Let's build some stuff!! I've always been a Chevy/GMC fan and love their platforms. Engine swaps, suspension modifications, custom fabrication, drivetrain rebuild and upgrade, I do everything and try to do as much of my projects as possible myself. From finding the components I need, to rebuilding transmissions, to pcm tuning I do it all. 100% built not bought

Going to add my experience here, i did it like the video but had a tough time getting the new axle in that snap ring would not push past so i pulled it back out. Remove the tie rod end 21mm socket. Remove caliper and set aside. Doing this will give you the room to push the axle straight in no angles use the axle like a slide hammer gently and it fell right in for me
Sometimes they can be stubborn and getting more room for a better angle definitely helps! Glad you got it
haha you have the same exact RV I do
Nice!
Will that application work for OBS Chevy with 4l80 also?
I believe you will need a different crossmember, otherwise yes
@ I was told the OBS has extra holes to move stock crossmember back
could be, I don't know for sure
Just need the engine host
can get them cheap on marketplace, or harbor freight, or wal mart

Is it necessary to change the oil pump while you there?
It's not necessary, but it usually doesn't hurt either, you'll need to remove the front cover to change the oil pump though.
Can mechanics tell if a car can make it to another state
Most mechanics can give you an educated guess as to whether or not a vehicle will make a long drive. But there's never any guarantee, I've seen vehicles that I didn't think would make it another 40 miles go for another 100,000. I've also seen vehicles that I thought would run forever blow up within an hour. You never know for sure.
@MohawkMotors thank u that is true
Just take the linkage off the other side of the cable, that way you bypassed the shift interlock. Alot Easier To do
Easier yes, but what if you're by yourself and trying to actually drive the truck....... I'm not comfortable shifting a truck into gear while I'm laying under it with nobody in the driver seat, parking brake is not 100% guaranteed to hold the vehicle still.
@MohawkMotors Yes. Don't ever do that or try to start across the starter or relay. I know of a few ppl who got hurt pretty bad doing those. Especially when it comes to a piece of equipment like a dozer, tractor, etc. If u had help, and the help was not a idiot or drunk, you could chock the wheels, hold the brakes, etc and shift trans in gear at transmission. I bought a late 70s thunderbird in Utah when I was a young man. Guy said he lost the cap to rad, NP and the shifter broke in colum so he had a hole in trans hump with vice grips hooked to the plastic piece that goes on shifting arm. I was dumb and bought car. Tired of walking everywhere, and got cap. Car overheated. There was a gasket issue that's why no cap was on it. Ran fine without cap. Not hood with. Sold it and got a dodge omni 4 speed with the big black button on shifter you had to depress and shift to Reverse. Gr8 car.
Can i use a yolk off a 2wd
yes
Well, I'm definitely going to be sad to see the turbo go away, but it will also be nice seeing the new engine go in with 4l80 and seeing everything you'll do there. Not to mention, the frame off restoration. It's been a long time since I did my old square body rebuild, and it's going to be sweet to relive that. I love the 12 valve project, but I would also love to see a 12 valve go into a GMT800. That's a project I'd love to do myself. I think the Duramax in the Blazer isn't quite the right fit, like you said. Not that it wouldn't be awesome, but I'm not sure it would be all that much fun to drive. I've been in one that had a 6.2L diesel that was upgraded to 6.5L heads and turbo and it was a rough ride. You could also just rebuild that Durmax truck as a newer version of itself. Again, like the 06 or 07 classic, extended cab long box. You'd definitely stand to make some really good money, those trucks around here still bring a lot of money. I'm excited to see what you decide. I just know it'll make some more awesome videos
Thanks Colin! You're right about the blazer, it would be a rough ride, that short wheelbase with heavy enough springs to support the diesel would probably beat up the kidneys. I've seen a few 12 valve swaps into gmt800 trucks, I don't dislike it, but I don't love it. Finding a good gmt800 to put the duramax drivetrain into seems to be getting votes so far.
I’ve tried to think of something off the beaten path to use the duramax drivetrain in. What I personally conclude is that since oddball vehicles or highly modified vehicles have a limited pool of customers interested in buying them, and you make part of your living by selling your projects, I would recommend putting it back in a period correct 3/4 or 1 ton. Just my two cents. Enjoyed the video.
Thanks for watching! I'm kind of thinking the same thing for the duramax.
So pumped for the CUCV projects!
They're coming!
What is the length and weight rating of your trailer? Would you buy it again or go a different route?
I have to double check in the morning, I believe it's 20ft of deck, including the tilted down part at the back, and 10,000lb gvw. Would absolutely buy it again, it works great for everything I've done with it and I haven't had any issues at all.
@@MohawkMotors Awesome 😎
Soap around the base of the valve stem. Chevy has an issue with wheel corrosion. I've had all my wheels taken off twice now and they wire brushed where the vave stem seats in the wheel and the air leak stops. For a while any way. I'd bet you have the same issue
I have aftermarket wheels. The valve core wasn't all the way tight and was leaking
I always sell my automatic transmissions, i try to collect the T's, i dont mind cutting holes in floors.
Nice.
18 looking to buy a 97 v6. Aprox how much dose it cost to v8 swap? I’d assume with used parts etc it wouldn’t be ridiculous but I’m not too sure
I'll be honest with you, everybody on the internet says "just buy a V8 car, it's not worth converting" and part of why I did this was to see if that's true, and now that I've done it, I can tell you, I'll just buy V8 cars from now on. If you have an entire donor vehicle to pull the engine, brackets, wiring, and everything else you need out of, it might be worth doing, but otherwise it'll nickel and dime you wayyyyy over what it would have cost to just buy a V8 car to begin with.
Your videos are great! But turn the light on your camera when you're under the truck please!
Thanks! And will do!
If i do a lq9 swap from an 4.3 07 classic will i need the harness from an escalade? Thats where im pulling the lq9 from
Doesn't have to be an escalade. You just need a harness with all the right connectors and layout, a 2006 silverado or sierra with an LM7, L33, or LQ4 engine would be perfect. Could also use harness from a 2006 tahoe, yukon, suburban, or escalade with an LM7, LQ4, or LQ9 engine. Or an engine from an 07 silverado classic or sierra classic with an LM7, L33, or LQ4.

