Outfitting my NEW 2021 Deckover Trailer!!! Winch, Lights, and MORE!

  • I decided rather than pushing the limits of my car trailer any longer I would upgrade while I was ahead and get myself something rated for the type of weight I'm hauling on a regular basis. I got a great deal on this Brand New Deckover trailer and spent a couple hundred dollars extra getting it equipped to fit my needs perfectly. This trailer should help me to be much more efficient when loading and unloading, not to mention be much safer since it's rated for well over what I typically haul. Check it out!!

    I'd put a long metal plate that spans the mount on the underside (under the deckboards). You will have upward tension as the towed vehicle reaches the front of the trailer bulkhead.

      Plate as stated then instead of a battery why not add another plug and just plug it into the plug on your truck when you need it. No worries about buying a battery and keeping it charged.

    NICE SETUP! I just picked my equipment trailer up about a month ago myself. Not nearly as nice as yours though. Still waiting on a good deal to come up for my winch though. I would love to see how you hooked up the wiring to charge the batteries when hooked to your truck. Thanks for another great video Jason, thumbs up as always

    I use every inch of my deck space and would never mount the winch on the deck. Mounting to wood is kinda ghetto when there is steel available. If you don't want to mess up the powder coat you could clamp the mounts to the forward frame ahead of the front rail. A little fabrication goes a long way.

    With the wench mounted that low, does the cable ever rub on the rear of the trailer when wenching something up onto the trailer?

    • @MohawkMotors
      @MohawkMotors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the cable occasionally rubs on the steel angle where the fat deck meets the angled portion of the deck. Hasn't hurt the cable or the steel angle though.

    • @stevenall7317
      @stevenall7317 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mohawk Motors thanks. Im preparing to mount one on my trailer and was qurious. Im thinking of devising a roller that can be placed in the area that might rub the cable. Nothing permanent. Just something to attach as a prevenative measure.

    Hey where are the info about plugin the battery so it charge while driving?

    • @MohawkMotors
      @MohawkMotors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a pin in the trailer connector for Battery +, that pin is a direct connection to the battery positive post so it will have vehicle voltage (around 14 volts) and will charge a battery on your trailer.

    Can you connect power to the winch through the trailer connect without a battery in the trailer?

    • @MohawkMotors
      @MohawkMotors  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could, but it wouldn't work. The Battery positive through trailer plug is only run through like a 10 gauge wire and usually has a 20 or 30 amp fuse on it. It would barely be able to turn the winch motor, definitely not able to supply enough power to actually pull a load. That circuit is only designed to charge the trailer battery and maybe run a few small accessories like lights.

      @@MohawkMotors Good point in the amperage. How many amperes does the winch need? So, 60 or 70 amps battery will do?

    • @MohawkMotors
      @MohawkMotors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the winch. Mine draws 180 peak amps, rule of thumb is to have a battery with at least triple the Cold cranking amps of whatever your peak amp draw may be, 540 cold cranking amps in my case. I went with a battery with 560 cold cranking amps.

    • @MohawkMotors

    How to make the vehicle charge the battery?

    • @MohawkMotors
      @MohawkMotors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In most modern vehicles with factory wired trailer connections, there is a Battery + terminal in the trailer connection, when the vehicle is running, that terminal will have the same voltage as the vehicle, usually about 14 volts. If you run a wire from that terminal in the trailer connector, to the positive terminal on your trailer battery, it will charge the trailer battery using the vehicles charging system when the engine is running.
