      I'm a toyota believer, but never buy a used Toyota based on a "buy". New they are great new, but over priced used and as good as they are used they will always be the least attractive vehicle made. When they came out in the 60's and 70's replacement parts were virtually free from the dealer. Now they are among the most expensive to own as they age, if you are a person who repairs your own vehicle.

    I bought a 2008 Colorado crew cab with the inline five cylinder 6 years ago. All I've ever done to it is replace a fuel pump and replace a water pump. Always starts, never overheats, and that 3.7 liter engine has some grunt to go with the reliability. I once left it running(not on purpose) for 7-8 hours, idled super smooth in a crowded tractor show parking lot all day! Love my "Champ"!!

    As a 5.4 triton owner.... the problems with the engine are waaaaaaaaay over exaggerated. I have put 80k miles on it since I've had it, and not one time has it left me stranded. Only problems I've had was a vacuum leak and changed my spark plugs once. Tows a boat pretty nice too.

    My first truck was a 2002 tundra that we bought for 6,000 with only a little over 100,000 miles, honestly the best truck I’ve owned, great power, was surprisingly fast for an early 2000s truck and super reliable only problem was trying to find hands small enough to work on the engine yourself for things like pulleys belts and just simple things😂

  • @MrKEMills
    @MrKEMills 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    If you want to buy a Ford F-150, look at the 97-03 models. Sure, they don’t look that good, but you can get them for a lot cheaper, and they are way more reliable than the 04-08 ones. I have a 99 with the 4.6 2v, the same engine that the Panther platform cars have. No issues at all except for a bit less power.

    • @bobvance-
      @bobvance- ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean they are "way more reliable"? They are basically the same truck. Besides, the 97-98 DOES have the spark plug issue (which isn't THAT bad).

    I actually bought a 2000 Tundra with the 4.7l, 4wd. She ran like a champ despite being wrecked by the previous owner. They tried to fix the front end but it wasn't done well and the poor thing met it's demise a little over a year ago, totalled. They truly are great trucks for a first gen vehicle. The 4.7s tow quite a bit, almost comparable to the 5.7, they'll go just about anywhere, get decent gas mileage for a v8, and extremely reliable.

    An option.. which I went for.. was to buy an older gen13 truck like a 2015 with high miles and pimp it out, with a new suspension and wheels...then I bought other parts as I could afford and now... I rebuilt the heads and put on on a supercharger and I have what’s basically a brand new 2015 f150 5.0. And I did with cash.. I just didn’t need it all at once... you could easily do same with an older generation...

  • @Laynie_247
    @Laynie_247 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    A little more about the 11th generation F-150..... the 5.4 3 valve Triton engine that came with most of these trucks have cam phaser issues which occur by not changing oil enough. Bad spark plug issues where the spark plug head breaks off into the engine. Power window regulators go out every once in awhile, and the third brake light leaks sometimes which causes water to get in the cab corners and it will Rust Out. and did I mention oil pumps could go out around 200k miles. My dad had one of these trucks and it had rear end problems, such as if you turn in reverse it will make a loud clunking noise. Transmissions are normally great on them.... but my dad's truck it always started always drove forward always backed up, but then the day he sold it when they guy was looking at it he went to start it up and it didn't start😂 because of a bad battery.

    • @bobvance-
      @bobvance- ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spark plug issue was fixed in 1999. The 5.4 liter is a great fucking motor. My parents have one that has almost 300k miles and drives great.

    Really the best Ford truck is the 1995 f150 4.9l with the 5 speed. these straight 6 truck will see between the 300k to 500k miles before any real issue happen and they have timing gears instead of belts or chains the have a butt load of low end torque. The 300 straight 6 has been around since 1964 till 1996 in these trucks. Still the engine is used commercially. there cheap to fix and easy to fix im talking old school easy. It's a full cast iron engine. They also have a bio fuel version. And double gas tanks. The list here I could go on forever why it's the best truck for the money I've seen these trucks go in working order between $500 to $2000. I own one with just over 300k it's starts Everytime and gets any job done even pulls stumps this is the engine that help build American and still is.

    I owned an '06 GMC Canyon, from '06 to '21, with more than 300k miles. I loved it until I drove into a cow on the highway. It started off with 25mpg when I bought it but had 19mpg when I said goodbye. I was a self-employed welder so I had to put my small welder in the bed when my welding truck was in the shop. I have a 2009 Kia Borrego EX V8, but I am looking at putting $10k-15k MINIMUM into it to make a run smoothly. I at least need to drop a new engine, fix my transmission, shocks and struts, AC intake, and possibly reseal my exhaust. So, I am looking for a relatively cheap fill-in option until I can work on this "project car" more, lol. Thanks again for your insight and help, I am subscribing! ❤

    You really need to do more research into your trucks!
    5.4 and the 4.6 3 valve were a big problem! You can pick them up so cheap because people don't keep the maintenance up, and that's because of the price for repairs once the plug snaps off in the cylinder heads!
    Now, on GM, the only issues we really had with the 5.3 was with the Cam's getting hammered out by the lifter's, and I want to say that was on the 3rd or 4th gen 5.3.
    The GM 6.0 was a pretty good engine, especially if you wanted to build one up!
    Now, the 4.6 ( if I remember that engine size correctly) wasn't a bad problem at all! They were pretty good on fuel economy, and had okay towing abilities, but was great for every day use..
    Now to Toyota, I wouldn't trust it at all! This is my opinion, and that's because they did have a lot of mechanical issues, most notably was with the throttle body getting stuck open, and the transmission wasn't that great! Same thing with the Nissan Titan as well, weak transmission!
    Yes, you need to do more research on your vehicle's before launching a video telling people they should buy something.

Windows rolled up and down on their own when you turned on the key, power locks only locked on one side or the other, the theft deterrent system sometimes kept him from starting it, the list goes on. I sold mine and bought a 2004 Ram 1500 Hemi, had 193k on it when I got it, and 312k when I sold it. Never had any problems out of it other than the gas gauge sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t. That Colorado i5 is waiting to steal big money out of your pocket for the timing chain repair. Those I5s are infamous for that. You have to pull the front axles and oil pan to get to one bolt that holds the cover on to get to that chain, and then you also have to pull the transmission to get at a balancing chain at the back of the engine. I believe Deboss Garage has a video repairing theirs.

    You get the end of the line for 5k in trucks. New truck cost 30k+. 5 years of depreciation cuts the price in half. You'll get more use out of 1 truck for 15k then 3 cheap trucks for 5k.
