    I would be very careful about saying covid doesn't matter anymore. There are still around 1000 people per day who would strongly disagree with your flippant attitude saying it doesn't matter. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of families of the dead, myself included. Just because it didn't impact you, your attitude toward it is extremely selfish. I also have family that got covid and were completely fine, but then I have family members in a grave because of it. So spare me your blase attitude about how doesn't matter. Digging a hole isn't the only way, it's called do what almost every doctor says and not what Joe friggin Rogan says. I mean c'mon, use your brain and have some empathy. That's what their opinion was always going to be because it's the terminal liberal consensus to be unconcerned with the state of the world. It's a luxury to not think about these things, to ignore them, and it's not a luxury that everyone can learn to discard, or that some people even know they have. We're all just products of circumstance and they just happened to have the default opinion. Pity it, but don't resent them too hard for it.

      I agree. Also, it's absolutely stupid to say "does misinformation even matter anymore" concerning covid -- for sure as hell it does. A show with 10+ million listeners per episode should not be able to spread misinformation, even at this stage in the pandemic. Sure, things are getting better -- but just because your family came off fine doesn't mean that misinformation that's being a driving force behind a pandemic is suddenly tolerated, your anecdotes are useless compared to real data. So if Joe Rogan is getting people not to take a vaccine for unfactual reasons, which is a large concern if a new wave were to happen next winter, it just has to be marked as misinformation no doubt about it.

    Hey guys! I think, personally, this whole concept of allowing all topics to be discussed (which I agree with) hinges on one very important aspect. Critical thinking skills of the general populace. Schools need more funding and kids need to learn more important skills than how to be a worker drone.
    Currently most Americans are taught how to follow directions and not question what they are told and in that exact situation having people on social media spreading misinformation on a large scale is incredibly dangerous.
    So yes, free speech is very important, but so is education, and since our society views proper education as something to lock behind redlined school districts and price gated institutions, lower class Americans will have a harder time distinguishing fact from fiction.
    It goes back to a systemic issue that results in this misinformation vs free speech conversation being a symptom. We have to focus on the bigger picture here.

      I think our larger problem is less about how much critical thinking people have ingrained into them and more the fact that our culture pushes that you can impose your will onto reality to such a tremendous extent, so we have this cultural myth and narrative of hyper-individualism, and bootstrapping yourself into whoever you are, full formed, and ultimate personal responsibility. It's kind of no wonder that people will beat reality into whatever shape they want it to be with rhetorical power, with their own power of belief and faith, when they've bought into the idea that they world is what they make it, rather than simply being what it is.

      @@soulance8342 I mean, are they out of touch because they're out of touch, or are they deluded because they're deluded? I think that we can probably combat our cultural existential crisis with schooling to a large degree, though I really wonder how you might federally mandate such a "critical thinking" program and such a thing would inevitably get politicized. At a local level it certainly seems more achievable, though you have more issues with how school funding works based on property tax and school district policy decisions. My point here is that our delusion is more of an epistemic thing than we like to realize, encompassed in all aspects of our cultural heritage, and to root it out is no small feat, especially when we've exported it to other countries to varying degrees of success and to varying effects. I would like to say that rooting out such a cultural thing requires cultural solutions, but I don't realistically know an achievable solution, especially "in what terms" or "with what". Maybe this is the role of art and media? Maybe it's the role of school? Maybe this is the role of various forms of social engineering? Ultimately, it's all of these and more, it's a social responsibility that falls upon all of us to find and implement a solution to the problems plaguing our inherited western framework. The solution to a lack of social fabric almost requires a social fabric.
      Needless to say, I'm not hopeful of our chances, or that at this point, if we find a solution, it will be in time.

    Sam saying COVID is overrated because he and his family had only mild symptoms seems far-fetched and short-sighted, since sience and the statistics speak against him in this case. I like most of your videos and truly enjoy your content, especially the corridor crew stuff, but felt I needed to speak out here. This won't take away from all the stuff I enjoyed from you guys for now, (separating art from the artist here) since I feel from everything you get to see from your work as a viewer, it seems you still respect an follow all the health guidelines and so on.
    Just wanted to let you know and would be curious if he has changed his stance on this topic.
    I get that some of the more extreme points of view can seem to blow COVID out of proportion (since extreme POVs seem always to be the loudest), but the main consensus of science should be common sense, right? And I obviously get that not all of the measures that were taken in place to fight COVID might not have been the smartest in retrospect, but that doesn't take away from the real danger the virus carries.
    Nevertheless, I've been a loyal viewer since the time you were still bunking with Freddie, and I don't have to agree on everything you do or think (i.e. not a big fan of the heavy gun and weapon use in some of your videos), so I can still enjoy your content, creativity and passion for your art. So keep it up and keep up the open discussions.

