Lacquer can often be heated up a bit and removed with razor blades. Well , that’s how we did it 40 years ago. Don’t worry the current paint strippers aren’t powerful enough to do much.

I can't agree with you more about the paint stripper, I learned a long time ago it will come back and bite you in the butt later. No matter how much you think you rinsed and neutralized it it will creep back up out of a crack and raise the paint somewhere down the road!👍

Get some gray Scotch-Brite and scuff it up

Scuff up the paint color and then clear coat it. Just want to make sure I understand it. Right. Because all the videos I see only talk about scuffing clear coats and waxing to shine. Sorry, my deepest apologies. This is my first time rattle can a Vehicle.

You just need the light scratches of gray scotchbrite for the clear to stick. Using too rough a scuffing method might mess up your color

How does a novice distinguish between lacquer and enamel? Clearcoat? And, with clearcoat, that's enamel?

Lacquer gums up your sandpaper, a lot easier, and faster than enamel or basecoat clearcoat
