Hey did anyone try this and add charging from the truck through the 7 pin connector? Can you have both the solar panel and truck charging the battery at the same time?
Great video. I would suggest putting a plates between the bottom of the trailer and the nuts underneath the trailer. I'm not sure I would trust that lumber to support the winch under the load of a larger vehicle without pulling up through after time.
You did a great job. Only one thing I would have done differently because everything else looks awesome but I would have mounted on the tounge. I never sacrifice trailer space. You can only pull something up so far. Everything else i really like
I have to agree, loos good and i am looking to mount a winch to my new trailer want wanted to ask for )even if they are not available anymore) the components list with model numbers would be great for reference (just for the solar battery setup) . Thanks
Love this project. Planning on doing something similar to my trailer. Question: any possibility of running an inverter to the 110 outlet to use off the battery?

Very nice but that box is going to build up some serious heat probly wouldn't hurt to cut some vents and put rain guards on them but I live in Mississippi and it probably doesn't get that hot where you live
What is the NOCO GCP1E 15 Amp AC Port Plug, 125 Volt Power Inlet Socket, Charger Plug, And Waterproof Electrical Outlet Receptacle With 6-Foot Integrated Outdoor Extension Cord for?
Great video. Just curious, did you wire the solar controller to the smart battery then to the battery? Or did you wire both the smart battery charger and the solar controller to the battery?
Am I correct in saying the solar panel trickle charges the battery and or you can plug the 110 in to an outlet to charge the battery via that charger. So 2 separate ways to charge the battery.
That was an outstanding video, really like the work. The only question I have is how did you secure the box and the winch to the trailer structure? I know how you mounted it, outstanding instruction but wood isn't going to hold that in winch in place winching something up there... Thanks man!
How do you keep water from getting in the front hole for the winch rope? We are in the middle of the project and I’m trying to figure out what I can do to get water from coming in the front.
@@JDSOutdoors Thanks for the quick reply! For some reason the only thing I see in the description is "How to install a winch and self charging battery system using solar." Maybe its just me though?
@@JDSOutdoors Thank you, I appreciate it! I'm about to get after this project and would love to follow with the same equipment if possible; your video was super easy to understand!
First, thanks for adding those links and details! I feel like I should know the answer to this but here goes...what do you use the AC port for? An aux power supply from the battery for tools etc? Something else? Thanks!
Thanks for the video, looking at doing the same for my trailer in the next week or so. Question.... I know the winches are fairly weatherproof, but any concerns/problems about water getting in through the fairlead hole?
JDS Outdoors really! I’m currently installing a winch on my trailer with a stand alone battery and I’m trying to decide which battery to use. I’ve seen where people say you only get roughly 4-6 pulls before you gotta charge the battery.
Nice and clean install. That looks like a 16 ft trailer and I have a similar one but a Carson. Do you have any concerns of the box taking up deck space? I just installed a winch but need a toolbox. I was looking at putting the box on the tongue but not sure. Also is that a tilt bed trailer?
Should have mounted it on the tongue of the trailer like it's intended. And ran the winch out the back of the box. Would have freed up all that deck space.
At 5:08 you say "this would be a good spot to have a friend". Awww, lonely guy, I'd be your friend. Nice video, thanks for sharing, God Bless, Greg
This is definitely your best video yet
Thank Jay it's a catch 22 I want to get them out fast but it takes forever to make em like this lol

1/4" plates on the bottom. First winch load was a 7500lb forklift worked great
What is the green box next to the Power Charger? What is it used for and what is it connected to. Thank for the video.

That one isn't available anymore but Amazon has quite a few different options and sizes

That is the hydraulic cylinder for the tilt bed
What is the NOCO GCP1E 15 Amp AC Port Plug, 125 Volt Power Inlet Socket, Charger Plug, And Waterproof Electrical Outlet Receptacle With 6-Foot Integrated Outdoor Extension Cord for?
To plug in the charger without opening the box
Holding bolts whilst you can not, use a socket, breaker bar and some blue tack in the socket.
Nice work man!
Just wondering why did you mount the box on the deck and not forward on the frame? Very nice setup. Ill be doing something similar.
Because if I mounted it forward the winch is useless when the trailer is tilted
@@JDSOutdoors ahh, makes sense.
@@FauxShelby if it wasn't a tilt deck then I would mount it up front
Not if you mounted a pulley for the cable to run in while the trailer is tilted.
Ah didn't know it was a tilt trailer u didn't show that in the video. Just showed after the forklift was already on.

You could put a flange or angle over the top of it but to be honest I never had any issues with water getting into it.
@@JDSOutdoors awesome. Well we followed your instructions and the end result is amazing! Thanks for a great idea! Looks so professional!
Great video. How did you mount the winch though? How do you fit bolts through those 4 legs of the winch?
Had to grind the heads to get it to fit.
Have that same set up with 12000 pound which. How did the solar panel system work and what is the name of the solar panel where can I get it?
Parts are in the description and it worked awesome. Never had to charge it.
Hey Homer, you forgot to mount the brackets from your solar panel to your toolbox!
Nice video , do you think that the 4 bolts are strong enough to pull a car on the trailer though?
Hundreds of cars, forklift and a skid loader so far.

None worried at all even in the winter it stayed dry
I have the same setup on my tilt trailer with a tractor supply truck bed toolbox with a smitty bilt 10,000lbs winch
Hey where did you get that winch plate
Picked that one up local at tractor supply. Any place that sells winches well sell the plate that or Amazon
should get some flat metal so you can mount it to the metal beams under trailer, them boards will break

I got all my parts off Amazon but most of it can be found locally at auto store or harbor freight
Sweet setup, awesome vid!
Nice clean professional looking project. What was the cost for the project? Insert a materials list in comments section.
Trailer was 4500
Box was 250
Winch 200
Solar 40
Battery 100
Probably $50 in random wires plugs etc

Newbie here... what is the battery for
The winch
Great project ...thanks...
I would have used a 1/4 plate under trailer as well to provide a much more mounting plate
Why would you mount the box like that, your taking up 2’ of your deck space on the trailer.
How long does your winch run on the battery.
Well its been over a year of almost weekly use and I've never charged it.

Yes it is a tilt bed which is the reason I put it where I did. I do plan to move it to get the deck space back eventually. This is a 20'
I’d like to know where you got the charger and the solar panel please great idea looking to do something similar. I guess all the parts would be cool.
Part links in the description
I’m not seeing the trickle charger either.
Should have mounted it on the tongue of the trailer like it's intended. And ran the winch out the back of the box. Would have freed up all that deck space.
It's a tilt deck wouldn't work
Lock washers should be on the nut side, not the bolt-head side.
What are the dimensions of that box?
Not sure it's meant to sit on the front of a trailer the opposite way I mounted it
How is it holding up?
Perfectly
What watt/amp is the solar charger? Also what 110 charger did you use 1,6 or 10?
25 watt and a 2 amp charger
You really need to go into a cross member with your winch mount.
It's not really an option but why?
Doesn’t seem like the winch will be sitting high enough
This is more of a "look at what I did" video as opposed to an "instructional" video.