(witch burners... the incels of the Early Modern period!) In an ideal world everyone would have the intellectual capacity to dismiss these ideas, but we don't live in that world and imho free speech is something that should be curtailed if it jeopardises public health or public safety (we should've done it when "big oil" was spending millions on climate change mis-information.) That's ironic considering the mainstream narrative to COVID has been the equivalent to the hysteria that was experienced in the Witch Burnings.
      Fear and anxiety is the reason people fall into delusions and ruin their societies, and COVID is just another example of that.
      Having "mIsiNForMaTion" like Joe Rogan telling people to take a more rational and calm approach to the topic is what will prevent/reduce calamity.

    I'm guessing you all don't exactly mean exactly what you were saying about covid this episode, but a lot of the takes are very very wrong.
    By far the biggest problem with covid right now is that people are not getting vaccinated against Covid. In the US only around 65% of people are fully vaccinated, and only around 40/45% are fully vaccinated and boostered. That means that 35% of people are straight up fully at risk of getting covid and having to go to the hospital, and even more than that are at risk of having a bad reaction to Omicron. The first important point to make here is that there is still a very large portion of people who remain unvaccinated and they are at risk of having a bad reaction. I don't think anyone here said anything to contradict this, but I just wanted to make sure this was stated.
    Also, it is important to note that natural immunity is nowhere near a replacement for getting vaccinated. I know that, again, noone said this on the podcast, but I just wanted to make this clear. Here's info on that if you are curious:
    www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/covid-natural-immunity-what-you-need-to-know
    Anyway, uh, I don't know if Sam is just memeing when he says he refuses to wear a mask when asked, but I think that is just a part of a main thing expressed in the podcast that seemed either very wrong or very misleading. It seems like you are saying that the pandemic is here and we can't really do anything about it anymore once you get vaccinated unless we just shut ourselves in forever. I understand the sentiment, but that is very misleading. If everyone was fully vaccinated I would actually pretty much agree with you there, but as I stated above that is just not true. While for us vaccinated and boostered folk it is true that it doesn't even matter much whether we get the virus now, the unvaccinated are simply ruining it for everyone.
    Now, the main argument you probably think of here is that who cares what happens to those dumb enough to refuse the vaccine it's their choice, but it's not that simple. When those people end up getting the virus and getting super sick they end up in the hospital. And when that happens a lot we suddenly get the problems we are having now where hospitals are full and they can no longer treat everyone. That means that if your grandfather suddenly has a medical emergency he may not be able to get the treatment he needs at the hospital closest to him, which very well could lead to his death. This means that during times when hospitals start getting full like right now it is still very important to follow CDC guidelines like wearing a mask even though you yourself are not really at risk of getting super sick.
    I get being tired of the pandemic, but it is very important to keep following your local guidelines.
    Lastly, about Joe Rogan. It's easy to find shit takes on him where people criticize him for almost nothing, but just because those takes exist doesn't mean there arn't serious problems with his podcast. The main one which you didnt bring up at all here is that he lets people come on his podcast and just straight up say factually incorrect things about covid. If he let them express their opinions but called them out whenever they say something blatantly false that would be one thing, but there are lots of times where he just doesnt do that. This means that he is not only spreading misinformed opinions, he is also spreading blatantly untrue things. And the spread of these false facts is a lot more harmful that the spread of just some dumb opinion.
    Also, while he doesn't have as many horrible takes like the media likes to say he does, he does have some stupid takes like when he said and continues to believe and say that he doesnt think young people with no immune system problems need to be vaccinated. I get that you don't want to censure someone for just having a dumb opinion, but it is worth noting that he does believe some stupid stuff and continues to believe it even when confronted about it by scientists and the general scientific community.

    • @234fddesa
      @234fddesa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We also have to consider the people that can't get vaccinated for one reason or another, like people with really terrible immune systems. I'd also criticize the "just let the unvaccinated die because they're stupid" mentality for it's callousness, on top of it's failure to consider hospital stressing, as you've pointed out.
      My fear is that this truly has become endemic, not because of the virus' spreading itself, which remains relatively unchanged, but the fact that media cycles have moved on, and americans are tired of being terribly inconvenienced with wearing a normal facial covering for about a year, on top of not being able to go to concerts, oh, how horrifying. American's distaste for mild civic responsibility when accompanied by their rhetoric about hyperindividual personal responsibility and bootstraps never seeks to confound and amuse. This, combined with price gouging and in some cases a blatant refusal to sell vaccines to countries with worse off economies or lower standards of living that both serve as repopulating grounds for these viruses and will suffer the ill effects of, even if a truly mild disease, much more than "first world countries".
      I think my main criticism of Joe Rogan is that the worst part of his podcast is him. He has on interesting people all the time but he's such an unapologetic meathead and just easily consumes anyone's opinion with little to no pushback unless they're directly contradicting his barely formed libertarian worldview, and even then, it's basically five minutes of conversation. He occasionally eggs a guest on with a question or two, but then it's back to bodybuilding gorillas and DMT and jiu jitsu being a high stakes chess game. Even as a chameleon he's a failure of a host. His success is more due to his being in the right place at the right time rather than any particular skill at interviews beyond the normal questions that someone might have. He has these fundamental problems, and there's little chance to change them, because they all stem from who he is as a person, rather than his skill in his craft. I think there's almost anyone else who given the same position would probably be a better host. Kevin james, even.

