Why is Italy swinging to the far right? - BBC News

  • Italy’s far right leader, Matteo Salvini, is hoping to cause a political shock by winning Sunday’s regional election in Emilia Romagna, a stronghold of the left since the Second World War. That could topple the government and sweep him to national power. So what is driving support for his populist far right League party?

@@jaronmeshileichenbaum9934 stabbings and gang culture completely different from their own native gang culture is not to be afraid of? Illegal migrants claiming asylum because right now anyone who can make it to Europe gets a free pass at the moment, and their respective governments look after them and forget about the poor people who are natives and have been struggling they whole life?. It's the same everywhere.. all over Europe, so many foreigners(illegal migrants claiming asylum) that don't want to be a part of where they are living, no interest in being a part of said countries culture or way of thinking/life, and anyone who questions it, or says something is labeled a racist. Natives can't say or do anything, so no wonder people are "afraid" or don't like how they see the country they have spent their whole lives turning in to.
saying people "don't know what they want, they're just confused"... Don't be so insulting. You aren't better than anyone else, so who are you to say you know better than them. But then again I've come across plenty of people like you who say this exact thing, here in the UK.

The terms “right wing” and “left wing” originated with the French National Assembly of 1789; Catholic monarchists sat on the right, secular republican liberals sat on the left. Notice how neither of these factions are defined by a specific view on the size of government but by their relationship to the status quo.

I am italian and i live in Italy. I study in the university of Padua. In that city i can confirm that there are a lot of foreigners who are not well integrated that deal drugs, rob people and do sketchy activities and they tend to organize in some areas of the city and when night falls its like they control those areas; at night it’s not advisable for safety reasons to walk in those areas of the city. Padua is a city that i know well but i’ve seen and heard about many other Italian cities where they have the same problem.
Now don’t get me wrong not all foreigners are like that but a really high percentage of immigrants who came here without having a job and a place to stay become drug dealers or in general commit crimes. I understand that desperate situations create desperate men but if foreigners never came here in the first place without having first the security of a job and a place to live this anti-foreigners sentiment wouldn’t be for sure so widespread here in Italy

The “why” is simple! Because the moderates/centrists are out of touch with the needs and views of the public on the issues that matter such as the economy, immigration policy, taxes, and regulations. When a government is perceived to do more for foreign nationals than for its own citizens using tax money from its own citizens (weather or not that’s actually the case is irrelevant as it is a matter of perception), citizens are willing to take on extra political risks and vote someone from the far right who seems more receptive to their needs, views, and concerns.
Edit: also, the term far right is not as exclusive as what it used to be. Now it encompasses everything right of center that the mainstream disagrees with at present times even though such “far right” ideas like having borders and national sovereignty were considered nominal a decade ago.

Most of the immigrants are honest workers but many of them are living in Italy in a total illegal way or without respecting our lifestyle...on the youtube there are lots of footages about immigrants who refuse to pay tickets on the public transportation, managing drugs business at the railway stations or rioting on the streets and harrassing pedestrians. Italy is being flooded from North Africa. The welfare systems of the European states which were implemented post WW2 to look after their own people are being abused pushing them further in to debt, creating massive social divisions. Erasing national identities, re-writing national histories. Erasing cultural traditions. If the European states were serious about ageing populations they should create conditions in which people are able to give birth to more children. Tax incentives, further promote family unity. Instead the left for decades have pushed the agenda that for economic purposes we must not only allow but embrace large scale immigration. A historic mistake.

Issue is, due to poor political choices spanning 30-40 years, Italy is having a tough situation, a steep unemployment rate and a disastrous 18-35 unemployment rate.. considering that the latter is the range for being a parent, goes without saying that there's no childbirth..
My sis works (2/3 of national median wage).and her husband works too (about median national wage) and they just had their first a few days ago, when they are both in their 35th..
I'm in my 36th and while I earn much more than the median, I cannot sensibly fathom fathering a child without that jeopardizing my current budgeting plan or having to grow a child "fatherless" as for all my glorious income, I leave home at 8 and come back not before 20:30 Monday to Friday..
You want children from young Italian couples? First fix Italy job market and social assistance for parents , then you might see more children..

I live in Italy and married to a natural born Italian citizen. Let me explain the truth as I mingle and speak with foreigners here. In this country they say is a jackpot. No country pays so much for a kid after a kid and thus 4 kids to get kids fund for 3 years and so on for few years which Italian kids do not get that much. Next foreigners are more emigrants who like any Italian can buy a home with even permanent residence the same as an Italian with no extra charges or to show any funds in bank before purchasing a home. Thirdly the banks lend more than a house price to non Italians so foreigners claim only in Italy you can buy a home with no single cent in your pocket but enough to show you have a job that pays off the bank for next 25 to 30 years or more. Next, if you say anything against foreigners you be a racist but they can stay among their own community and continue living isolated without inter-grating as they form their own syndicate for job searching to lawyers. Next, foreigners come through Italy then may or may not go to France or Germany however Italy is the one who shares their funds and their services and man power to take care more of the emigrants who are coming in 1000s by boat. These are no more men or women who are suffering but running away and due to EU and UN humanitarian policy you have to take care of them so does Italy I would say as used as an entry port for those from Libya, Tunisia, Algeria etc etc. Worse of all go see apartments which in 20 years have become noisy, smelly and littered due to somehow foreigners who do not care for rules. I for now as foreigner follow the rules but am tired of taking care of the dustbins that are littered and thrown things with no consideration. Plus living with noise through the stairways that have no lift. Lastly, foreigners are setting up businesses for their own race and religion and asking non halal and permitted such food in Italian schools, so what's wrong if Meloni fights for the right of her country of which her forefathers fought for not the forefathers of the foreigners did Therefore I support Meloni 1001%.

Today in different parts of the world it is re-taking sides over political extremism and moving away from the center of political ideology, this generates greater confrontation between the supporters on each side. In addition, generally the party with extremist ideologies, whether left or right, that succeeds the political party with contrary ideology may seek to counter the actions of that previous government; the dangerous thing about this situation is to get fragmented, or even worse, broken, the project of nation that has been built through history, which can be modified by each government but not completely eliminated. The taking of power of the right wing in Italy has had a great impact on all the aspects of society, has had successes and misadventures that the opposition has not missed. However, the sum of many factors, some already mentioned, has caused political instability which generates mistrust and economic problems that causes other conflicts. However, the government's priority, left or right, must be national well-being, including stability, security, a good quality of life, etc.
