  • Leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy Giorgia Meloni is on track, according to some polls, to become Italy's first female Prime Minister from a party with a history of fascism.
    Please subscribe HERE bit.ly/1rbfUog
    With the fall of Mario Draghi's government and an election scheduled in September are Meloni and the Brothers of Italy the likely new government? And what would they do if they take power?
    As the far right Brothers of Italy have climbed the polls, so too have Italy's borrowing costs after the country took a huge EU Covid loan, stoking fears of a renewal of the Eurozone debt crisis.
    Newsnight's Policy Editor Lewis Goodall speaks to Brothers of Italy Mayor Pierluigi Biondi and Democratic Party Vice-President Debora Serracchiani about what Italians and Europe can expect if she becomes PM.

      Doesn't matter if a woman is elected or not. What's _most_ important (and Giorgia Meloni would probably say the same) is that she's a strong leader regardless of her gender who is following the path of other strong leaders like Victor Orban of, Hungary, or places like Poland etc to lead the way in fighting for the people, saving Europe, and breaking out of the EU vice grip of political correctness, wokism and flooding the countries with illegal immigration which contributes to violent crime and puts a strain on the economies and social welfare systems, and instead going back to common sense thinking in governments and restoring strength and independence to the European nations and their people. Whether it be men or women or both, is irrelevant.

Our consitution talks about natural society, not natural family. Italy has a foreign population od 8.7%, less than the most part of Western European country. Amongst those only 64.8% are non-EU citizens therefore 5.2% of Italian population doesn't own a EU Passport. Considering Italian aging population there's no way to maintain the current amount of inhabitants in the country without immigration.
      Europe is based on Enlightenment therefore Christianity and Islam need to be both perceived as alien to the fundamental values of Europe.
      How ade LGBTQ+ rights against European values 🤔?
      Meloni is a low educated lady with little understanding of country administration and, together with Salvini and the immortal Berlusconi, is making inconsistent promises exploiting the ignorance of voters. The biggest contradiction is how we are so incredibly worried about her becoming PM, whilst being entirely conscious of the fact that Italian Governments last an average of a little more than a year, and in that time, no one can actually do so much damage, neither to politics nor to culture. It's this contradictory mix of extreme preoccupation and absolute cynicism that you'll hear most often on the streets of Italy. Make no mistake, those who actually support her are not the majority, they're a plurality.

    • @matteoalocci3968
      @matteoalocci3968 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      You're probably right. However, the preoccupation is due to some details that can be considered. This will be the first election with the new reduced number of seats in Parliament and the second election with the new electoral law but this time the 5 Star Movement has 20 percentage points less.
      - In 2018 the disproportion of the single-member districts favoured the right parties in the North and the 5 Star Movement in the South, this time this party is not strong enough to counter the right parties
      - The Centre-Right Coalition is more solid than the left and centre cluster parties. The far-right parties represents the majority of the coalition while the more moderate Forza Italia is 20% of the coalition. There is also a high possibility that the Right Coalition will rule without risky cross-Parliament alliances.
      - By current polls, the Centre-Right Coalition will take 250 out of 400 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 125 out of 200 seats in the Senate. The two-thirds qualified majority numbers are respectively 266 and 133. Meloni's party is rising by the day while the Democratic Party is losing support at the same rate.
      - While it's true that short-life Governments is typical in Italy, do not underestimate the italian skill of f***ing things up in record time.
      In conclusion, the preoccupation is not far-fetched. I know that polls are highly misleading and that 35% of voters is undecided and can turn the tables (as a famous italian singer says "In the elections the undecided are decisive") but is exactly this preoccupation that can counter the far-right drift. Overall, if the Centre-Right should win with a strong majority I don't think the european membership or the support to Ukraine will be at risk and the propositions in the economic sphere are open to discussion. The main concerns revolve around the handling of the migration crisis and the LGBT rights, let's not forget that Italy still doesn't have a law against omophobia. Let's hope that as you say this will come out as usual and that these concerns turn out to be invalid. But, rest assured, you don't need 5 years of ruling to make damage.