      >but a lot of the takes are very very wrong.
      You couldn't be more wrong on a number of topics mate. Your comment looks like it was taken straight out of April of 2020.
      The vaccine will not end this pandemic. It does not reduce transmission, and it barely reduces severe outcomes/deaths across all age groups. Getting more people vaccinated will accomplish nothing.
      The majority of the 35% are people who are not at risk anyway (healthy young people), or who have already had COVID.
      Yes, natural immunity is significantly stronger than the vaccine will ever be, several studies have shown that already.
      Hospitals being overrun is a completely irrelevant concern. Hospitals are overrun regularly, they are designed to be overrun and operate all full capacity - it doesn't justify putting life on pause to keep them empty.
      Your ignorance is why people continue to suffer under these restrictions, and it is not fair on them.

    Tolerance is paradoxical in that it can't tolerate the intolerant. The same applies to free speech, which translates as: canvassing alternative treatments is vastly different from spreading false information, and social media networks are (actively) furthering such trends.

    • @bobbirdsong6825
      @bobbirdsong6825 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think it's more complex than that, in that intolerance is developed from intolerance, but a truly "tolerant" perspective is intolerant to nothing. we just like the idea of being tolerant, but when we encounter those with differing or opposing opinions, we make exceptions and explanations as to why it's ok. nothing wrong with that, we should just call it what it is instead of pretending we can despise the ignorant without being ignorant ourselves.
      and to clarify, there is a definite difference between the ideologically intolerant and the violently intolerant. those who would incite or act in violence are simply a public safety hazard, and should be dealt with as such

    Let's have some clarity, Rogan never *used* that word. Not in any instance in that "supercut" was Rogan ever making reference to anything BUT that word - no person, living or dead, nor any group, race, ethnicity or identity. The supercut was an out of context hit piece. Ironic that the authors of the hit piece use their free speech in an effort to censor the free speech of others.

    • @jackerylel

  • @KanyeT1306
    @KanyeT1306 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I shared all my opinions on the topic in the previous podcast, but I will add this.
    Just think how incorrect the mainstream narrative has been so far. They said the vaccine would stop transmission, turns out that was wrong. They said COVID couldn't have come from a lab, turns out they were wrong. They said the vaccine was safe and effective, turns out that was wrong (although there is some benefit if you are at risk, not nearly as effective as they were suggesting). They said you can spread it while asymptomatic, turns out that was wrong. They said that surface transmission was a thing, turns out that was wrong. They said masks would work (against decades of established medical research on the topic), turns out that was wrong. They said we should lockdown, against all established medical advice, and from that latest John Hopkin's study it turns out it did absolutely nothing, yet caused so much collateral damage that we will be feeling for decades to come.
    That's not even getting into all the times they've been wrong throughout history. Remember when doctors advocated for smoking, saying it was healthy for you? Are eggs good or bad for your cholesterol? They've been flip-flopping on that one for decades. Just look at how much of a mess they made out of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 80s.
    Then consider the times the government/mainstream narrative has specifically hurt people. MK Ultra, the Tuskegee Syphilis study, etc.
    At this point, you have to be insane to suggest that we shouldn't be allowed to discuss these topics on social media. Look at how much mis- or disinformation the government and public health officials have put out over the past two years. How many lives could have been saved if people were allowed to poke holes in the mainstream narrative sooner rather than later? How many people have died because they chose to omit crucial and obvious information, like "obesity is a severe comorbidity, we recommend losing weight"? How many people died by taking government advice and weakening their immune systems, like staying indoors all day?
    After all of this, if you are still on board with censoring misinformation, at least start with the government and then we'll talk.

    Sam's on the brink of waking up, however, he's argument that you can't criticise vaccine mandates, can't ask questions about vaccine efficacy, and at the same time treat yourself with what used to be widely available (even though a bit expensive) medicine, is void. Besides, Rogan _did_ say that he's for vaccinating vulnerable people but against forced mandates and mask regimes - especially for children. This shouldn't even be up for debate.
    People are not cattle, they must have freedom of choice - everywhere, not only the US. All of this is especially critical when we have new studies and reports coming in questioning the 3-4 week delay between the first two shots that can lead to myocarditis and questioning the regulatory practices of the FDA and Pfizer. I really want to live in a world where your government is your friend who cares about you, but unfortunately that is just a fantasy.
    Much love and respect from Ukraine.