@@MohawkMotors did you tie into the factory wiring for the fans? And the fuel pump?

NJ inspection guy told me i could drive the car in with 4 flat tires and as long as it passes OBD2 im passing. Thats next week....
For emissions testing, sure, but if that's for a safety inspection, that's a perfect example of why I avoid NJ.
@@MohawkMotors hehehehe. I get what you're saying.. I'm just saying what the guy told me lol. Does PA inspect cars before 1996? (NJ does not they just exempt it because. OBD1)
PA's inspection are based on how the vehicle is registered, they have a few types of registration that don't require annual safety inspection but almost everything that is going to be driven on a regular basis requires annual safety inspection. Some counties in PA require a separate emissions inspection also.
Wow brother, that's crazy!!!! Makes no sense.

Requiring a vehicles to be one color is some Socialist shit.

These pedantic bureaucrats really piss me off. Here in VT we aren't allowed to weld on the frame AT ALL or it's supposed to fail inspection automatically.

With AMC's there is no such thing as "Numbers Matching" as AMC did NOT put the VIN on any of the engines or transmissions, with an exception of cars originally ordered and delivered in Georgia and Tennessee due to their state laws, so AMC stamped the engine and transmission with the Sequence Number found on the bottom of the original drivers door tag, rather than the VIN number, but on GA and TN cars ONLY, and in 56 years a drivers door getting changed out with a different door and door tag is not out of the question.
Interesting, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!
I’ve been looking for another 5.3 engine for my 2004 Chevy suburban Z71 5.3 which I really really like
Plenty out there! Good luck!
Hi Jason I’m doing a swap form 4.3 v6 to 5.3 v8 but the doner engine comes with auto trans and the 4.3 is manual trans and i want to keep it manual however i have an issue with the flying wheel What’s your opinion?
Get a flywheel and clutch for whatever year truck yours is that originally had a 4.8 and a manual transmission. If it's a 2004 for example, get a flywheel and clutch for a 2004 1500 that had a 4.8 and manual transmission.
What is the difference between a BW4485 and a NV149? And can I use the BW4485 in a 02 Cadillac?
OK so the BW4485 uses a planetary gearset to divide power but is actuated through the abs system. When the computer sees one or multiple wheels spinning faster than the others outside of it's programmed tolerance, it applies the brake on that wheel or wheels to direct more power to the other wheels. It is dependent on the computer and braking system, without them it is basically just an open center differential. The NV149 uses a viscous coupling to divide power 60/40 between the rear and front axles. It does not require an brake application or electronic assistance it is purely operated through mechanical and hydraulic principles. I'm about 95% sure your 02 cadillac would have come with and NV149 from the factory. You could put a BW448 in it, but without the computer and abs system having the programming and logic to apply the brakes correctly, you would likely encounter operational problems in low traction situations. Without the computer and abs programming to apply the brakes, the BW4485 would likely send all available power to the wheel or wheels with the least traction, basically achieving the opposite of AWD.
Thank you for your time and explanation, it is now clearer to me what I should do. 👍
Bravo 👏 👏👏 bro this is the best how to video using stock parts and as budget friendly as you can get. I'm doing more modifications to my engine but this definitely helps.
