virtual Choir through music appreciation, and I definitely appreciate his music :p
-keep it up Eric
This is profound!
It speaks to what we are as beings, no country, no race...but our pure spirit.
Music is the beauty of the soul sharing in love. God be with us and protect us Amen.
A Moment of Beauty
It took me the longest to find myself in this one.
Ben Leaf, I know I’m 5 years late, but where are you?
How does one audition for future projects like this?
@@markclason2717 he has a current virtual choir going on, sign up on virtual choir 6 website
Ben Leaf I just signed up for VC6. Woo-hoo!
I still cant find myself! 😂
The orchestral version at the end is just divine. Wow. I didn't think both versions would be equally moving.
I imagine myself watching this from space with a light representing the location of each singer. Google Earth do something worthwhile.
how can people dislike this
I agree. I feel like the angels are singing to me from Heaven listening to this.
One day, I wish to hear something like this, but with a million singers. Just imagine the resonance!
Coronavirus: Hehe I can stop choirs
Virtual Choirs: AHEM! Did you really think you could stop us?
A pretty exceptional piece of work and project. Be content in the knowledge that you're a rock star now, Mr. Whitacre.
I sang "Sleep" Baritone and Tenor part at the GA All State Choir in 2007 and I can truly say it was powerful. Inspired me to become the Music Vocal Ed Major I am today. I have the sheet music still to this day. I always get chills listening to this
For a really long time I have been interested in writing really dissonant harmonic passages, and when I discovered Eric Whitacre I was in heaven. I'm just glad that some people recognize the beauty in otherwise less beautiful chords.
my chorus has been doing one or two songs of his every year. this was one of my favorites c:
by chorus you mean choir right?
oh
Beautiful Beautiful
WOW! Cried the whole way through! This clearly demonstrates the unifying power of culture and art, beyond borders and national identity.
We are all part of this majestic structure that is the universe, we all have the same aspirations and dreams, we all strive to be happy and avoid pain. We are one species, one family, WE ARE ONE!
Peace and Love
Simply incredible. Thank you Mr. Whitacre for creating such beautiful music :)
Красиво! И труд титанический! Я в восторге!!!
+Audry Borders It's called Russian dipshit
What a beautiful way to foster brotherhood in the world. We are just amazing. The ET's of the Universe I venture would be awe struck. MORE, MORE.
I saw this in music class today and I'm watching it at my house. Gonna show my parents and tell them to show their friends. This also reminds me of my dog Lily. She ran away two nights ago. This song gives me hope she'll come back.
to be a part of this would be like I had died and gone to heaven!

WONDERFUL. Mr. Whitacre, you are a TREASURE.
Music is the one true universal language. Solid Proof right here.
My chamber choir at school is singing this at our next concert and contest
Im so using this to practice along too!
omg, so is mine!
You are so stupid! -.-' we're in the same choir
AnnaMarie S it was sarcasm i knew it was you lol
honestly, I'm way late to this party, but I really think that this is what should've gone up in that disk with the rest of those files. if any extraterrestrial species exist and would want to hear the sound of humanity, this along with the ugly parts would be it.
[ いお ひる ] yes! Close Encounters of the Third Kind aliens...here is something to check out!!!!
カラからゲブ you have to remember that beauty is relative. Music is vibrations in the air translated into electrical signals, which depending on the frequency of the wave then for an as of yet unknown reason triggers pleasure (the reward system) in our brain. Maybe if aliens heard this masterpiece, they'd just feel some vibrations in the air. Our appreciation of music is relative to our individual brains, so really I wouldn't hold too much hope for other species.
In and interesting twist. The technology made to put those probes into space was later re-purposed to make this possible. You can thank the space race for circuit boards, that's where the money and demand to reduce the size of computers down from entire rooms came from.
God certainly gifted Eric - already one of the great composers
Now this is what I call music. It takes you to another place.
Sounds like something from LOTR... Maybe... haha! Truly beautiful though! Celestial!
my teacher was in this and now she is having us do it bc of covid-19
OMG! I'm So Sorry. 1st. Name plz and I Will Pray for Him🙋
Eric was chosen by God and given this gift.
So great to have been a part of this.
