    I would also say to loosen to injector nuts and back off the injector bolts a few times. Then after the new cam is installed do an injector adjustment.

    I have replaced plenty of heads on these engines because of a broken timing belt. This is an interference engine so the timing on this engine is absolutely critical. They sell a timing tool kit online cheap. I believe I only paid 16$ for it. But it take all the guess work out of it. As these engines do not have any timing marks. The tools in the kit lock the crank and cam TDC and the will not move. I would definitely suggest using that tool if you are going to do anything timing related. It only takes on slight slip of the wrinch to have a bent valve.

      Just did timing on my 738k km golf 5 BDK engine.
      Was my first timing job on an engine ever. There ARE marks for timing (crankshaft tdc position marker, camshaft has the overlaying sprocket "crown" with hole, 4A mark on rear timing guard which aligns with camshaft position bracket) and the tools you buy for cheap DO LEAVE ROOM FOR GUESSING. This is all because there are many engines and tool revisions and various guides online. I was timed correctly 4 times and yet 4 times I had doubts I timed it wrong because of the various internet guides, took belt off and restarted the process. Wasted 1 3/4 days. On the final assy car cranked no start and engine vibrated like mad. I had to retard the timing via adjustment of camshaft by releasing 3x13mm on the cam sprocket and using VCDS (a.k.a TORSION VALUE) and finally set -0.5°KW on a hot engine, but this was very poorly explained anywhere, had to do the math myself. I was so scared I messed up the timing job and now a valve will be chewed together with the head.

    Just a small comment - be very careful that you don't drop the small triple square 12 point bit into the head when you remove it from the bolts, or there's a good chance it'll end up in your oil sump. You can probably guess how I know!

    you can prime the engine with oil by removing the connector from the injectors and cranking the engine untill oil warning from dashpod goes off, the procedure from the workshop manual
    primming with fuel needs VCDS, there you have an option to activate fuel pump

    Great video, thank you! I didn't need the cam pulley removal or holder tool. I just simply removed the camshaft with pulley/hub on it and gave it a light whack and it fell off easily. Runs like a new car, power restored and starts easier. Original cam went 350k ! Thanks again.

    with the advanced method, turning the camshaft 90° backwards , the crankshaft will be at 180° , so the 2 & 3 pistons will be at TDC.
    by removing the belt on the initial position (TDC on cyl 1) , is much easy to gently turn the crankshaft backwards (anti-clockwise) by only 90° , to have the pistones lined up mid deck height and to clear any possibile valve interaction.
    after that, we can turn also the camshaft 90° (anti-clokwise) and remove it without "stress" caused by possible wrench slip, etc.
    after the 90° offset position instalation to clear the tandem pump pin , the camshaft can be turned clockwise at TDC 1 cyl (belt removed) cause the pistons are aligned and non valve interaction will occur and also need to gently reposition the crankshaft by 90° forward (clockwise) for the TDC 1 cyl.
    some initial marks on the crankshaft pulley will help.
    after this the "locks" on the camshaft and crankshaft and the belt install!
    very good video! thanks for posting!

    15:00 CAUTION. Wrong tightening order. First torque the caps 2 and 4 then +90º. After that torque the rest of the caps.

    Great Video in some aspects....my advice to everyone doing a cam replacement is to remove the fifth cam bearing cover before rotating the engine, place the notch in the cam vertically, put the the locks on the crank, pulley and cam, remove the cam, replace, put the belt back on and have a wonderful day. The chalk mark on the timing belt is senseless.

    I thought the cam had worn badly on my Passat AWX. 440k miles. Noisy when the breather was removed and down on power. Turns out it has the earlier type injectors with the female adjustment screw on the injector rockers. (The ball pin on top of the injector is a lot longer and actually goes into the adjuster screw quite a bit) Anyway it had hammered/damaged the inside of the screw and the ball pin was sticking. Only way I noticed was the rocker arm for #1 injector was really slack. Put in a screw and ball pin from a later injector and job done. Camshaft was fine btw

    Hi, i took the head off my car because the timing belt snapped and belt all the valves.
    Its a renault petrol (clio) i replaced all bent valves, grinded in and re assembled the camshaft and rockers, this is my question?
    Should the camshaft feel quite tight to turn over by hand by placing a ratchet & socket on the camshaft sprocket?
    Even with my rockers fully unscrewed out of adjustment (ie backed off completely) its really tight to turn over and the head is off the car!, should it be tight like this, is this normal?
    I have yet to adjust the valve clearances yet, but stopped because i panicked over the tightness, i thought it should be quite easy to turn. It actually turns, i feel resistance then it jolts forward when its coming off the top of the lobe, it does this 4 times for every revolution of the camshaft sprocket, its a 16v
    Please advise if its normal to feel quite a bit of resistance with no belt on and head off vehicle

      SP330Y first, you have to use assembly grease, and tighten the cam shaft bolts carefully and continue rotating the camshaft, so you make sure that the (is assume) new bearings seat correctly. From tight to properly torqued, about 100 inch pound (what I do without problems) the tightness should not increase.

