Anna is Ellie's stepsister, in the movie, 2022 version of Anna said "Mimi wants to adpot me, and daddy wants to adopt you". Ellie's response to this is "you don't want to see you real mother in Florida?" Daniel is Anna's biological father, but she was not birthed by Cee/Celeste. The punchline to Ellie constantly saying that she isn't related to anyone comes full circle at the end when she tells Daniel "we are family." Anna is her grandmother, which makes Daniel, Ellie's great-grandfather.
Guys, if U’d like to see a similar premise fleshed out expertly with great casting, and visuals, I Highly recommend the German series DARK, on Netflix. An underrated series in the US imho
This sounds too confusing. I like twists and mysteries, but up to a point. If it's gets too twisty and confusing I check out. I do like Dylan O' Brien though!
I second Everything u explained. It was beyond super confusing and complicated. I went into this blindfolded totally!! Let’s just say I wasn’t impressed with this film. TY for breaking it down. Well, I guess I can’t get those two hours back of my life. 🤦🏽♀️
You guys were able to get this good summation out of this razzi worthy screenplay? The confusion continues. So the plot is the chicken and egg metaphor? That’s the best we have right?
I agree with the comments mentioning the show Dark, it does this concept so much better! And actually I had this whole movie hemmed up as soon as they started mentioning the wolves. I wish I could have seen this movie first, then Dark. It would have been so much more enjoyable. But the performances were excellent so I did enjoy it!
Im confused on how Paris travelled from 2003 to 1952 and saved his mom that travelled to 1952 from 2022… how could Paris exist to save his mom if he would’ve never existed unless he saved her?
It's like the movie Predestination or the question of how the protagonists met in The Time Traveler's Wife. It's a paradox because you can't establish what causes what, so it's like a loop. And if you look at the necklace, whose origin we can't establish in the same way, it resembles a yin/yang, which symbolizes a continuous and infinite loop.
I'm still confused about this plot even though you rigorously explained it, so I'll have to watch the movie. Maybe i need more coffee 😆 thank you guys!
In the immortal words of Ripley “this little girl made it without weapons or training”. I think the lesson is in the strength and character of the 8 year old girl thrown in the past and truly had no family but made a life for herself. Snap out of it Ellie.
This film was just way too convoluted. I still don't understand who is Anna's father. And there was other stuff I just couldn't work out. It might just be me. But I'm usually good working out stuff in films. But this one had me scratching my head. But great review as always. You guys are quickly becoming my favourite review channel.
Soooo, _Dark_ lite. 🤭 I can’t take credit for that, though. I heard a reviewer giving the series _Bodies_ that description. 😂 Loved _Dark_ and _Bodies,_ by the way. ☺️
@@davidmckesey7119 yea, but she dated a guy that had hella mommy issues. He didn’t mention in that time what his moms name was? Or show any family photos of her?
A Film title that *actually* means what its story wishes to convey - Nick making that clear with *Topside* - good opening introduction for this one with the *location* being supernatural!
I liked this movie, it was a real brain twister ..Ellie's father was Paris who was the son of her younger half sister Anna.. and there's Celeste, Ellie and Anna's mother who was in a relationship with Anna's son Paris, Ellie's dad ..that's crazy
That was my question. Was she having the nose bleeds because she was going through the portals trying to get back to her own timeline, or did she just wake up in the fifties and decide to just stay there. I thought if the movie was about Pearis following his moms trail into learning about the portals it would have been a better movie. Like if she just was stuck there but was trying to figure it all out and get back to her own time but went missing or got lost or something and so he went through her steps and figured out the same thing but ultimately couldn’t do anything because it would mess up the timeline and he wouldn’t exist. It was a premis with a lot of potential but I feel like they chose the most boring thing to happen in a time travel movie. I mean there wasn’t ever even a confrontation scene between Pearis and Ellie or Celeste.
Thanks for the replies (and pardon my loose/lose typo) - time travel is my preferred sci fi genre and I rushed to this review after watching the movie because the age of eight growing up with certain technology and social progression going back to the 50s just got to me…
I ran to this after watching it. I was so confused that the guy was Anna’s son but also Ellie’s dad at the same time. But Anna and Ellie are half siblings so what ? But The first scene when he was in a car in the water, the woman looks like an older Ellie or possibly Ellie’s mom.
Ok I rewinded it, the woman does look like an older Anna. Idk why I thought she looked like an older Ellie. It was hard to tell as the scene of the her drowning was brief. I can’t imagine how weird for Anna to be be born in the 2010s then adopted in 1952 she must of been so confused and painted crazy wondering where her mom, dad and sister were but I guess they would’ve just blamed the injury.
I loved this film in the first time, I didn't find it confusing at all, and I haven't even seen "Dark" which, from what people say, is more complex. Dylan and Eliza are incredible, and the film becomes much better when rewatched.
i haven’t finished the show yet myself but based on what i’ve seen so far and this review, it seems like the creators of this film are also a fan of a german show netflix produced called “DARK”. the time travel seems to be done a lot better there though so i’ll stick to that. loved the review as usual though guys! 💕
The Christopher Reeve movie went back and forth from the past to present time too. If I didn't already know his story, it would have been very confusing.
I liked this movie but my biggest plot issue is that once Paris is in the future (to him) he makes this big panic about "getting back" which ultimately leads to his death but it's like...why? Everyone you know and love is right there. All you'd have to do is say who you are. Yes you missed time but wouldn't you just want to find your girlfriend in the present day? Idk.
Then he would be almost 20 years older and would have missed all that time with his family. Unfortunately he dies trying to get back and without that, the whole premise of the movie is not possible. If he made it back , he would have been there to father Ellie and Celest never would have met Daniel or Anna.
Like I said in the live stream " the two of you are more often than not more entertaining than the movie itself" Hard Pass for me . Off to watch Muriel's Wedding. Love Toni Collette.🤗😏 Love you Gentlemen as well.👍💯👍💯👍💯👍😎🌈