      Every other country in the EU has benefited from the single currency and access to the single market. In the 1990s we failed in privatizing our economy and becoming competitive. That was a failure of Italian economic policies, not a failure of the eurozone.
      The sooner we realize this instead of blaming others for our own failures, the sooner we may start implementing policies that actually bring a change.

      @@leonardofilippini I generally do agree with you. I don’t think every country has benefited from a single currency besides Italy though. I think some others in Southern Europe didn’t benefit either. But I 100% agree with you that we did not change our economic approach/policies since the early 2000s, which is why we are in this situation. However, my argument would have been (at the time) if we aren’t going to change, then let’s not let anyone to force ourselves to change either. We have not been able to stay competitive partly because we don’t have the ability to devalue our currency anymore (China and US still does this today). That was the model of our economy and we couldn’t change our policies to adapt for vast reasons.

    Italy is an extremely aging country, and its shooing it's youngest and brightest people away: voters are elderly, so elderly people became the basic constituency for all the parties. There's no real agenda for who creates wealth, on both leftist and and rightist sides, and this will result in a country quickly imploding on itself. It's important that the other members of the European Union realize how serious this situation is, and will eject the country out from their economic agreements.

And replacement migration will only result in a further decline of the national iq and a populance that is not going to be able to generate the geniuses that made Italy great in the first place.

    • @SimoneCarp
      @SimoneCarp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattiasbinotto5358 let me unpack it for you: 1) you have no clue about how demographics works, and political steering of births is just ridiculous (thanks Mao for the excellent demonstration) You'll spend billions, make people angry and you'll get nothing 2) you are a racist and a masochist. Italians will need a LOT of immigrants to care about their elderly people for a cheap price.
      Actually, I do think that on average Italian population's IQ is ~0.2-0.4 standard deviations below the world average, based on the outcome of Pisa and % of people with a degree... And honestly, I can make a comparison with far smarter people in the same socioeconomic status. Education facilities abroad (even in far poorer countries) are better and more valued. Italians deserve a bad outcome, the default of INPS and on the state, without burdening other countries. That's a cure I would consider just. But, for any nation facing an increase on the non-active population (people over-65 >20%) the only solution is an age-weighted voting. The more people in an age bracket, the less the votes count on local and national elections, and vice versa. That would be the only way I can see to provide incentives to review political agendas throughout the political spectrum.

    "With the fall of Mario Draghi's government and an election scheduled in September are Meloni and the Brothers of Italy the likely new government? And what would they do if they take power?" A good aim for a news report on the Italian election (voting is not until 26 September), but this film is poor. One would expect a review of the opinion polls and how the Italian Parlimant might look after the election, and then a set of graphics taking us through Fratelli d'Italia's manifesto policies on the economy, the EU & Euro, the energy price crisis, immigration, the anarchy of Libya to the south, NATO, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine and military aid to Ukraine. These policies are all published by FdI and the BBC only needs someone to translate them and summarise them on a graphic. They are what viewers of BBC news programmes in the UK would expect from Newsnight. Do we get this? No.

      Then you’ve got 38.8% who don’t declare their vote.

      There is one thing that is not very clear to me yet: How will she replace the aging population without immigration? By increasing the age of retirement? By cutting access to healthcare to the elderly so that they don't live for too long? By forcing people to have more kids against their will or without taking into consideration their economic unstability? UNLESS her immigration policy is selective to muslims and other violent groups.

Or do we just keep growing until we are what, 10 billion, 13 billion, 55 billion, 100 million billion? When? We are not primitive anymore. We should be having small populations with a high standard of living. Second, our own birth rates would increase if our young people didn't have to compete for housing and could settle down and have kids. Second, if having millions of brown and black kids is the key to growth how come their own countries are a constant mess.

Italy now needs active policies for job hiring and a support of the turnover, about migrants we should agree with UE for a redistribution not boats restrictions or port closing.