    • @bioweaponsystem154
      @bioweaponsystem154 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on where you live and what you're after. Remember that the 2015 Passat likely falls under the Dieselgate reforms (ergo why they are selling one 2015 with 15k or fewer miles/kilometers on the OD). If you're in a state with strict emissions standards, check to see you aren't buying a very expensive paperweight. See if the owner of the vehicle complied with the fix for the emissions scandal. If you're in a state where emissions standards are not that strict, take the Passat. Manual transmissions are great for mileage and durability. Audi's are even more expensive for parts and repair.

    Hi, congratulations for the videos! How many kilometers do you change camshaft? This one you mounted you are satisfied with the quality and how much you paid for it ... my car is vw golf 5 1.9 tdi 77kw 105cp Dpf year 2008 BLS engine code and I think it is identical to yours.thank you

    en mi humilde opinion hay un par de procecimientos mal hechos, el primero es hacer girar el motor desde el arbol de levas con toda la distribucion armada todavia pudiendo provocar daños a la correa y al tensor automatico. segundo al aflojar los pernos que sujetan los balancines de los inyectores estos tienen q estar en una posicion en que no ejerza presion sobre los inyectores para no forzar las las roscas de aluminio en la tapa de cilindros..

      Because he has started charging people and making them buy the premium membership on tdi forum to get that info. Its a shame that we have to make money off those that got him as popular as he is.
      Torque specs for those that need them do not pay for something that is common knowledge!
      OEM stretch bolt camshaft bearing cap: 71 inch lb (about 6 ft lb) + 1/4 turn
      OEM stretch bolt injector rocker lever: 14.8 ft lb (20 Nm) + 1/4 turn

      6mm upper tandem pump bolts: 15 ft-lb

    Hey folks, can anybody offer thoughts? My Touran 1.9TDi (2008) has been leaking oil from the oil filler insert after a cam belt change (major service at 200 000km). Is this coincidental or could it conceivably have been something the workshop did? RK

    hi Robert i don't know procedure number one cylinder at top ,and cam at what position before putting head on ? thanks again

    • @MrRfaass
      @MrRfaass 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, put the crankshaft 90 off of tdc, so you can install the head any way you want. After the install you set the cam with its first two lobes (cyl 1 ) up, this means that cyl 1 is tdc on compression stroke, put in the locking pin in the camshaft sprocket. Now turn crank to TDC via the shortest way, i.e 90 degrees back. Put the crank locking tool on and you are set to put the belt on. Thiesest way I found was to put the belt on the crank, lock it there by jamming or a little c clamp, route via waterpump to cam and mark the cam and timing belt so you know where the belt goes. Now loosen the cam sprocket, put the belt on tthe right place on the spocket, route via tensioner and put the camshaft sprocket back on.

    You never mentioned why the camshaft is worn out, if the injectors leaking fuel its gonna mix with your oil and kill your camshaft, you can replace the camshaft but the problem will come back

    • @overtaxed3628
      @overtaxed3628 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well all PD engines are full of problems, all you can do is repair them all the time and listen to the car mehanics storys about how reliable they are but the real truth is those PD engines are crap and nothing but money pits for a car owners.

    • @MrRfaass
      @MrRfaass 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dardi Dako for sure very possible. Make sure timing is correct. Checking the cam for wear is not difficult, most of the time one lobe is more worn than the others, so measure them all with a digital caliper and you will for sure know!

      Sounds like your timing is out, it might be the valves hitting the Pistons locking it together

    hy nice video but whats the cause to wear that camshaft? bad oil presure or what

    • @MrRfaass
      @MrRfaass 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      DICU ALEXANDRU there are different causes possible: non upgraded lifters, wrong oil, too many miles on the oil, soft camshaft... it is a bit critical, because the injector followers take up space which could be used for cam shaft lobes.

  •  6 ปีที่แล้ว