This sounds a little like that Netflix show "Dark" from Germany.
It sounds a LOT like Dark--I kept waiting for them to bring it up.
It sounds exactly like that show!!!! Wow.
It definitely had some dark vibes but it was really enjoyable
It's exactly what I thought. And interesting that Joseph commented this movie would've worked better as a series.
@@PuertoGeekan I was actually really happy. It wasn't a series.... I don't think this would have dragged out that well as a series
Giving that character long red hair was such a mistake because I instantly guessed they were the same person.

I was thinking the same thing! I’m still watching season 2 of Dark on Netflix.
Aaaah DARK.... Perfect show.

@@tynnettam9636 I never wanted it to end! ✨✨✨
Did anyone pay attention to the alligator the kids found with the severed leg and the way the rope was suddenly cut off while Ellie was holding it?
Yes the crocodile was cut up in 2 cause he was between 2 dimensions/Time portal..
This sounds too confusing. I like twists and mysteries, but up to a point. If it's gets too twisty and confusing I check out. I do like Dylan O' Brien though!
Before you even said the lake had time travel I was thinking “this is gonna be some DARK ripoff”
And Dark take inspiration from Predestination
I watched this last night and tried recapping it to my daughter who left halfway through. It was a task.

Now, I wish joker 2 was a time traveling movie
Anything would've been better than the movie Phillips and Phoenix made.
The plot was hella confusing. It is promoted as a horror/mystery too but it wasn't really scary. This one was a swing and a miss for me.
Thank you but so many are blown away in reviews I've been reading 😅😅😅 it completely missed me and it definitely shouldn't be under horror!

Time travel mess express, Joseph? 😂
I had to restart the movie because i was getting blitzed towards the end. I noticed alot more details and i was able to enjoy the movie more.
The Kindred adaptation was unwatchable. All of Octavia Butler's book read well, so I hope for better video based on her work.
I could not finish the first episode and I’m a huge fan of all of her books.
I enjoyed it

I think it's kinda like simultaneous timelines because remember Anna excited in 2022 but also went on 2 grow up in 1952 and went on to have Paris
You can watch Predestination or Dark series, it has the same premise

This movie confused me so much. Who is Anna’s father? How can Paris exist when Celeste didn’t have Anna until after he died?
Anna's father is Daniel. Which means Celeste is not Anna's mother.
Sounds like “Outer Range,” a series on Amazon Prime.
Yep, trade the lake for a big hole and a swamp for a ranch.

Wouldn't she have noticed in 2022 that her daughter looked like the girl Paris ran off with?
explains the resentment? but also it was such a quick interaction and asking a lot of memory.
@user-cg9fu8ty7v that was 20 years ago however she did mention she ran into a girl in the supermarket.

This movie stole the twist from Dark on Netflix and the person who disappeared in that show was also 8 years old lol
